This 30-minute documentary is an American University MFA thesis film project featuring Professors Noam Chomsky, Neferti Tadiar, Nerissa Balce and Kenneth Bauzon who analyze the contemporary relevance of the 1899 Philippine-American War for the 21st century U.S. empire. The use of third party footage/images were guided by the Documentary Filmmakers' Statement of Best Practices in Fair Use published by American University-Center for Social Media website: http://www.centerforsocialmedia.org/fair-use
Part 1 argues the idea that the bloody War of 1899 (and not World War 2) is the foundation of Philippine-U.S. relations. The Part 1 also visually shows footage of World war 2 combat and deaths that are just as brutal and traumatic as the footage of the 1899 combat and deaths.
Part 2 describes the idea that the war of 1899 is one characterized by systematic use of torture (despite official denials), one of which, the WATER CURE, can even claim to be the grandfather of the Post-9/11 Dick Cheney "water-boarding WAR ON TERROR happy hour drink special"
Part 3 explains the brutality/racism of the 1899 Philippine-American War as not so much different from the brutality/racism of her previous wars of conquest of indigenous cultures commonly called the Indian Wars (most of the Indian dead photographs, as well as re-enactment movies as shown in the film were related to the infamous 1890 Wound Knee Massacre). We also learn in Part 3 that this turn of the century systematic and violent repression of nationalist uprisings in the Philippines became the template used by the U.S. in its many military occupations in Latin America and the Caribbean in the 20th century.
Part 4 ends with the idea of interconnectedness of domestic and overseas conflicts as violence migrates from the brutality of the Indian wars (e.g. 1890 Wounded Knee massacre) to the Philippine-American war abuses (e.g. 1906 Bud Dajo massacre) and to its 21st century echoes of human rights atrocities in the war in Iraq (e.g. 2007 WIKILEAKS video)This 30-minute documentary is an American University MFA thesis film project featuring... more

What would you lose if your home was destroyed?
This film has been specially commissioned by Axa, and produced by Coast Productions, to share the personal stories of people affected by home disasters, which have resulted in insurance claims.
The short film film takes viewers through this personal drama from the perspective of the Shotton family, whose home was effected by water damage last year when their toilet water pipe became dislodged. Narrated by the different family members, the film gives a real insight into how the smallest things - like damaged photos - are often the most disruptive and distressing.
Axa recognise the trauma that families often go through when their lives are disrupted by even the most minor of home disasters, and so provide a personal claims adviser to guide claimants throughout the whole claims process. In the film, we see Audrey McCray - one of Axa's Personal Claims Handlers - assist the Shotton family through their claims process following their home disaster.
Creating such a film is pioneering for the insurance industry...

In 1995, Sir Arthur C. Clarke, the futurist and science fiction writer most well known for his novel 2001: A Space Odyssey, presented a television documentary on the 1980 discovery of the Mandelbrot Set (M-Set). Fractals: The Colors of Infinity brings us inside the world of fractal geometry, and soon enough we’re encountering what has been called “the thumbprint of God.” Clarke narrates the film, which has a 54 minute runtime. David Gilmour (guitarist, vocalist and songwriter for Pink Floyd) created the soundtrack.

Too often we see the historic places of Memphis torn down and erased from memory or entombed and displayed as an icon of bygone days.
With the passing of legendary music producer Willie Mitchell in January of 2010 it could be easy to think that the days of Hi-Records, Al Green, and Ann Peebles would be all that could be written for Royal Studios. Not so.
Lawrence "Boo" Mitchell took his father's place at the helm of the vintage MCI Soundboard and is prepared to usher in a new era of Memphis music in the same space that helped give Memphis its status as the storied city of rock, blues, and soul.
