This coming autumn a new peak time BBC2 TV series, Melvyn Bragg's Reel History of Britain, will tell the story of Britain's social history through archive film. Running off the back of the programme the BBC Learning 'Reel History' Archive Partners will be screening a special event in Oxford on the 2nd October 2011.
Oxford Filmmaker Sharon Wooward and her Award wining documentary 'Thank You Skinhead Girl' will be screened at The Phoenix Cinema as part of the project. The day will show the important relationship between archived film and an awareness of local and regional history.

Skinhead Girl' is to be screened at
9th International Filmmor Women's Film Festival on Wheels on the 16th&
18th March Istanbul / Turkey

becoming a skinhead during 1979 - 83. It takes a look at the Oxfordshire
Skinhead scene from 1969 - 1989.
Features music by Reggae legends the Symarip, local Oxford Ska band, The
Inflatables and Welsh, Oi! band The Oppressed.
Supported by OFVM - Film Oxford Production Award and Enabled by Screen
South Community Projects Award.
Thank You Skinhead Girl is scheduled to be released next year in Germany
as part of a double feature DVD.

'Thank You Skinhead Girl' the 45 minute documentary completed in April
2009, continues to go from strength to strength both Nationally and
Internationally.
The film made by local Oxford Filmmaker Sharon Woodward is to be
screened on the 30th January at the 6th 7Island International film
festival.
The filmmaker was personally invited to enter 'Thank You Skinhead Girl'
by BanKim BomBay Honorary Director of the festival that has a mission of
Non-Violent Resistance, Global Disarmament, Human Rights & Peace. The
festival felt that the subject of misplace violence was an ideal subject
to raise these important issues.

'Thank You Skinhead Girl' is a 45 minute documentary by Sharon Woodward who is a filmmaker from Oxfordshire. Sharon was inspired to make the film about her own experience of being a skinhead after she had seen Shane Meadows 'This Is England' and read Gavin Watson's blogs -Oh what fun we had?
Thank You Skinhead Girl has been screened both Nationally and Internationally at many Film Festivals throughout the world and has received both an award for 'Best Documentary' film at the 8th Palace Festival, Bulgaria 2010 and Nomination for 'Best Film' at the Potobello Film Festival, London 2009

12th Madurai International Documentary and Short Film Festival 2010
Special features
1) Retrospective section: Renowned film makers Saba Dewan and Rahul Roy will be felicitated during the festival under the retrospective section. Their best films (5 each) will be screened. They will be present on 7,8,9 December to present their films and take part in the discussion following the screenings.
2) Country Package: short films from first timers of Burundi (Africa) presented by Burundi Film Centre – Canada, curated by Paul Lee, film maker from Canada.
3) Special package of documentaries from South Korea courtesy Magic Lantern Foundation and the Asian Network for Documentary, Pusan International Film Festival.
4) Competition for Tamil films on people’s struggles and human rights for SARAT CHANDRAN MEMORIAL AWARD (cash awards and certificates)
5) Short documentaries produced by the trainees of Video Volunteers.

Oxford Filmmaker Sharon Woodward’s film ‘Thank You Skinhead Girl’ picked up the award for ‘Best Documentary’ at the 8th International Film Palace Festival

Following successful screenings at Falstaff International Film Festival and the Portobello International Film Festival where Thank You Skinhead Girl was nominated for ‘Best Film’ Woodward’s documentary has been going from strength to strength, and this week was shown at the Italian San Lorenzo festival on the 1st July. ....
However, it was at the Balchik, 8th International Short Film Festival in Bulgaria that awarded the film ‘Best Documentary’.
The film explores the filmmakers own experience of being in care and becoming a skinhead during 1979 - 83. It takes a look at the Oxfordshire Skinhead scene from 1969 - 1989....
The film was supported by Film Oxford (OFVM) Production Award and enabled by the Community Grant award from Screen South.
The film Features music by Reggae legends the Symarip, local Oxford Ska band The Inflatables and Welsh Oi! band The Oppressed.

The award for Best Documentary Film went to “Thank you skinhead girl” represented by its director Sharon Woodward.
The award for Best Television Film was given to the journalist Genka Shikerova and the DOP Boris Pintev for the BTV series “Gardens of Concrete”.
