This is a very educational and funny look at the keys to taking the swing states. I wonder if McCain and Obama will take the advice of strategy in this video. If anything, the ending would be quite a surprise...shoutouts to GOOD Magazine!

Hey everyone, welcome to Monday...or mid-Monday. It's time, once again, to wrap up what went down in the Current community last week, so let's jump right in.
// Hack the Debate III //
The much anticipated debate between VP candidates Sarah Palin and Joe Biden rocked the world last Thursday, and it sent ripples throughout the community. Did Palin meet expectations? Did Biden blow her out of the water? Plenty of discussion took place (check out the Most Commented Stories section below), but that's just the beginning.
The stage has been set for John McCain and Barack Obama to meet up once again, this time in a Town Hall setting, and we are all ready to go with Hack the Debate III. That's right, fire up your Twitter account and get ready to #current all night long. Head to our debate page for more details:

The economic crisis has stirred up some pretty raw emotions, and last week illdoctrine took a minute to give his take on the situation in a pod he called Economics and Annoying Smart Guys. Check out his take on the situation here:

He must've struck a chord with people because his pod ended up being last week's VC2 leaderboard winner. Kudos to you, illdoctrine, and thanks for sharing your thoughts on the situation here at home. BTW -- nice Dr. Strangelove reference.

During the run up to the vice presidential debate, there was much media and blogosphere speculation as how Governor Sarah Palin might handle the debate, whether or not Senator Joe Biden would be able to control himself, and of course, who would win. Voices without Votes covered much of this conjecture throughout the global blogosphere. We now follow up our coverage to answer the question, "Who won the debate?"
CNN and just about every other American news source reported that, although Palin exceeded expectations, Biden won the debate. In an opinion piece for The New York Times, Mark J. Penn stated that, "Thursday night, Senator Joe Biden did something we have not seen enough of in presidential debates in the last decade -- he gave knowledgeable, fact-based answers that were based on understanding the issues facing this country." To the mainstream U.S. media, it was clear that Joe Biden had won the debate.
But what about the rest of the world? A report from Israel's Haaretz indicates agreement with U.S. media. Pakistan's Daily Times applauded Biden's consideration of Pakistani issues. And bloggers?During the run up to the vice presidential debate, there was much media and... more

Who's running for president, anyway?
Far more people watched Thursday's vice presidential debate between Joe Biden and Sarah Palin on television than watched the first presidential debate.
Nielsen Media Research says preliminary ratings in the nation's 55 biggest markets were up 42 percent from the same measurement of John McCain and Barack Obama's first encounter last Friday.
Nielsen's specific estimate of how many people watched Thursday night will be out later, but indications are it will be one of the most-watched political debates ever.
Curiosity over Palin's performance undoubtedly played a role, but don't discount timing: More people generally watch television on Thursdays than Fridays.Who's running for president, anyway?

Let me preface this by saying that I love current and it has been instrumental in allowing me to hear all sorts of views on nearly everything. The best comments are always by the people who do more listening and research than the rest. Their comments are very valuable and I appreciate their willingness and self control that keeps them from impulsively spouting out some garbage that sounds like it's from a grade school 'cut-down war'. Thanks to all who have taken the time to explain themselves intelligently and show evidence for their stance on something.
Now.. a few weeks ago when I began seeing ads for the first Hack the Debate, It seemed like a nifty idea, but when it came down to it, I'd rather listen to what was being said, without distractions and allow myself some time to actually think and reflect on the things that both candidates were saying. I tried to watch but quickly changed the channel so I could watch without the distractions and impulsive comments flooding all over the screen. most of which were quite ignorant and a surprising amount of people discussing the various types of 'debate drinking games' one could play, which led me to believe that they weren't really concerned with what was being said as much as seeing their twitter on the screen of a television channel.
I have a feeling like I'm not the only one that has become frustrated with this...
Now once again regarding the VP Hack the Debate and the hundreds of comments I've already tried to muddle through here on the site all written less than 12 hours since the event (and a gross proportion of comments being posted during the debate itself) I've seen more asinine comments than I ever thought I could possibly see here on current.com
I have to wonder what number of us here are actually carefully listening and actually contemplating what is being said versus typing away in the midst of a chaotic blast of ridiculous one liners that is messier than any food fight that I ever remember.
I suppose what I'm trying to say is that I'm disappointed in 2 things:
(1) the number of people who either don't actually listen or don't allow themselves time to even process what they're hearing.
and (2) CURRENT television for continuing to encourage people to not sit and listen to possibly some of the most important presidential debates in our lifetime. It was quality that brought me here in the first place and right now I can't help but feel a bit let down. Much of this is trash I would expect to find on youTube.
I have the utmost respect for all of you here at current but in my understanding "hack the debate" has done more harm for many viewers than anything. I encourage you to rethink the Hack. Sure, it promotes and allows free citizens to exercise our right to free speech, but at our own expense of not hearing what's going on.
Let's at least wait until we've heard what had to be said by both parties and then discuss it. Twitter until you can twitter no more, just LISTEN.Let me preface this by saying that I love current and it has been instrumental in... more

Who 'anyone' can say that Biden even remotely came close to winning the Debate tonight 'must' have blinders on!,,
She was able to show just how many 'lies' Biden in standing in front of all of America told on he and Obama's behalf!,
People say that Palin doesn't have the experience?????,,People Obama has only '4' yrs !,,and with 'any 'debate ,,they 'all' rehearse what they are going to say,,and she had the withall to stand that and tell all of AMERICA what her beliefs are!,,I applaud her!,,she did a 'WONDERFUL' JOB!,,
How Biden could get on there in front of the nation and say that Obama has 'NO' plans on raising taxes is absolutely ludicrous!,,People there are sites on here that show 'their vote records',,look them up urself!,,Obama was for more taxes than anyone and the ones he didn't vote for is because it was a 'NV' no vote!,,
Biden even admitted before he was offered the job of VP ,ADMITTED' HE WOULD NEVER HAVE VOTED FOR OBAMA!,,but now he's kissin butt for the job!,
Wake up people!,,Sarah may not have the experience in Washington but look at her record as Mayor and as Govenor and the taxes she has saved the 'middle' class people of her state!,,
Do we need more taxes??????????,,Well if you don't want to get hit with more ,then Obama is
definately NOT FOR US!,,
And I honestly believe that Obama agrees to talk to the Foreign leaders is because,,it's not hard to converse with someone of your OWN FAITH!,,
She tells it like it is!,,wasn't afraid of any question given to her!,,and wasn't intemidated in the least
GOOOOOOOOOOOO McCain/Palin!!!!!
One more important thing,,to all the CHRISTIANS OUT THERE,,god forbid if Obama gets this Presidency!,,you believe it's bad now by not having the right to take a Bible to work./school,,our rights for our religious freedoms have been taken away and it will only get worse if the Christians DON'T STAND UP AND VOTE for the one that is actually a CHRISTAIN!Who 'anyone' can say that Biden even remotely came close to winning the... more

Biden spoke of filling in NATO forces in Palestine...does the American public even know what this means? It means drawing down in Iraq and sending troops to Palestine. The Obama-Biden team is using their Iraq drawdown marketing strategy that is completely overshadowing their real plans. I suggest that the public really think about their decision and realize that these two are just politicians who are speaking what the American public wants to hear...Biden spoke of filling in NATO forces in Palestine...does the American public even... more
