UPDATE: Gudda Gudda breaks down what happened last week in Minnesota to DJ Ill Will's camera, with his Young Money necklace in tact.
Continuing a troubling trend of young rappers getting their chains stolen, Young Money emcee Gudda Gudda is the latest reported victim, joining the ranks of Yung Berg.
According to webeengone.com, Young Money hosted a show at Club Olmeca in Burnsville, Minnesota.
The show was headlined by Gudda Gudda and Mack Maine. During the show, Gudda was wearing a yellow gold dog tag with the Young Money emblem, encrusted with black and red diamonds. During the performance of their hit song "Bedrock," a source indicated that a member of Cambodian blood gang "G.M.F." snatched the chain and jumped off stage.
Apparently, Gudda jumped into the crowd and struck the thief three or four times before security intervened.

HipHopDX Presents the final in our three-part series, where Nas first visits the historic Trenchtown, in a day that calls the spirit of Bob Marley and culminates the Distant Relatives' journey.
A 3-Part Exclusive Video Series
Introduction
Part I
Part II
Welcome to Jamrock was just starting to blow in JA. I ended up flying to Jamaica with Eric Coleman to do the album cover of Jamrock from Brasil. Ras Kassa was our producer on the ground for that shoot. He is a wealth of knowledge on locations and the people and culture. So when I got the call to go down to JA again this November to shoot behind the scenes for the "Land of Promise" video that Kassa was directing I leapt at the chance.
I had been in some of the legendary sessions that became the Distant Relatives album at the Henson Studios in L.A. – even managed to get my jacket taken by Oliver Stone in the process (but that’s another story). The album itself is in so many ways historic and to be able to watch the music unfold was a true pleasure.
In the summer I was lucky enough to be invited on the road to document the UK and Ireland part of the European tour. Again it was an amazing experience. Damian’s birthday party thrown in London by Nas has to be one of the all time craziest fun times of my life, not to speak of the after-hours session in Dublin in a Kenyan bar.

Detroit police officers' suit against "Up In Smoke" Tour promoters will be heard before Michigan's highest court
The Up In Smoke Tour was one of the biggest events in Hip Hop during the year 2000, leaving many fans with very fond memories of performances by the all-star lineup which included Dr. Dre, Eminem, Snoop Dogg, and Ice Cube. But for a few Detroit police officers the tour's stop in their city, at Joe Louis Arena, was memorable for another reason.
On that night 3 officers, Gary Brown, Paula Bridges, and Greg Bowens, were filmed informing promoters that a video containing nudity and graphic violence which was intended to be played behind performers was not allowed to be shown. Brown claims that the promoters told the police there conversation would be private. But upon viewing a DVD chronicling the show, the presciently titled Detroit Controversy, the officer was surprised at what he saw - video of his conversation with promoters. This, Brown contends, was a violation of his privacy and a crime and he also did not appreciate the content of the DVD. He is quoted as saying, "They recorded the footage of the meeting and used it on this gangster rap DVD. It's vile and it's got everything that you would not want your child to see on it." So Brown, Bridges, and Bowens filed suit and now the case has risen all the way to the Michigan Supreme Court.

The Chef says he and Nas have gotten past their misunderstandings, and have collaborated on a track that's "vintage Rae and Nas."
This past weekend, the tracklisting for Raekwon's Shaolin vs. Wu-Tang was finally revealed, boasting seventeen tracks and almost as many features. One notable guest appearance comes from fellow New Yorker Nas, who will appear on the song "Rich And Black."
Raekwon recently confirmed that the tracklisting was correct, give or take a few issues with sequencing, and also described his experience working with Nas.
"It definitely sounds like vintage Rae and Nas again," Rae told XXL magazine. Upon releasing his critically acclaimed Only Built 4 Cuban Linx Pt. II in 2009, the veteran emcee expressed his disappointment that Nas did not feature on the album, stating that he felt some rappers were too "busy in their own minds." However, the two seem to have gotten past the misunderstanding.

B.o.B. and Bruno Mars both make Atlantic Records' new roster proud with 500,000-mark postings, as Houston, Texas' Lecrae is making history for Christian Rap.
Two of Atlantic Records' new stars cross the 500,000 mark. Collaborators Bruno Mars and B.o.B. meet their domestic gold this week with each's debut album reaching that plateau. Christian emcee Lecrae also made a splash with a Top 20 debut, Rehab: The Overdose, which very nearly topped Eminem's similarly titled Recovery.
Bruno Mars topped all urban releases on the charts. After making a monstrous climb on the charts two weeks ago, Atlantic's Grammy Awards-performing singer, producer and songwrite assumed the #4 spot with his debut Doo Wops & Hooligans, which features B.o.B. and Damian Marley.
DXnext alum Nicki Minaj slid three spots, though was close behind with Pink Friday. The effort out-sold the critically-acclaimed Kanye West album for a fifth straight week, which was released on the same November 22 date. Featuring both Nicki's brand of singing and rapping, Pink Friday has appearances from will.i.am, Drake and Eminem.

The rapper is so dedicated to his conversion to Judaism he wants to make the Holy Land his home
Over the last several months gangsta rapper Shyne has been studying for a conversion to Hasidic Judaism. The former Bad Boy star has moved to Israel and begun making and releasing music there. Now he’d like to make things official as he’s formally requested to be made a full Israeli citizen by the country’s government. According to AllHipHop.com, Shyne was quoted by the Isreal based website ISREAL21c as saying, “We are getting this dual citizenship thing going.”
Though the rapper has changed his civilian name to Moses Levi he is quick to point out that that change may not necessarily be reflected in the music he makes as Shyne. He says, “I make music for the masses. Moshe Levi has a great impact on the music that Shyne makes, and I'm sure in the future you might see that, but I never prophesied that I'd be making religious music.”

