Has Eminem made a Recovery with his latest?
The music that is anticipated of someone with Eminem's reputation has to be at the least powerful, or some would call it angry. There is nothing wrong with making music that's completely different from a previous album, actually I like that. But because Eminem felt that he had a lot of left over tracks and maybe anger that he can just pump into one album for old times' sake, he came out with Recovery. The album is a "comeback" in the sense that it really brings back his anger, hate, and energy toward things he has talked about...

Drake Thank Me Later Album Review
In terms of buzz and marketability, there hasnt been a hip hop artist like Drake since 50 Cent, and we all know just how popular 50's debut classic was. In the confidently titled Thank Me Later debut of Drake, we are offered more of Aubrey Graham's autobiographical and eclectically R & B tinged musical offerings and I must say-he doesnt disappoint. True to his word, Drake's debut album Thank Me Later plays almost like a verbal memoir of sorts, covering subjects from his abrupt rise to fame, the woe associated with stardom, relationship problems and family issues. Whereas most rappers generally seemed forced when making boastful statements, surprisingly Drake seems rather sincere when speaking on subjects such as women, money, and the music industry at large.
Thank Me Later opens up with "fireworks" rather literally. The intro tracked co-produced by extremely popular German producer Crada and Drake's longtime producer Noah "40" Shebib features both Drake and Alicia Keys on the hook as Drake speaks on his main subjects of impending stardom, heartache, and longing for love.
Next in line comes "Karaoke", a keyboard accompanied track produced by the band "Francis and The Lights". As has become a natural characteristic of Drake's music, it seems as if he is speaking face to face to the unnamed female subject of the track. Whereas most artists choose to relay stories in third person, Drake meets subjects head on in first person which adds to the sincerity of his musings.
After a sultry R&B track and a "pop" sounding song, Drake offers the emotionally laced "The Resistance", within which he states "I heard they just moved my grandma to a nursing home/ and I be acting like I dont know how to work a phone/ but hit redial and you'll see I just called some chick i just met at the mall/ that I barely know at all/ plus this woman I messed with unprotected/ text me saying she wished she had of kept it/ the one I'm laying next to looked over and read it/.
After taking a second to reminisce on life experiences, Drake jumps right into the album's first single "Over", the catchy single he uses as a vehicle to prophetically proclaim his impending longevity within the hip hop industry. Following "Over" comes up the funky, Euro sounding and piano accompanied Kanye produced track "Show Me A Good Time". This track once again has Drake visiting his oft repeated themes of unexpected success, women, and living his new found life.
"Up All Night" offers the first rap feature of the album, courtesy of Mrs. Barbie herself and fellow Young Money label mate-Nicki Minaj. The track features Drake on the hook, something he does quite frequently and effortlessly without making it sound overdone. Nicki offers a pretty good verse while sounding eerily like a mid 90's Lil Kim. Halfway through the album we are greeted by recently released T.I. on the Swizz Beatz produced "Fancy". On the mellow song we are offered a solid guest spot by T.I., while drake brings his own brand of wittiness to the ode to "fancy girls" in order to prevent from being out shined by the "king of the south".
The second singing collabo of the album takes place next on the Omen and 40 produced "Shut It Down" as Drake and The Dream come together to bring the album its obligatory slow jam. As is the case with "Fireworks", Drake sings the hook as well as offers a rap verse to make for a good R&B track although it seems as if The Dream went out of his way to make the track his own.
Drake brings the corporate thug himself to the Aaliyah sampled "unforgettable" as Drake speaks on relationships and Jeezy slows it down a bit to offer his unique personification of the Trap game.
Light Up brings with it easily the most anticipated collabo of the album, that of the "God MC" himself Jay Z. Drake again touches on his newly acquired life, seemingly approving and critiquing it simultaneously before Jay offers up "triple entendres" on a relatively short verse. Whether Drake brought his lyrical "A" game or Hov took it easy on the clean cut newcomer is debatable but Drake clearly holds his own against Mr. Carter. The inevitable Drake/Lil wayne collaboration and third single follows next with Drake relaying an energetic and cocky verse as Wayne breezes through one of the best verses on the album although he stops short of completely out shining Drizzy on "Miss Me".
Following up on "Bria's Interlude" from So Far Gone comes "Cece's Interlude", where he again seems to be speaking directly to "CeCe" about topics ranging from his success, their relationship, and night time endeavors while guitar riffs play in the background. "Find Your Love", the second single of the album is in and of itself a good track but sounds like something crafted for Chris Brown and given to Drake to add more potential radio presence to the album. The album is brought to an end on the Timbaland produced "Thank Me Now", Drake's cocky self proclamation to "living out a dream" and officially putting his mark on the industry while simultaneously accepting un named kudos from "everyone".
