In efforts to capture this new audience, FFRW announced it would extend the date of their contest.
The new deadline will be extended to November 16. 2012. Submissions must be 500 words or less. Entries must be submitted by email to: ffrwreservations@gmail.com. I just saw the movie “2016: Obama’s America” and I thought it was the most ignorant xenophobic piece of propaganda I have ever seen. There are so many ignorant comments in this movie that I cannot understand why D'Souza is called a scholar. Throughout the movie he flings baseless accusations at President Obama for being anti-colonialist, but I would like to know how this movie is going to play in India, D'Souza's birthplace, where colonialism is still a recent memory and a very sore topic. As it has been throughout history in most of the countries in the world.
One of his many ignorant comments comes while he’s trying to explain the evil and the roots of President Obama’s alleged anti-colonialism and D’Souza refers to black people in America as indigenous. Really? You’d think a scholar from India would know the meaning of that word since it’s basically the name of his country. I’ve never seen a dictionary that defines indigenous as being violently kidnapped from your birth country, your family and your culture, and being transported in chains, against your will, whipped and starved for months while forced to row yourself across an ocean towards an unknown land where, if you survived the gruesome journey, you’d be sold into a hellish nightmare to be held prisoner under subhuman conditions and exploited as a slave with less rights than cattle. That is not indigenous. Indigenous is not something you become. You, and your people, either are indigenous to a place, or you never will be. Just like D’Souza will never be indigenous to the USA, because he’s indigenous to India. So like millions of others in this country (myself included), he’s an immigrant, and unlike the millions of Africans who were brought to the Americas as slaves, he is a willing immigrant.
D’Souza is also inconsistent in his fear-mongering. On one hand he demonizes President Obama for being anti-colonialist, while on the other hand, he tries to disparage George Obama for suggesting Kenya might have been wise to tolerate British rule until the Brits had done more development for his country. So can someone named Obama hold a view about colonialism that D’Souza does not find detestable?
In spite of D’Souza’s leading questions and desperate innuendos, the interview with the President’s half-brother, George, was a rare pleasant moment in this movie. I enjoyed catching glimpses of our president in the younger Obama’s face and demeanor. The resemblance is also evident in the grace and wit George Obama demonstrated while dealing with this hateful hack.
Another point D’Souza raises as evidence of this imaginary conspiracy that is apparently happening in President Obama’s head, is that young Barack learned along the way, that people tended to like him more if he was polite and friendly, instead of the dreaded angry black man. Wow! What a revelation. Well, welcome to the world of non-white, non-wealthy males, Mr. D’Souza. The only people who never had to learn to be polite and friendly in order to be accepted are the people who are in charge. Everyone else has been taught that lesson along the way and usually very early on in life. Black parents still teach their children, sons especially, to be polite and smile so they don’t get shot by the LAPD or the NYPD or any of the many PD’s that regularly shoots innocent black men. Little girls of every color are still taught to be polite and smile and never disagree with a man or beat him at any contest, or risk becoming an old maid. Maybe someone tried to teach young D’Souza this lesson and he resented the idea that he had to put on an act of acquiescence to be accepted by the class, or in his case, the caste in charge. Newsflash: We all resent having to do that! And you know who has had to do that throughout history, Mr. D’Souza? People under colonial rule… Your parents.
Unfortunately, many people who see this movie will walk away with the impression that it is based on the President’s autobiography because his own voice narrates parts of it. But make no mistake; this movie is not based on any of President Obama’s books. It is based on D’Souza’s books. That is the very first credit in the movie. “Based on the books: ‘2016: Obama’s America’ and ‘The Roots of Obama’s Rage’”, both written by D’Souza, the writer, director, narrator and self-elected leading man of this movie. (And he put himself in almost every scene.) The audio portions that D’Souza has surgically removed from the President’s audio version of his beautiful book, “Dreams From My Father”, if one is able to listen to them objectively, are just narration of his life story which we have known since his book first came out in 1995. But the way that D’Souza frames each phrase of the President’s voice to accommodate his prejudiced hysteria, is to say the least, despicable.
This movie is total fiction. It is Racist Propaganda. These are not facts. This is an envious character assassination from a self-loathing Indian who is trying to curry favor (pun intended) with the racist segment of white wealthy America. The whole movie is a self-aggrandizing ego trip comparing himself to the President: "We're both the same skin tone", he says; "We were both born in the same year. We both married in the same year. We both went to Ivy League schools.” His envy is seething throughout this entire ill-informed movie. D’Souza’s only claim to fame is creating vehicles of hatred against a man with whom he shares so many similarities, yet whose achievements and popularity he knows he could never even approximate.I just saw the movie “2016: Obama’s America” and I thought it was... more

Just over two weeks ago, this striking city landed the 2016 Olympic Games, the first ever in South America, setting off a sweaty, impromptu beach party that lasted most of the weekend. President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva of Brazil sobbed with happiness. Rio’s residents glowed with pride.
Residents of a Rio neighborhood found the body of a man in a cart on Tuesday. They said the man was killed by a rival gang.
Then over the weekend, in a chilling outburst of violence, drug traffickers wielding what the police say they believe was a large-caliber weapon shot down a police helicopter just one mile from Maracana stadium, where the opening and closing ceremonies of the Olympics will be held and the World Cup final will be played two years before the Olympics.
Suddenly, the celebration has been overwhelmed by hand-wringing that Rio’s chronic drug violence, its Achilles’ heel, is being laid bare before the world, and at a particularly inopportune time. Brazilian leaders are touring the world, searching for the investors needed to pay for the billions of dollars in infrastructure required for the events.
The images of the downed police helicopter “really shocked Brazilians, and now everyone is worried about what will happen with the Games,” said Nadine Matos, 21, who works at a hair salon a block from Copacabana Beach. “We need to tell the world where we stand so that people outside Brazil understand what measures we are taking and are not so worried when planning to come down here.”

Roughly 250 people gathered outside City Hall in downtown Chicago this evening to protest the city's bid for the 2016 Olympic games. Protesters criticized Obama for traveling to Copenhagen to back the Chicago bid, and cited Mayor Daley's recent follies - like selling the city's parking meters to a privately-owned company - as evidence of the city's inability to host the games. Partially coordinated by the non-profit organization www.nogameschicago.org , the demonstration comes just days before the IOC announces its decision as to which candidate city wins the bid.
Although the Olympics will increase tourism, revenue, and job offerings in Chicago, protestors believe the games will not benefit the average Chicago citizen - stating they will uproot low-income families from their homes to make room for stadiums, pave over public parks, and ultimately add to the city's $300 million deficit.Roughly 250 people gathered outside City Hall in downtown Chicago this evening to... more

Obama in 2016? Yes we can! Work has already begun to repeal the 22nd amendment, making possible a third term for President Barack Obama. We, the good people of this great nation, already did what some thought impossible. We helped elect an enigmatic junior Senator, Barack H. Obama, the 44th President of the United States.
Once again the good people of this nation are coming together to support change. The time is now to repeal the 22nd amendment. We must preserve our ability to choose. The right man for the job, the right man for the time, the right man for the circumstance, is President Barack Obama.
