LINKEDIN, a social network service for professionals, plans to file for an initial public offering in the US within months.
Reports suggest Linkedin is keen to take advantage of growing investor interest in privately held technology companies.
A LinkedIn filing in the first quarter of the year may give it an edge before investor demand is soaked up by a widely anticipated offering from Facebook within the next 12 months.
Groupon, the online coupon service that recently turned down a $US6 billion takeover bid from Google, has already raised $US500 million of a $US950m round of new funds by selling shares to private investors.

It is understood that the company, founded in 2003 by the former PayPal executive Reid Hoffman, has picked Bank of America Merrill Lynch, JPMorgan Chase and Morgan Stanley as underwriters.