With the buzz and popularity of 50 Cent and the musical sincerity of Kanye West, it seems only fitting that Thank Me Later is the best debut album from a hip hop artists since the previously mentioned two artists. Although the tracklisting alone would make one expect Drake to get drowned out of his own album, he employs a creative tactic of singing on nearly every hook to ensure his prominence as well as standing toe to toe with Jeezy, Jay Z,T.I, Lil Wayne and Nicki Minaj lyrically and Alicia Keys and The Dream from an R&B standpoint. Furthermore, with production credits from the likes of Kanye, Swizz Beatz, Timbaland, No ID, 40, and Boi 1Da among others, Drake is able to use a relatively short tracklisting full of good beats to make the album thoroughly enjoyable. Although the album is ground breaking by no means, it is thoroughly entertaining and a breath of fresh air in an industry being submerged in drug laden ballads to illegal activities and unsubstantiated claims of uber wealth. Drake isnt the best in the game lyrically and needs to expand his subject matter in the future but he is surely staking his claim to own some market share of the game for years to come.
4/5

Drake Confirms Cameos By Lil Wayne, Jay Z, and Kanye on Thank Me Later
Young Money's Drake recently talked about his upcoming Thank Me Later album and confirmed guest appearances by Jay-Z, Lil Wayne and Kanye West will be featured on the debut. Drake also said his track with Wayne is relevant to the rapper's current incarceration in Rikers Island.
"I got a great song with Lil Wayne and I'm excited because it's very relevant to what's going on with him right now," Drake said in an interview. "I got a great song with Jay-Z. Kanye West did some great stuff on there. I can't give [my ladies themed song] away yet, it's my secret." (Much Music)
In a prior interview, Drake revealed that his song with Wayne is called "Miss Me."
"That's actually a Lil Wayne song," he explained in an interview referring to "Afrika Bambaataa." "I don't know where that confusion came from. I was just on set that day when he was shooting that video. That's not even my song. I'm not even on it, to be honest with you. Me and Wayne have a song on my album -- a song called 'Miss Me.' It's a pretty straightforward [song]. It's a song about being away from what you love and hoping that when you're gone, doing you, somebody out there misses you. It goes for Wayne in his situation and it goes for me in my situation, 'cause I'm on the road for I don't how long right now." (MTV)
Last week, Drake confirmed his album's new release date and discussed a possible movie career.
"The album comes out on June 15th," Drake confirmed in an interview. "It was really just about me getting into the right creative head space and delivering a first album that people could all appreciate. So, I think I got it now. Yeah, June 15th, I'm excited...Television is sort of an exhausting, repetitive format to be in but I'm definitely, like after this album and I have another project I have in mind that I want to do but after that I'll probably get back into some movies, yeah. I'm excited to do movies again. I like being on set." (Music On Campus)
Producer Swizz Beatz recently talked about working with the rapper on his debut.
"The collaboration with me and Drake, expect the unexpected," Beatz said in an interview. "It's not something you can predict. Both of the joints are not something that you can predict. It's like a very unique combination and he's a very unique artist so it's like when you get somebody that's open-minded, they don't want something that I already did or compare it to something that I already have on the radio which made it a very clear lane for me and Drake to collaborate the records that we did. The features on the track? It's crazy. You're gonna be like, 'What? Who? When? Why? How?'" (Rap-Up)

Drake Reportedly Using A Vocal Coach For Thank Me Later Album
Two weeks ago, the Internet lit up at the sight of a leaked track from Drake’s anticipated debut, Thank Me Later. “Shut It Down,” a So Far Gone-lite record featuring The-Dream, was reported in September as Drake’s official lead single before any word of “Over” had surfaced.
While the overall response to “Shut It Down” was more than favorable, Stadiumred producer Omen, who worked on the track with Drake’s right-hand 40, told VIBE that version heard on the Net had a few elements absent.
“['Shut It Down'] is still missing some ingredients. It’s missing a full Dream verse and a full rap verse from Drake,” he says. “The leaked version wasn’t the way it was supposed to be presented. It was just something that caught on so quickly… I don’t know how the hell radio got it. Drake’s [rap verse is] basically playing around with the song’s concept more, not really telling a story, but just talking to the ladies.”
