The sale of Adolf Hitler's family home in the Austrian town of Braunau am Inn has triggered concern that it could become a shrine for Nazi sympathisers.
The unassuming house where Hitler was born in 1889 has been put on the market priced at 2.2m euros (£1.9m; $3.3m).
Residents and local politicians fear that the property could fall into the hands of far-right extremists.
Braunau's mayor Gerhard Skiba wants to prevent that happening, but the council does not have the funds to buy it.
The building is currently used by an organisation helping the disabled and has at various times in its history housed a library, bank and technical institute.
Some historians have suggested turning the building into a museum.
However Mr Skiba vigorously opposes the idea, saying it would encourage people from all over the world to visit the site.
For the time being, the only reminder of the building's infamous past is a small memorial dedicated to the victims of the Nazis. The sale of Adolf Hitler's family home in the Austrian town of Braunau am Inn has... more

Palestine: It’s HELL / John Reese, Kristen Ess

Palestine: It's HELL
John Reese
As I sit here in my office there are guns and explosions going off around me. Bethlehem is being re-re-re-re-invaded and more houses are, once again, threatened to be blown up by the Israeli Occupation Force. Three homes were blown up yesterday and five more today. Nablus is under curfew with more houses occupied then any time in the 6 months that I have been here (somewhere around 50 homes). Gaza is recovering from its latest bombing attack. Twelve homes where we were hoping to get people (if we had enough) have all been blown up. Five people were killed in Tulkarem on Thursday including one 12 year-old boy. Yesterday morning a friend of mine was shot in the leg by the IOF in Jenin refugee camp when she went to check on children being shot at by the IOF. An hour earlier an 11 year-old child had been shot and killed. And all the usual continues - the property confiscation, the beatings, the restrictions on travel, the humiliating treatment at checkpoints, etc....
As I prepare to leave Palestine and begin my tour in the US I only hope that as I go from city to city I can light some fire in people. Perhaps something that I say or pictures that I show will motivate people to come here. At the same time I wonder why on earth would anyone want to come here? It is, as my soon to be seventh month of being here can attest, HELL here. I have smelled death, seen the injured, been shot at, seen people kicked and beaten and seen the bodies of those killed. I have lived with sewage, piles of garbage, drank and bathed in contaminated water, been shoved and attacked by soldiers, been harassed and suffered their attempts at humiliation directed at me. Mostly though I have felt helpless - helpless as I hear the stories of humiliation, beatings, death and destruction.
I do have hopes though. I hope that the nonviolent direct action movement expands - both within the Palestinians and in the number of internationals that come. I believe that Palestine is ripe for a nonviolent direct action movement. I can see it slowly growing and there is hope it will get bigger and more organized - and of course more effective. It is these hopes that motivates me to return here after my tour of the US. I truly believe that we can make a difference here.
I have no doubt that our presence here has reduced the number of homes destroyed, the children beaten and the people killed. We have helped children get to school, taken food to those in occupied homes, made sure that water could be transported to those villages without, ridden in ambulances, and escorted sick and elderly across checkpoints. None of this would have happened without an international presence. Had we not been here quite the contrary would have happened.
It is not really that anyone would WANT to come here. They havePalestine: It’s HELL / John Reese, Kristen Ess

In 2005, the guys on MythBusters brought us the first recorded and confirmed proof that an unamplified voice can break glass. Rock singer and vocal coach Jamie Vendera had the right frequency (556 Hz) and, after 20 attempts, worked up the volume (105 decibels) needed to needed to shatter a glass. When Rachel put this on and I listened I was sicken about the plot to KILL Dr. Tiller one of the few doctors that perform late term abortion. He was killed while he was in church. How ironic these terrorist killing in a church in front of everybody. Now he is being talked about as a hero. he is murderer pure and simple. I read the letter that is on the Army of God website and was not so shocked by the fact that they cadone this type of things, killing in the name of their God. Do people think that it's an easy thing to go through the procedure HELL NO! Neither is just getting an regular 1st term one or a 2nd term. Most women don't use it like birth control "thats what the Army says" It is a legal procedure under Roe v Wade. They want women who deside to do so as whores and they deserve to die with a hanger up us. We will not go back to the 60's

As a woman I was horrified about the reaction of BILL'O about the Doctor Tiller who performed late term abortions. It is not an easy thing for these women that chooose to do a late term abortion. But BILL'O trys to insite the killing of this Doctor. He justifies the action of the killer. And says the Doctor deserved to be killed. I just wish this could only feel what a woman is going through this procedure. Him and the leader of the Anti-Choice whats so weird is the leader of the Anti-Choice group is a Man he will never know. Roe v Wade we have a choice we don't want to have to going to back alleys with coat hangers up us to not be pregnant. Just "don't have sex its that easy" try being raped then come and preach to me!As a woman I was horrified about the reaction of BILL'O about the Doctor Tiller... more
