UN climate talks on ending deforestation hit a new low on Saturday after a leaked document revealed that immediate targets to halt forest loss had been cut out of a draft agreement.
Poorer forested countries had been willing to accept deforestation targets, but only with financial assistance. They wanted rich countries to commit to providing billions of dollars for the effort before they agreed to bind themselves to any goals.
Currently, there are no dollar commitments on the table. ...

It is a human rights issue. It is a development issue. It is more than only an environment issue. This is China’s view of climate change, as explained by He Yafei, China’s Vice Minister for Foreign Affairs.
One phrase that has been reiterated uniformly from the Chinese and the G77 is that developed countries have a “historical responsibility” to help developing countries adapt to and mitigate climate change through financial mechanisms and technology transfer. But demands for technology transfer, especially when they run into private intellectual property rights, have made or broken many a treaty.
“Technology transfer should not be used as an excuse for them [developed countries] not to deliver on their promise,” China's He said as the first week of international climate talks wrapped up in Copenhagen.
“Intellectual property rights, its protection has been improved for it in developing countries including China. ... But that doesn’t give developed countries any reason to do less than what they have committed in terms of technology transfer.”
Regardless of the Chinese government’s stance, the Chinese entrepreneurs of the Society of Entrepreneurs and Ecology (SEE) are poised to develop and transfer climate adaptation technology themselves. ...

negotiators from poor nations are threatening to abandon targets on curbing deforestation if there is no commitment from the rich to pay for a forestry scheme.
"To just have a target without a financial commitment, developing countries see as a trap," Kevin Conrad, special envoy and ambassador for environment and climate change for Papua New Guinea, told SolveClimate at the international climate negotiations under way in Copenhagen.
"It's not that we're afraid of the target," he said, "it's that we're afraid of being left high and dry."
The scheme, called Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation, or REDD, is designed to pay poor nations to protect carbon-saving forests.

"Journalist Phelim McAleer ('Mine Your Own Business', 'Not Evil Just Wrong') asks Prof Stephen Schneider from Stanford University an Inconvenient Question about 'Climategate' emails. McAleer is interrupted twice by Prof Schneider's assistant and UN staff and then told to stop filming by an armed UN security guard."
If the scientific consensus on global warming only consists of UN-approved, IPCC scientists, then that's not much of a consensus. But, I guess the 30,000 scientists, including the founder of the weather channel, John Coleman, who want to sue Al Gore are just "flat-Earthers."
Think science is a boring profession? If you were a scientist would you support global warming if you knew that if you didn't you'd lose your job, lose funding, blackmail, being tailed and followed, death threats. This is hardcore stuff that isn't in the news, but will be in the big Hollywood movie and everyone will be, "that's fake," when its scary real. The real inconvenient truth is the New World Order."Journalist Phelim McAleer ('Mine Your Own Business', 'Not Evil... more