Omen also revealed that “Shut It Down” was the first song Drake recorded for Thank Me Later in the early fall. Though he’s still unsure whether other tracks he co-produced with 40 made the final cut, from what Omen’s heard of the album, he says fans can expect more hip-hop than heard on the mixtape that made Drake famous.
“It’s more rapping than So Far Gone… a lot more rapping. Even if he is singing it’s just the chorus. 'Shut It Down' has probably the most singing on the album and then he has another one with a Sade vibe that’s dope,” he says. “He’s definitely improving his singing too. He just hired a vocal coach that he’s working with during The Away From Home Tour. This is going to be one of the top hip-hop/R&B albums out this year. I can feel it.”
The 33-year-old Harlem producer added that he spoke too soon about “Shut It Down” being Drake’s first single.
“I jumped the gun [Laughs]. What happened is everyone was real excited and saying this is the single, but you know how the industry works, when an album’s being recorded there’s always going to be other producers that bring something different,” he continues. “It still was a very good song to be in the single contention. It could be second, could be third. I’m not sure which, but I’m sure it’s going to be a single."
Omen first worked with Drake in 2008 on the track, “Overdose On Life,” off Drake’s second mixtape, Comeback Season. Drake’s major label debut, Thank Me Later is scheduled for release on June 15. —Tracy Garraud (XXL)Two weeks ago, the Internet lit up at the sight of a leaked track from Drake’s... more-

Drake's Thank Me Later Pushed Back To June 15th
Drake's Thank Me Later Pushed Back To June 15th
Monday night (April 5) is a big one for Drake. The 23-year-old performer is opening his Away From Home Tour at Slippery Rock University and is set to take the stage around 9 p.m. ET.
Talking to MTV News earlier in the evening, the Young Money franchise player revealed the release date for his much-anticipated debut LP, Thank Me Later: June 15.
The date isn't the only gem the "Best I Ever Had" rapper and two-time Grammy nominee dropped. He also revealed that he'll be performing a new song from his album on tour called "Fireworks."
So far, Drake has released one single from the upcoming album: "Over." "We took a trip to Jamaica, where I did a lot of work for my album," he told us on the "Over" video set last month. "There was this calm before the storm, and 'Over' represented the storm to me. It's the moment. I wanted to emerge at first from this album and just let people know 'This is how I'm coming out in the public eye. I'm ready for anything.' Then when you get the album, it's like, 'Oh, he's still human. He's still thinking the same way.' I wanted people to understand I could have lost it. 'Over' could have been my entire album. Just 'cause that's what this industry and game will do to you if you lose yourself."
Drake's Away From Home Tour goes on for the next couple of months with openers Francis and the Lights and K-os. "They're killing it right now," Drake said shortly after taking in Francis and the Lights' set on Monday.(MTV)
"It's a musical experience, it's about a mood," he says. "Women can come out and feel sexy. It's gonna be good. I picked the show that I would be at, you know? I don't know how people are gonna receive it. I hope that they come to my tour with an open mind, because it's not me and Pleasure P and Trey Songz. It's not what people would necessarily expect. It's not the tour that's based around hip-hop or R&B music. To me it's based around refreshing sounds." (Rolling Stone)
"The sun just came out," he wrote on a blog last week. "I mean I haven't seen it yet cause I am in the studio but I know it did. So good morning," he wrote Wednesnday (March 31). "I am working on the last song for Thank Me Later. What a different journey it's been this go round. I wish I could share so much more with you but there are just too many new people involved who have dedicated their time to 'the reveal.'" Drake Announces He Is Nearly Finished With Thank Me Later
Writing on his October's Very Own blog, Drake said the solo effort's final song is being completed.
"The sun just came out. I mean I haven't seen it yet cause I am in the studio but I know it did. So good morning," he wrote Wednesnday (March 31). "I am working on the last song for Thank Me Later. What a different journey it's been this go round. I wish I could share so much more with you but there are just too many new people involved who have dedicated their time to "the reveal". Should I just post the entire thing up now and say no the methods and yes to the mayhem???? Ha. I'd love too, but this is something special that I feel needs to be delivered to you in the way you deserve it to be. Remember the days of well thought out visuals, album thank you's, funk flex rants, all the things that came with the release of a new album, the things we'd look forward to...well I hope I can make you remember. I've worked hard on this body of work and I feel like every artist involved has given me their absolute best. I cannot wait till it's yours. The relief I will experience on release day will be euphoric. I look in peoples eyes and see not so much the doubt, but the uncertainty, the question that looms...and whatever the answer is I think we're both ready for it. These overwhelming moments are to be cherished. On that note fond readers, I will see u soon somewhere along the way. Mr. Walters pull the car around front...its time to go home." (October's Very Own)
The album will reportedly be released in late May.
