Walt Disney’s John Carter Of Mars has started production in London. Academy Award winning director Andrew Stanton (Finding Nemo, Wall*e) will be directing. It had been rumored that this would be Pixar’s first live action film, however it was later confirmed that Pixar is not the one’s funding it - the film will be fully funded by Disney. Disney has released a full press release which includes the cast and crew, and a brief synopsis for those of you who are unfamiliar with the story.
This film is loaded with talent, and with Andrew Stanton at the helm of his first live action film, this movie should be high on everyone’s radar. The story is very similar to Avatar (it was written over 80 years ago) and should prove to be a great sci-fi epic. Read the full press release below. What a great cast and crew.

Willem Dafoe has joined the cast of Andrew Stanton’s new project John Carter Of Mars, playing a green-skinned Martian warrior.
Don't worry he is not a bad guy like he was as the Green Goblin. This time he’s on the side of the good guys, he plays Tars Tarkas a leader of the multi-limbed alien. He teams up with a strange hero, a Civil War soldier who is mysteriously transported to the Red Planet, and finds himself in the middle of an even bigger conflict.
Dafoe's four-limbed Tars, is unique amongst his generally savage people for being able to appreciate the little things in life, like art and love, should provide a heck of a showcase for Dafoe.
Stanton co-wrote, with Mark Andrews, and directing the epic Disney flick, based on Edgar Rice Burroughs’ series of novels. Filming starts next year, with the release coming in 2012.Willem Dafoe has joined the cast of Andrew Stanton’s new project John Carter Of... more