Luther "Luke" Campbell has gone from "Banned in the USA" to a potential politician.
Rhymefest and Wyclef Jean are not the only emcees dabbling in politics. 2 Live Crew co-founder Luther "Luke" Campbell, who presently coaches high school football in Miami, Florida, recently told the Miami New Times that he's open to running for the city's mayor seat.
The cause for the former rapper's pursuits has to do with a controversial Miami mayor facing a recall after Dade county employees received raises and a county budget increase in the face of a troubled economy. “If Carlos Alvarez gets recalled, I will seriously think about running for Miami-Dade County mayor,” wrote Campbell in an editorial for the newspaper. Mayor Alvarez has a present recall date of March 15, 2011. Campbell promises more "transparency" to the elected office if he were to be chosen by the people.

Lloyd Banks credits the Chef with inspire him to return to storytelling.
Early on in his G-Unit career, Lloyd Banks was considered by many to be G-Unit's best storyteller. Boasting his talents on songs like 50 Cent's "Don't Push Me" and his own "Til The End," Banks had no problem spinning tales of crime and regret.
So when G-Unit's youngest member got away from his lyrical plots, it took one of Hip Hop's most renowned storytellers to get him back on track: Raekwon of the Wu-Tang clan.
When the Wu member sent Banks an unfinished "Last Train to Scotland" off of Rae's upcoming Shaolin vs. Wu-Tang album, the Queens emcee knew exactly what to do. "Soon as I heard [Raekwon's] verse it was on some storytelling shit, so I already knew what I had to do with it," he said to Vibe.com. "Rae is one of the best at that, so his verse opened up my mind. It wasn't like I had a blank beat to go off of."

Preemo explains why Kanye West and Eminem's albums can't compare to The Left and Roc Marciano's, and reveals what guidance he is providing to young K.C. Elam.
In commemoration of this month’s 20th anniversary of the release of Gang Starr’s stellar sophomore album, Step in the Arena, HipHopDX spoke to DJ Premier on Wednesday (January 12th) for the first in a new DX feature series, “Timeless,” which will revisit time-tested albums with their creators in the depth and detail only DX can.
For the release Tuesday (January 18th) of the second collection of some of Preme’s previously in-the-vault instrumentals, Beats That Collected Dust, Volume 2, DX additionally discussed with Premier the latest release on his Year Round Records (following December’s YR compilation effort, Get Used To Us).
During his incredibly in-depth Q&A, Preme also explained the origins of his recently un-vaulted Madonna remix, updated the progress K.C. Elam has made so far as a deejay-in-training under Preme’s tutelage (and revealed what other schooling he has provided to Guru’s only son), responded to recent revelations from Scarface about ‘Face’s history with his fellow Texas native during the early days of their careers, revealed if he and Drake have collaborated yet as previously planned, clarified once and forever the correct spelling of his nickname, and lastly, and most notably to the readers of this site, the greatest producer in Hip Hop history responded to “all the haters” at HipHopDX who decried the 2010 edition of his annual list of favorite albums of the year.
HipHopDX: This Beats That Collected Dust, Volume 2 that’s droppin’ next week, this is stuff that was gonna be used for [Gang Starr’s] Hard to Earn?
DJ Premier: No, there’s [only one] track on there called “I Don’t Know” [that was originally created for Hard to Earn]. When I write my discs, when I find samples and I don’t know what to call it, I call ‘em all kind of weird names. And I didn’t know what to call it, so I called it “I Don’t Know” on the disc. So that’s why I just left it as the name of it. And I gave it to Freddie Foxxx ‘cause he said, “Man, let me do a couple of freestyles over them Beats That Collected Dust that you got coming out so I can really throw ‘em out there to coincide with us releasing our Freddie Foxxx/Premier album called The Kolexion.” And I was like, “Alright.” So, I didn’t tell him that was a former Gang Starr track. That was the only one on there that was a Gang Starr track that me and Guru didn’t finish. So when I sent him that, he didn’t even know. And he calls me and goes, “Yo, I just wrote a song called ‘The Gang Starr Bus.’ It’s ill. I want you to check it out.” And when I heard it, I started crying, man. ‘Cause, I remember that time. [And] everything Freddie Foxxx said – even if you weren’t there, you were there. Like, he said it to the T of that bus journey on that tour, when we were on the Moment of Truth tour [and the] Smokin’ Grooves [tour], with Public Enemy, Cypress Hill, Busta Rhymes and the Flipmode [Squad]. And Black Eyed Peas weren’t even known yet. They were our opening act. Mya was the first opening act, then there was Black Eyed Peas. They was [doing] ill jazzy dance steps, with a drummer and a bass player. And they were dope! That’s when I was like, “Yo, they’re gonna blow up. One day they’re gonna be huge.” And look at ‘em, they’re huge. And M.O.P. was with us. You know, we had already gone past the stage of being with Group Home and Jeru [The Damaja]. They had grown, and we had outgrown each other… So, that was our traveling party: Headqcourterz, Mike Rome, my man Eion, Vick Black, Freddie Foxx, M.O.P. …Foxx from M.O.P., she was on the tour with us. Laze E. Laze. We went through so much, man. So to go through that, and then to go through hearing the lyrics of what he said, it just took me [back]. And he was also talking about the Rage Against The Machine tour that we did where we opened up for Rage Against The Machine. That’s just a sentimental time for us… He was talking about we made Sara [Honda] cry every day, but she loved us anyway. That was our assistant at my manager’s office. And Phat Gary keeping Guru out of rumors - that’s all real shit, man.