It’s hard to listen when your emotions are…heated (couldn’t resist). Just ask Christopher Monckton who, in a heated moment, called the young activists who protested The Americans for Prosperity meeting in Copenhagen yesterday. (Monckton heads up an organization called the Committee for a Constructive Tomorrow, a group known for its opposition to scientific consensus on climate change).
Ok~ So that’s old news. The saga continued today when Monckton was confronted by a group of young activists he approached to discuss his perspective on climate science.
But when the youth activists featured in the video confronted Mockton about comparing them to Hitler Youth, he went on to talk over them and threaten, “Now you know what will happen if you invade a private meeting and start shrieking.”
There are several points about that statement that are fascinating. The first, it was not a private meeting. It appears that it was a live webcast that was open to the public, and when you watch the video, it looks like the room is only filled with activists…and then there’s that nod at the end. The next day Monckton bragged that his team was responsible for putting that video on youtube moments after the event occurred, it it begs one to question:
Was this entire event staged? Was Monckton looking for an opportunity to provoke young activists so they could get the term “Hitler Youth” into the media?
Hook. Line. And Sinker. Well done.
You got my attention.
I’m going to listen to Monckton because in the big scheme of things, it’s just the right thing to do.
Ok, no angel wings growing yet~ so the real reason reason I want to listen is because I smell the language of fear.
Monckton is afraid.
While many people are out there calling him crazy, I think he's scary because it appears he is deliberately and strategically spreading a message of fear. And no matter what you think about climate science and global warming~ that feels dangerous.
The one thing history has proven time and time again, is that people do outrageous things when they act from a place of fear.
Lord Monckton is saying he is scared. He is saying that world food prices have doubled. He is stating that millions are dying in third world countries because of the global warming scare because people who are working to reduce global warming don’t care. (I’m not following that logic). He said, “Until you start caring..I will continue to call you Hitler Youth.” (Lost me on that one too. Most people I know who give over their lives to activism and working on climate change issues are intensely aware of the amount of climate refugees and the amount of death and destruction that is happening on the planet. It’s safe to say they deeply care). Monckton says, “Now you know what it looks like when you do robotic things like the Hitler youth did when they occupied Copenhagen…you do as much damage to the poor as they Hitler youth did.” Hmmm. Hate crimes against Jews compared to being responsible for children dying in developing countries. I dunno, not to sound harsh, but I grew up on commercials showing me starving children in Africa. I’m not making the connection between the recent surge toward climate protection and starving people in developing countries.
So when I listen, I hear that Monckton has chosen to pick one of the most triggering symbols of hate crimes the world has, will he will call them the children of the KKK tomorrow? At this point, he has actively chosen to put himself in front of the camera repeatedly speaking the language of hate, and by doing so he is spreading a message of fear and desperation. To me, it sounds like Mockton and the groups he represents feels threatened by the act of pursuing policy that requires nations to coordinate efforts that may result in the global economy shifting. It sounds like he is afraid of losing money. Now that makes sense to me. And that, can cause a great deal of fear. It’s hard to listen when your emotions are…heated (couldn’t... more

The whole world needs to adopt China's one-child policy.
The "inconvenient truth" overhanging the UN's Copenhagen conference is not that the climate is warming or cooling, but that humans are overpopulating the world.
A planetary law, such as China's one-child policy, is the only way to reverse the disastrous global birthrate currently, which is one million births every four days.
The world's other species, vegetation, resources, oceans, arable land, water supplies and atmosphere are being destroyed and pushed out of existence as a result of humanity's soaring reproduction rate.
The intelligence behind this is the following:
-If only one child per female was born as of now, the world's population would drop from its current 6.5 billion to 5.5 billion by 2050, according to a study done for scientific academy Vienna Institute of Demography.
-By 2075, there would be 3.43 billion humans on the planet. This would have immediate positive effects on the world's forests, other species, the oceans, atmospheric quality and living standards.
-Doing nothing, by contrast, will result in an unsustainable population of nine billion by 2050.
The fix is simple. It's dramatic. And yet the world's leaders don't even have this on their agenda in Copenhagen. Instead there will be photo ops, posturing, optics, blah-blah-blah about climate science and climate fraud, announcements of giant wind farms, then cap-and-trade subsidies.
None will work unless a China one-child policy is imposed. Unfortunately, there are powerful opponents. Leaders of the world's big fundamentalist religions preach in favor of procreation and fiercely oppose birth control. And most political leaders in emerging economies perpetuate a disastrous Catch-22: Many children (i. e. sons) stave off hardship in the absence of a social safety net or economic development, which, in turn, prevents protections or development.
The only fix is if all countries drastically reduce their populations, clean up their messes and impose mandatory conservation measures.

Americans for Prosperity hosted a speech by Christopher Lord Monckton, a UK climate disruption denier, at Copenhagen yesterday. According to a report on the event at It’sGettingHotInHere.org, there were only five attendees that weren’t AFP employees – until around 50 US youth climate activists showed up, took over the stage, and proceeded to hold up signs and chant “Real Americans for Prosperity are Americans for Clean Energy” from the stage behind Monckton, who continued his speech despite the disruption.

