Between the rising incidents of atrocities on Dalit community, Vijay mishra, a scholar in history and part time film maker, tries to explore the scene of social injustice with case study of Gohana and harsaulla (both are villages of Harayana)
A visit to Gohana, hardly 75 kilometers away from the national capital one can come across many such stories where overnight many such happy and bustling families have not only been rendered homeless but a dark future is awaiting before them. On that day (31st August'05) the town witnessed burning of 50-60 houses belonging to Valmiki (Dalit) community in broad daylight. As it was reported in the media a 1,500-2,000 strong of mob of upper caste people mainly belonging to the Jat community attacked their houses in a systematic manner. The perpetrators had come fully armed with spears, batons, axes, petrol and kerosene oils. They broke TV sets, Refrigerators, Washing Machines, looted the valuables and burst LPG cylinders.
Legally, the notion of untouchables and discrimination against the Dalits are prohibited under the Indian Constitution under a 1955 civil rights act and the 1989 Prevention of Atrocities, or POA, act. The act was written explicitly to outlaw physical and verbal abuse against Dalits, but hasn't had the desired effect.

Pet overpopulation is the most serious humane issue facing pet animals in our society.
Thousands of pets die in Los Angeles every year as a result of overpopulation. Their remains are collected throughout the city (from shelters, veterinarian offices and even from the streets) and then taken to rendering facilities to be processed into raw materials - which will be used in the production of items that include cosmetics, animal and fish feed.
Rendering involves crushing animal by-products (eg, fat, bones and internal organs), heating them to drive off the water content and then separating the residue into fat (generally called 'tallow') and solids.

There is a small but growing group of farmers, ranchers and land managers who are challenging both environmentalists and traditional ranchers to change the debate on overgrazing and land degradation. This trailer highlights four individuals that have embarked on a new, more holistic strategy to save their farms, heal the land and improve their overall quality of life. They make a compelling case that cattle and other grazers can and do have a positive impact on the environment and provide a sustainable income for farmers and their communities.
The completed video (coming February 2009) will be a practical guide specifically for the rancher but will also provide food for thought for policy makers, environmentalists, scientists or anyone who is interested in the environmental health of grazing lands and the communities and livelihood that it supports. There is a small but growing group of farmers, ranchers and land managers who are... more

The funeral of a part of car culture today. Five-7,000 bicyclists gettin' freaky on dressed up bikes, parading through town, blocking up traffic with the help of the local police. And they say yes we can, in gospel style choruses and the funereal procession of the proverbial Escalade, life led by a dark and soulful marching band. Clank below to check out the Fort Collins version '08.The funeral of a part of car culture today. Five-7,000 bicyclists gettin' freaky... more

As governments debate what to about the current economic crisis, this film explores the day-to-day reality for those workers living on a financial knife-edge.
For most people, work seems the most likely route out of poverty and exclusion. But for over five million people in the UK who prefer to work than claim benefits, and who do not have any dependent children, there continues to be the risk of poverty and social exclusion.
This sensitive film dispels myths by following academically high-achieving but debt-trapped Adele; diabetic Peter close to retirement; and church-going Jean-Louis, who, whilst working two cleaning jobs, has little time to actually eat.
Following much research these three were selected for being representative of the wider demographic of five million low-income workers (16% of the total UK workforce).
Each is a very different character, but all have one thing in common: they are more than willing to work, but wonder whether they are stuck in a spiral of disadvantage. As governments debate what to about the current economic crisis, this film explores... more
