Ted Kennedy's Senate seat may fall to Republicans after more than fifty years of Democrats holding the seat -- Democratic control of Kennedy's Massachusetts Senate seat dates back to 1953, when the elder John F. Kennedy held the position.
According to the latest Public Policy poll, Republican state senator Scott Brown is up by five points, 51-46 percent. The poll notes that the lead is within the margin of error but reflects other recent polls showing Brown has a slim lead over Democratic state attorney general Martha Coakley.
Brown leads among independents, crucial to a Republican victory in Massachusetts, where registered Democrats hold a 3-1 edge over registered Republicans. The poll notes, however, that "Democratic leaning voters have started to take more interest in the election, a trend that if it continues in the final 36 hours of the campaign could put her over the finish line."Ted Kennedy's Senate seat may fall to Republicans after more than fifty years of... more

The big news here isn’t so much that a heckler appeared at a Coakley rally – with passions this high, it would have been news if one hadn’t – but that a series of hecklers threw Obama so far off his stride. It didn’t matter to the people who attended this rally, of course, but it’s a bit strange to see an experienced politician allow a couple of loud voices to interrupt for as long as this goes … and then to ask “Where were we?”

YPNation contributor Ewan Watt offers his take on the upcoming Massachusetts Senate race, and what the future could hold for the GOP:
"After getting trounced by the Democrats in the last two rounds of elections, the Republicans were hardly anxious to get campaigning for 2010. In fact, after the health care debacle most Republicans with whom I spoke expected further Democratic gains in both the House and the Senate. It's quite hard to fathom that these very same individuals are thinking the unthinkable--the prospect of seizing back both Houses.
Like Michael Steele (depending on which day of the week you ask him), I find this a little far fetched. But I do expect millions of Americans to vote GOP because of an uneasiness with single party government. It was disastrous under President Bush, and no better under his successor."

McCormack, in his account of the incident published on the conservative magazine’s Web site, wrote that he had been trying to ask Coakley about a remark she’d made in a debate with Republican opponent Scott Brown in which she said there are no terrorists in Afghanistan and they’re all in Pakistan and Yemen.

McCormack said Coakley blew him off, and then he followed her for a few blocks until he was shoved by Meehan, who had attended the fundraiser and worked previously on a Democratic opponent of Coakley in the primary.
“I ended up on the sidewalk. I was fine,” McCormack wrote in the Weekly Standard. “He helped me up from the ground, but kept pushing up against me, blocking my path toward Coakley down the street.”McCormack, in his account of the incident published on the conservative... more