Bangladesh, Myanmar, Honduras, Vietnam, Nicaragua. These are just a few of the countries already suffering deadly effects from climate change.
The five lead the list of the countries most affected by climate change since 1990, according the latest risk index from Germanwatch, an NGO focused "on the politics and economics of the North with their worldwide consequences."
For Myanmar and Honduras, single storms — Cyclone Nargis and Hurricane Mitch — bumped them up the list. But for countries like Bangladesh, extreme events have become a constant danger. Just last May, millions were displaced when Cyclone Aila hit the low-lying country.
Globally since 1990, more than 600,000 people have died as a direct result of extreme weather events, the sort that are expected to become increasingly common as the planet warms, Germanwatch concludes in its Global Climate Risk Index 2010. The findings, released on the sidelines of the UN’s climate conference in Copenhagen, relate directly to one of the most contentious issues of the talks — climate-related financial assistance from industrial countries to developing countries.

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/earth/copenhagen-climate-change-confe/6762640/Global-warming-caused-by-suns-radiation.html
Global warming is caused by radiation from the sun, according to a leading scientist speaking out at an alternative ‘sceptics conference’ in Copenhagen.
As the world gathered in the Danish capital for the UN Climate Change Conference, more than 50 scientists, businessmen and lobby groups met to discuss the arguments against man made global warming.
Although the meeting was considerably smaller than the official gathering of 15,000 people meeting down the road, the organisers claimed it could change the course of negotiations.
Professor Henrik Svensmark, a physicist at the Danish National Space Center in Copenhagen, said the recent warming period was caused by solar activity.
He said the last time the world experienced such high temperatures, during the medieval warming period, the Sun and the Earth were in a similar cycle.
Professor Nils-Axel Morner, a geologist from Stockholm University, said sea level rise has also been exaggerated by the “climate alarmists” using computer models.
He said observational data from lake sediments, coast lines and trees show sea levels have remained stable.
Professor Cliff Ollier, another geologist from the University of Western Australia, also said the environmental lobby have got it wrong on ice caps. He said the melting of ice sheets is caused by geothermal activity rather than global surface temperatures.
Professor Ian Plimer, from the University of Adelaide, claimed carbon dioxide from volcanoes rather than humans is driving warming as part of a natural process.
Graham Capper of Climate Sense said manmade global warming was a myth and scientists who said otherwise were lying. :
"There are people who know they are lying and do it simply for money and others who think they are doing good," he said. "But they not good scientists."
The Sun has cycles and seasons just like the Earth. Remember, the Solar System is a Heliocentric Model. Earth is subject to the Sun's behaviors and there's nothing we can do about it, no matter how many times Al Gore tells you the sky is falling.http://www.telegraph.co.uk/earth/copenhagen-climate-change-confe/6762640/Global-warming... more

http://www.reuters.com/article/idUSTRE5B21BK20091203
LONDON (Reuters) - The planet would be better off if the forthcoming Copenhagen climate change talks ended in collapse, according to a leading U.S. scientist who helped alert the world to dangers of global warming.
Any agreement likely to emerge from the negotiations would be so deeply flawed, said James Hansen, that it would be better for future generations if we were to start again from scratch.
"I would rather it not happen if people accept that as being the right track because it's a disaster track," Hansen, who heads the NASA Goddard Institute for Space Studies in New York, told the Guardian newspaper.
"The whole approach is so fundamentally wrong that it is better to reassess the situation. If it is going to be the Kyoto-type thing then will spend years trying to determine exactly what that means."
Hansen is strongly opposed to carbon market schemes, in which permits to pollute are bought and sold, seen by the European Union and other governments as the most efficient way to cut emissions and move to a new clean energy economy.
Hansen opposes U.S. President Barack Obama's plans for a cap and trade system for carbon emissions in the United States, preferring a tax on energy use.
Tackling climate change does not allow room for the compromises that govern the world of politics, Hansen said.
"This is analogous to the issue of slavery faced by Abraham Lincoln or the issue of Nazism faced by Winston Churchill," he said. "On those kind of issues you cannot compromise. You can't say let's reduce slavery, let's find a compromise and reduce it 50 percent or reduce it 40 percent."
"We don't have a leader who is able to grasp it and say what is really needed," he added.http://www.reuters.com/article/idUSTRE5B21BK20091203
