Keith Olbermann has done something rather spectacular: he has made cable television executives into sympathetic characters. They have to deal with Keith Olbermann's bullshit, after all. The details of each particular self-entitled tantrum aren't really important; the salient fact is that this will never stop. This is how Keith Olbermann is. If you hire him, this is what you will get. He has some redeeming qualities, yes. He has, within him, the ability to be a great TV newsman. Sadly, his ego will never let that happen. It's time to just... let him go.
He's not worth it.

These are the words of a man who truly cares for his country. And as a man who spent many years in the confines of Washington DC he got to understand the dysfunction all too well. And he is absolutely correct. This should have been a discussion about jobs, explicity clean energy jobs and how becoming much more aggressive about transitioning to a clean energy economy could jumpstart this country and begin to pay down our debt. This should not have been a bill that attached "super congress committees" and triggers to it that force the agenda to be skewed in favor of the moneyed interests that have run this government's policies for far too many years at the expense of those most vulnerable, education, environment and other programs that are needed. The vote on this may be over, but the fight has just begun.
I can't tell you how refreshing it is to hear this man speak and how happy I am that he is still here in the dialogue. But it too saddens me when I think of what could have been had we had that non violent Tahrir Square right here a deacde ago in support of our true president. There is no disputing that more people now see just what we missed out on. But we should not now allow that to cloud the reality of what we face today and I am grateful for his continuing to spark debate in this conversation of regaining our democratic republic. Through all of this he has remained above all a true statesman and a man of grace and I love him very much for that.
Which is why I support his words here and his call to once again regain the conversation and to work to bring much needed life to our democratic process which is now in critical condition. I will be in Washington Dc this October. I will go because I am standing up for my planet, for my country and for those I love. I will go because we as citizens can no longer sit at home and think it will fix itself. Like the climate crisis our democracy crisis cannot be fixed by standing on the sidelines. Only when we become proactive, focused and willing to truly stand up for what is right will we be able to make changes. It won't be easy, but damn it, my son is worth the fight and so is the country I love that has been so good to me.These are the words of a man who truly cares for his country. Rep. Luis Gutierrez (D-Ill.) was a guest on "Countdown with Keith Olbermann" this week, calling for President Obama to use his discretionary powers to bring some relief to students and spouses of U.S. citizens who are being deported or face the threat of deportation. Watch an excerpt of the interview here:
On his website, Gutierrez writes:
"We need the President to fight for us and to make it clear he is doing -- and not just saying -- everything possible to help. The question is whether the President will exercise the powers he has under current law to give DREAM Act students and other immigrants relief from deportation when it is in the national interest of the United States. But he has to expend the political capital to do it, which he has been reluctant to do. The Latino and immigrant voters I talk to -- and those at NCLR conference -- seem to think that his personal investment in helping immigrant families is lacking."
What more should President Obama do, if anything, to bring relief to non-violent immigrants in the United States?Rep. Luis Gutierrez (D-Ill.) was a guest on "Countdown with Keith Olbermann"... more

Current TV says Keith Olbermann will return to the air on June 20.
Current said Tuesday the title of the weeknight news-commentary hour will be "Countdown with Keith Olbermann." "Countdown" was the name of the program Olbermann hosted on MSNBC until his heated departure from that network in January.
Less than a month later, he signed with Current TV, the public affairs channel launched in 2005 by former Vice President Al Gore and Joel Hyatt.
A liberal lightning rod, Olbermann has often clashed with his former bosses and with the corporate culture of General Electric, until recently MSNBC's majority owner. By contrast, Current bills itself as America's only independent news and information TV network.
Current is available in 60 million households in the U.S.

Some how, some way, Christian Finnegan has managed to scrape out a unique identity for himself as a stand-up comedian.
He’s the guy who, on first glance, you think maybe he’s gay. But he’s not. Ask him about his father-in-law, if you have any doubt.
AUDIO EXCERPT: "I tried to hold off on Twitter as long as I could. I tried to stay strong against the tide of history... It may not be worth doing a whole stand-up bit about, but if you have a funny thought about salt shakers, you can throw it out into the ether."
And maybe, you think, he’s too smart to be a comedian. But he’s not. Actually, he is pretty smart, so that one could go either way.
He’s smart, he’s topical, and he’s not afraid to let a fart joke fly.
If you’re wondering from where you recognized his wit and clean good looks, think back to VH1’s “Best Week Ever, Comedy Central’s “Chapelle Show” or, more recently “Countdown with Keith Olbermann” on MSNBC.
Finnegan just released a pretty damn funny DVD of his latest work, entitled “Au Contraire!” You may have already seen a shorter version currently in rotation on Comedy Central.
You can find out when he will be in your town at his website, ChristianFinnegan.com.BY BOB ANDELMAN
