Remember when we told you that senior Textile Design students, Kenzi Klein and Jana Yee were selected to attend Surtex designext Competition in New York? Well — the two of them did pretty well — nay — they did very well.
For the challenge, Kenzi, Jana, along with two other designers created six to nine original surface designs for fabrics, wall coverings, floor coverings, and accessories to be used in a residential interior in the year 2015. The entries were judged by a panel of esteemed judges — one of the being fashion/interior designer, Todd Oldham.
Jana’s concept, “Vitality Blooms” got her the grand prize of $1,000 as well as getting in the good graces of the judges.

The Academy of Art University’s fashion week passed in a blur of events, all of which I carefully blocked out on my semi-tacky Anne Taintor calendar. As I reflect on the week over a pot of coffee and spoonfuls of Nutella, I’m starting to realize that it’s the sweet, small moments that count.
The biggest of the “small” moments was participating in a roundtable discussion with Suzy Menkes and 5 of my fellow journalism students on Wednesday morning. Suzy’s engaging verbal command makes it feel like every word she divulges is an intimate secret. One of those secrets was that Madonna has been reading Suzy’s book The Windsor Style in preparation for an upcoming movie role as the Duchess of Windsor. Thank goodness I snatched the out-of-print book from the library before Gladys Perint Palmer shared our “secret” with the rest of the School of Fashion.

Dear Marc,
I am a big fan of yours. I adore your taste level. However, I do wish I was old enough to see that infamous grunge collection that got you fired from Perry Ellis. I was only two years old when that happened.
Nonetheless, I love the way you promote yourself to the mainstream. You are the only fashion designer who made it to Time Magazine’s 100 Most Influential People — right under Sit Elton John in the “Artist” section.

Valerie Elizabeth of Society Stylist reached out to the School of Fashion for the April 8th “Rock The Runway” fashion show by the Junior League of Dallas. Designers were asked to decorate or re-design canvas tote bags for the silent auction that night and Jaleh Naasz 2006 MFA Fashion Design alumna and Noah Landis 2006 BFA Men’s Wear Design alumnus both participated.
To go in line with his line, Kent Denim, Noah created a large denim bag with the original tote as a pocket inside.

I finally finished my 20-page brand makeover report on Abercrombie & Fitch. Midterms are completed and I have started to pack for my shoot in Los Angeles! I’m looking forward to the sunshine and another opportunity to improve my skills in front of the camera. This could be my chance to land a quality editorial!
In San Francisco, modeling has been picking up and I should be pretty busy for the next few weeks. My agent contacted me with the opportunity to work on a project for Macy’s in Union Square. I like booking the long-term jobs, because I’m able to get to know the client better. A client like Macy’s is a great one to get to know, the relationship could lead to booking more jobs with them.