It's official. The most anticipated hip-hop album of the year finally has a release date. Drake's debut Thank Me Later will arrive on May 25, Rap-Up.com has learned. Drake will travel across the country performing material from the album on his first headlining trek, "The Away From Home Tour," kicking off April 9 at Penn State University, and wrapping in Houston on May 20, a few days before the record's release. (Rap-Up)
Earlier this month, Drake's "Shut It Down" duet record leaked online.
A new song by Drake featuring The-Dream is leaked. Titled "Shut It Down", the piece is produced by Noah "40" Shebib and Omen who also co-produced Alicia Keys' duet track with Drake, "Un-thinkable (I'm Ready)". The slow-jam song is reportedly not the final version but has been confirmed to be listed in the Canadian rapper's debut album "Thank Me Later". (Ace Show Biz)
The rapper recently talked about Jay-Z's "Light It Up" guest spot that will be featured on the album.
"It's just me and Jay both rapping on it for an extended period of time," Drake said in an interview. "It's real rap. It's real rap. I do sing on it, but it's just on the hook -- but it's rap. It's great. The perspective, the dynamic on the track -- it's me and Jay's relationship on the song, basically. When you hear it, people will be like, 'Oh man.' That's how we are -- just the two. He definitely has guided me a lot, as far as his words and his advice. We have a real funny rapport. I always enjoy my conversations with Jay. It's good." Rolling Stone initially reported that the project would be released on an unknown date in May.
Drake's LP is a reflection of how the upstart Toronto MC has become hip-hop's new leading man. "I tried to capture every great moment I've had in the last year," he says. "It's triumphant." To wit: He raps about a presumed love affair with Rihanna and his friendship with mentor Lil Wayne on "Fireworks." Drake Explains "Light It Up" Collabo With Jay Z
Young Money's Drake has opened up about, "Light It Up," his collaboration with Jay-Z from his upcoming Thank Me Later debut album.
According to the Canadian-bred emcee, he will also be singing on the Jay-featured record.
It's good." (MTV)
Last December, Drake said he had begun working on the song.
"I actually did the record with Jay-Z last night," Drake revealed in an interview. "It's crazy, I'm really really excited about it. I hope he likes it, I just did it and I'ma shoot it to him and I hope he likes it. But it's crazy. It's actually produced by, well, the one that I want him on, produced by this dude from Toronto -- it is nice. It's a special, special record because at first I was like, 'I don't know what kinda hook I'ma do,' I really wanted to make this rap record and I managed to get this rap with a crazy chorus in the lane of like a 'Forever' but not really. It's like that type of triumphant feel though. I'm excited. The record is called 'Light It Up.'" (Rap-Up)
Universal Music reportedly previewed a portion of the album earlier this month.
1) There's a song on the disc called "Fireworks" that has the greatest beat ever. Drake has this sidekick producer called 40, and he's talented. I met him as well this afternoon and he's also a good kid. He's about to be very, very busy. "Fireworks" has a hook on it courtesy of Kings of Leon. It's catchy. 2) There is a Kanye West-produced track on the album that comes with a story. The track was made by Kanye for Beyonce, but Drake really wanted it so he wrote her a handwritten letter asking if he could use it. She read it and thought it was sweet and e-mailed him to give her permission. It's a great track. 3) There's a Jay-Z/Drake track that he played for us - minus Jay's verse. Jay-Z doesn't let anyone hear his stuff before it comes out. Drake claims it is the greatest verse Jay's ever done. 4) I think the final track on the album is called "Thank Me Now" or something. He played us a recorded verse then did another one live and it was one of the best. Really cool. 5) He sings on a bunch of tracks on the album. 6) This Saturday Drake will be in L.A. doing a track with Dr. Dre and Eminem. 7) Yes, there is a Timbaland beat on the album." (Winnipeg Free Press)

Drake To Record Track with Eminem and Dr. Dre on Saturday
In Toronto this afternoon (March 12th) a few guys got an invite from Universal Music to meet Drake and listen to some new tracks from his soon–to–be–released album. "It sounds like a monster to me," says Ace Burpee. "It was really good stuff. And Drake is a nice kid. Here’s what I can tell you…"
