If you had questions about what to grab on DVD this week, boy howdy do we got some answers for you. We're a bit rushed this week, due to being at Sundance, so let's just get down to it.
Special WAIT WHAT DVD: Sherlock Holmes. No, not the Downey version. This comes straight from mockbuster masters, The Asylum. In it, Holmes fights a T-Rex, a Krakken and even a robot. Stranger still? Amazon lists the DVD as discontinued, despite The Asylum claiming otherwise nevermind it's back up for sale on Amazon. Hoo ray!
DVDo's
-Surrogates is a Do because of the various tacky hairdo's being rocked by Ving Rhames and Bruce Willis.
-Pontypool is an indie Canadian horror film from Bruce McDonald that was incredible last year.
-Give 'Em Hell Mallone is a two-fisted noir with Thomas Jane and Ving Rhames. Thomas Jane is a bit better than Willis, btw.
-Whip It is the Ellen Page roller grrl drama. It was hit or miss for some, but beloved by those that do.
-Michael Jackson's This Is It is like a really cool concert making of. Except, you know. C'mon. You know.
DVDon't's
-Little Ashes features Robert Pattison as Salvadore Dali. Just, no.
-I Hope They Serve Beer In Hell was a commercial failure based off some douchebag's book about being a douchebag.
-The Boys Are Back was another hit or miss "indie" featuring Clive Owen as a father learning to love, etc.
-Saw VI made no goddamn sense. Seriously. You need a flow-chart to keep track of this plot.

+ Take that, New Moon. Despite the Twilight sequel soundtrack prompting many a WTF-but-it's-actually-good, it was Karen O of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs who is starting to rack up awards season accolades. Her score for "Where the Wild Things Are" (with Carter Burwell) scored a Golden Globes nomination today and, due to a minor Miley Cyrus mess-up, Karen O and the Kids' "All Is Love" is now included in the Grammys' noms for best songs written for the screen. (There's no official video for this, but the fanvid above does a decent job of mixing clips from the trailer.)
+ The Globes' main difference from the Oscars—other than featuring drunken tables of nominees who tend to wander off during the show—is in its segregation of dramatic films and musical/comedy flicks. But they also don't have a home for documentary films, leaving the much-ballyhooed Michael Jackson tour doc "This It It" more likely to be on a ballot with "Nine." Except how apparently the Globe-keepers, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, didn't even entertain that possibility.
+ U2 picked up a Golden Globe nod for "Winter," a stripped down version of which appears in the movie "Brothers." It's oddly lacking in the cinematic vibe the original had:
