Google's venture into the world of mobile phones got another boost today, as the second handset running their operating system, Android, has been launched by Vodafone at the MWC conference in Barcelona.
The HTC Magic boasts a 3.2 Megapixel camera, Wi-Fi, and GPS, but, alas, no slide-out keyboard like the original 'Google phone,' HTC's 'G1' which was launched exclusively on T-Mobile late last year.
Think Google can take on Apple with their new phones? I've had a little go on one of the G1s and I have to admit, I bloody liked it. An that's coming from a die hard iPhone fan...Google's venture into the world of mobile phones got another boost today, as the... more

Only two days in to the trial and it appears that the Pirate Bay is winning its battle against the plaintiffs - Universal, Warner Bros, MGM, EMI, 20th Century Fox, Colombia Pictures, and Sony BMG. About half of the charges against the file sharing website have been dropped due to insufficient evidence.
The prosecutor allegedly was unable to prove that the .torrent files are related to The Pirate Bay's torrent tracker, and so has dropped all charges related to "assisting copyright infringement.”
So, the Swedish court seems to have recognized that a torrent search engine, which doesn’t store actual copyrighted files, cannot be guilty of copyright infringement.Only two days in to the trial and it appears that the Pirate Bay is winning its battle... more

It seems that way if recent reports are anything to go on.
According to New Media Age, Sky have plans in the pipeline to launch their own 'digital music subscription service,' which they hope will provide subscribers with 'unlimited music access' via a set-top box.
Sky have been in talks with Omnifone, those lovely mobile music service providing people who have licensing on four of the major labels and thousands of independents, to join forces and provide, what I assume, is something similar to Spotify, Last.fm, Blip.FM, Pandora etc...
The companies have admitted to meeting, but wouldn't comment any further on discussions.
Is there really any need for such a service given the wealth of both legal and illegal music people can download/stream off the net?
Personally, I'd say no.It seems that way if recent reports are anything to go on.

YES PLEASE! Remix capabilities on your iPhone!
The Grammy-nominated dance music producer Deadmau5 have teamed up with an Irish development company called Future Audio Workshop, to bring you what could be one of the most forward-thinking iPhone apps ever to grace the digital world.
Apparently the application lets you "mix and remix every song on the album," regardless of technical ability, and is something they're looking to use on future applications with various albums. You can switch up the BPM, control up to four channels simultaneously, loop tracks and even use the built in crossfader to switch between tracks and pretend you're the next superstar DJ.
I shall be purchasing this as soon as I get home, hopefully it's as good as my 1210s...YES PLEASE! Remix capabilities on your iPhone!

In the ongoing effort to safely catch car criminals, two police constabularies are going to be using a new crime-busting technology that's used commonly by the US military -- the X Net. It's a massive "spider web" that catches cars dead in their tracks. Those anxiously awaiting the restart of the most complex machine ever built on earth will have to wait a little longer, as CERN today announced they were pushing back Large Hadron's restart to September.
It was previously hoped that the LHC's tunnels would be down to near absolute zero in time for a summer reactivation, but September is now the goal to accommodate further safety features and inspections. Experiment data will be in eager physicists' hands by early 2010 by the new schedule.Those anxiously awaiting the restart of the most complex machine ever built on earth... more

"The story of a man who ages backwards may sound gimmicky to say the least, but with David Fincher as its director, and Brad Pitt as the protagonist, 'The Curious Case of Benjamin Button' is elegant, well structured, and well acted by the entire cast from Pitt, Cate Blanchett, and Taraji P. Killzone 2 is arguably the most anticipated title for the PS3, after the awesome trailer was released at E3 several years ago!
In the first review it has killed it, Killzone 2 was handed the maximum score, five stars out of five, by the official magazine with the reviewer undoubtedly stating "Killzone fans, action, and shooter fans of any stripe will instantly tag this sequel as a powerful contender for the best game of 2009."
I cannot wait! But will it live up to the hype? Can it be compared to Halo 3?Killzone 2 is arguably the most anticipated title for the PS3, after the awesome... more

Is that all?
Research conducted by OnePoll has discovered that UK teenagers spend on average 87 hours a year watching online smut.
OnePoll conducted the survey of 1000 UK teens aged only between 13 and 15, and rather unshockingly found that they spend an average of 31 hours a week surfing online.
I'd be tempted to say that had the poll included all teens, then that number could have been even higher.
Here's the breakdown of how the survey categorised its results;
* Downloading music 1 hour 40 minutes
* YouTube 2 hours 2 minutes
* MSN 3 hours 29 minutes
* Chatrooms 2 hours 5 minutes
* Virtual World sites 1 hour 55 minutes
* Homework/research 3 hours 10 minutes
* Shopping 1 hour 49 minutes
* Auction sites 1 hour 28 minutes
* Cosmetic surgery 1 hour 8 minutes
* Soft porn 1 hour 40 minutes
* Dieting/weight loss 1 hour 35 minutes
* Family planning/pregnancy 1 hour 32 minutes
* NHS Direct/Health 1 hour 22 minutes
* Samaritans 1 hour 1 minute
* Dating 1 hour 15 minutes
* Social networking 3 hours 47 minutesIs that all?

The Liverpool John Lennon Airport, in Liverpool, U.K., will soon become the world's first to try a revolutionary piece of technology that will recycle the breath of passengers into biofuel.
The Eco-box, developed by Origo Industries, will capture the CO2 exhaled by airport travelers and convert it to fuel to be used in the airport's diesel vehicles and heating system.
The Eco-box was originally designed to reduce carbon emissions from vehicles. It works by capturing carbon emissions through a photo-bioreactor as a feedstock for algae, producing biomass that is then refined and converted to green fuel.
"The project at the airport is an early trial of a system which we believe could have a significant impact on the way companies today can obtain fuel and manage carbon emissions," said Iain Houston, Origo's CEO and founder.
Installation of the carbon recycling system began in January, with a goal of harnessing 24,000 gallons of fuel from the pilot program, as well as providing heating and hot water to the airport. The company hopes to expand to a 289,000 gallon system following the trial, providing approximately 800 gallons of biofuel each day. "

Whether you're a die hard Twitterer, or you think it's just "hordes of people patiently queuing up to moo aimlessly at each other in the latest online social networking craze" as Charlie Brooker puts it, getting the latest updates, tour details and musings from your favourite bands is definitely no bad thing.
There's the obvious PR-driven profiles (looking at you here, Coldplay) but the likes of Imogen Heap and Ben Kweller have really got stuck in (Heap even regularly using video micro-blogging site 12 Seconds TV) and there's something brilliant about how they openly converse with fans and answer questions personally without any record company filters.

"TED, the annual gathering of the most pretentious people from the fields of technology, entertainment, and design, just got punk'd. Microsoft chairman Bill Gates released a swarm of mosquitos into the crowd.
Ending malaria is a particular passion of Gates's, whose Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation has spent millions fighting the disease. But he apparently didn't feel like TED attendees were taking the threat seriously. "Not only poor people should experience this," Gates said as he let the bugs loose on his audience..."
