I recently went and saw Pretty Lights on New Years Eve in Chicago. He has a style like no other. Often compared to down tempo artists such as RJD2 & DJ Shadow, he has been a pioneering figure in this music genre . Born Derek Vincent Smith, and coming from Colorado, has made a certain sound for himself. I would definitely say he has a healthy following too. If you enjoy hip hop it is hard not to get sucked into his world of digital sampling backed with ambient, swirling, funky sounds, and a steady hip hop beat. The beat is often played live by a steady handed drummer named Cory Eberhard.
