Twitter, Hypercapitalism, and just when you thought it was all to much, along comes Sarah Palin.
As NCFT prepares a full launch in January of 2010, The Hermit with Davis Fleetwood looks back and bestows some honors for the best in what was the worst decade ever. A decade that saw the Bush doctrine rolled out, Capitalism went on steroids and then crashed in an ugly way, China emerges as the #1 world economic superpower, music- sweet music, natural disasters, and oh yes: the United States of America elected an African American President. All of these stories captured our attention this decade. Was it, as Time magazine declared recently, THE DECADE FROM HELL? Take a gander at The Hermit with Davis Fleetwood Top Ten News Stories of the Decade and decide for yourself.
What stories did we miss? Leave your comments below and share this with your people.

Dear Michael Moore,
I, like you, want American troops out of Afghanistan now. Unlike you, I am not a pandering ass hat bag of douche stumbling through the age of Obama in a desperate search for a spine. You jellyfish.
Perhaps that is too broad. You have done much in your public career worthy of commendation.
In fact, you can call me a fan. Fahrenheit 9/11 and Bowling for Columbine made me weep like a menopausal hairdresser curled up on her couch with a gaggle of cats watching a double feature of Sophie’s Choice and Terms of Endearment.
I mean I just melted.
So let me narrow the scope of my criticism to the content and tone of your recent open letter to Obama, which you posted on your website a day before Obama became the “new war president” by announcing that he was increasing troop levels in Afghanistan.
You write:
With our economic collapse still in full swing and our precious young men and women being sacrificed on the altar of arrogance and greed, the breakdown of this great civilization we call America will head, full throttle, into oblivion if you become the “war president.” Empires never think the end is near, until the end is here. Empires think that more evil will force the heathens to toe the line — and yet it never works. The heathens usually tear them to shreds.
Choose carefully, President Obama.
Well said. I particularly appreciate the efficient dig at both capitalism and religion in the phrase “being sacrificed at the alter of arrogance and greed.” You understand it is the mix capitalism and religion- and the high pedestal that they occupy in our society- that are the two main reasons for the Obama Doctrine: which can now undeniably be described as the Bush doctrine delivered by a more handsome orator with the deft application of a thesaurus.
But that your open letter betrays what you seem to pass off as an honest shock that the United States will continue the path we have been on since 9/11- one of pre-emption and prevention as just causes for war- a policy that all but guarantees a world of perpetual war- is in itself shocking.
Could it be that you speak for all the liberals and progressives who thought, no: strategized, during the election that we should do whatever we could to get a Democrat in office- no matter what their qualifications or positions on the issues, so long as they were electable- and that the progressive movement could then “hold Obama’s feet to the fire?”
And you said it like you believed it. So bloodied and bruised from eight years with Bush that this was the best you came up with.
Yes, Michael, I too want now, and have wanted, to see the United States reverse a homicidal foreign policy that seemed to accept an Armageddon as a given and only wants to declared king of the hill when the game was over. So I dropped everything I was doing, gave up a comfortable job, and in 2007, went to work for peanuts, employed by the Kucinich Campaign. I worked for his media team. It was not a high-powered operation, like Obama’s. So, I had a front row seat for the disappointment Dennis felt when you chose NOT to endorse him. Happy you were to endorse his HR 676 as a cross promotion for your film SICKO.
Again, great movie. You had me weeping like-
Speaking of Shirley McClain: her endorsement of Dennis Kucinich and the UFO associations during the Presidential Primaries did little to help elect one man who would have saved you the time of writing such a letter, no to mention the countless lives that will be “sacrificed at the alter of arrogance and greed.”
And then wasn’t that you, during the general election, humiliating Ralph Nader on the Bill Maher show bill literally getting down on your knees and begging him not to run for President, fueling the myth that it was Nader, and not an election hijacked by the courts, not another Jellyfish- Al Gore, who handed the White House to Bush in 2000?
Not that your endorsement of Kucinich or Nader would have changed the outcome. I’m not that naïve. But you would have been one more person voting their conscience instead of playing politics. And until enough of us do the former, we will continue to sacrifice lives at the alter of arrogance and greed.
And this reality is what merits our shock. Our disgusted, horrified awe.Dear Michael Moore,
