Ex-Cop Goes Rogue on the Drug War, Tells Pot Smokers How to Outsmart the Police | | AlterNet

Police admired Barry Cooper when he lied to put drug dealers in prison. Then he flipped the game on them.

Barry Cooper should know better than anyone that you don’t mess with the police. He was once a cop, and a dirty one at that. But for the past three years, this former narcotics officer has been irritating the hell out of law enforcement, and he’s been steadily raising the stakes, damn the consequences.

It began in 2007, when Cooper gained some notoriety for releasing a self-produced DVD series called Never Get Busted Again. In it, Cooper shows pot smokers ways to outsmart the cops and their drug dogs. He says that if you have marijuana in the car, it’s a good idea to also bring along a cat, since that will distract even a drug dog. Got cops knocking on your door? Cooper says it’s best to lock it shut, and then tell them through a closed window that you won’t let them in without a warrant. The Never Get Busted DVDs have a low-budget charm, especially when Cooper uses footage taken from his own patrol-car camera to illustrate a point. Back then, in the mid ’90s, Cooper had short cropped hair. Cop mustache. He liked to lean into suspects and intimidate them until they did what he wanted. On his DVDs, Cooper will freeze the patrol-car video to point out the ways he got people to confess they were carrying drugs or money. (“Don’t ever touch your face when you are talking to a cop. It’s a sign that you’re lying.”)

Cooper dropped out of college at age 20 to join the police force in the small East Texas town of Gladewater, where he trained his own drug dog and started making big busts on the highway. Cooper was talented enough at seizing drugs that he was eventually hired by the Permian Basin Drug Task Force, a West Texas unit that became notorious for using unscrupulous tactics and was eventually shut down by the FBI in 1998. To Cooper, being on the task force was a great assignment; he learned all the ways to bend the law to rack up arrests and chase down suspects. Cooper was young, and he says the thing he loved most about being a cop was the adrenaline rush. One of his favorite things was to pull people over on the highway and then, just for kicks, incite a chase.

“They taught us at the academy that once we found drugs on someone, we should handcuff them immediately,” he says. “Instead, I would look at the suspect and say, ‘That’s some crack cocaine I found in your pocket. That’s a felony, you’re going to prison for life.’ And I would just turn around and walk to my patrol car to fill out my paperwork, giving the suspect time to run, and they often did. Israel, the True Rogue State « Seeing the Forest

I was disgusted by the Netanyahu government’s slap to the face of Vice President Biden. What I was not was surprised.

In the run-up to the Iraq War, I had a friend who commented on the irony that Great Britain had become the colony of America. Well, the same can be said of the U.S. vis-a-vis Israel.

Familiarity, the saying goes, breeds contempt, but no one has ever opined on the progeny of slavish devotion. The Israelis kick you whenever they feel like it because they can. Any criticism of their “policy” toward the Palestinians results in the immediate invocation of the Holocaust, while discussion about Israeli influence over American politics is denounced as anti-Semitism.

Fine! Call me an anti-Semite! Overuse has rendered that term about as impactful as a strand of wet spaghetti!

Operations Desert Storm and Iraqi Freedom (HA!) were Israeli-driven wars. Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan was, of course, a response to 9/11. But 9/11 itself was the product of American servitude to Israel. And now, just as it did with Iraq, Israel and its American shill organizations like AIPAC and AEI are throwing a stick at Iran and commanding you to fetch. Whether or not the Obama Administration is as obedient as its predecessor remains to be seen.

Meanwhile, back at the pogrom, the Israelis continue to oppress, harass, and kill Palestinians whenever the hell they feel like it. They know that their faithful dog won’t do anything about it. In the Occupied Territories (a marvelous euphemism for Stolen Lands), Krystalnacht requires no sunset, for it is a 24/7 continuum.

Muslims, including those who are fanatical and violent, can spot weakness as easily as anybody else. Is it any wonder they don’t respect you?

The time is long past for the United States to kick the fascist Israeli State to the curb. Let it take care of its own damn business for a change! Bring your troops home from countries with which you’ve no legitimate quarrel. al Qaeda attacked you, not Afghanistan, while Iraq was never your enemy. Cut off all military and financial aid to Israel. All of it! AND LEAD THE WORLD IN THE IMPOSITION OF SANCTIONS AGAINST THIS ROGUE REGIME!

Levi Johnston On CBS' Early Show: I'm Going To Leak Things On Palin

Levi Johnston appeared on CBS' Early Show Wednesday, where he explained his reasons for spilling unflattering information about the Palin family and said he was keeping some "huge" secrets.

Among other things, Johnston said Palin joked about her son Trig's Down Syndrome, calling him her "retarded baby."

"I was just in shock the first time I heard it," he said, when host Maggie Rodriguez expressed disbelief. He also said Bristol took care of the baby much more than her mother: "Sarah was never home."
Johnston also said that Todd and Sarah would fight in front of their kids.

He said he was going public because the Palins betrayed him and backstabbed him: "I really don't care anymore ... Now it's my turn ... I told a little bit of stuff, and you know, I'm just not going to take it anymore."

"If she's going to go out there and say things to me, about me, I'm going to leak some things on her. I mean that's just how it is," he said. He added, however, that there are some things he won't say that would really hurt Palin. "I'm not gonna go that far," he said.

In recent weeks Johnston has seized the media spotlight, after the announcement that the 19-year-old plans to pose nude in an upcoming issue of Playgirl magazine.

When asked whether he resents Palin, Johnston says, "Well now I've heard all the things she's said. You know, the Sarah Palin I knew before, it was -- it was her putting on a front, it was her being fake to me and now that everything's slowly coming out and I'm hearing more things, you know, and things she's said and done, you know, I see the real Palin," Levi responds, before stepping through the looking glass.

Part two of Rodriguez's interview airs on Thursday morning.

UPDATE: Palin has issued a statement responding to Levi's remarks. "We have purposefully ignored the mean spirited, malicious and untrue attacks on our family. We, like many, are appalled at the inflammatory statements being made or implied." Palin also went after CBS and Levi's intentions to strip for Playgirl: "CBS should be ashamed for continually providing a forum to propagate lies.
