Being a gamer and physically fit has its challenges and contradictions. All that time you are putting into working out or eating healthier could be spent playing a video game and eating chips on the couch. The main challenge for most, is that a good portion of those who consider themselves gamers are also so lazy that they wont want to spend the time nor effort into becoming physically fit when they can just continue their daily routine. Now fitness games are nothing new; developers have had us up and moving for quite some time now, whether it be dancing, playing instruments, doing simple aerobic workouts, or even yoga. However this time around we have something a bit different, the new gaming fitness innovations brought forth by developer Lightning Fish in their debut PlayStation Move title, Get Fit With Mel B.Being a gamer and physically fit has its challenges and contradictions. SEGA producer Keith Dwyer explains PlatinumGames vision behind Vanquish and how the game is unlike other shooters out on the market currently in his interview with the Universal Gaming Database.
UGDB: Many are saying that Vanquish is like a Japanese Halo. Others talked about how the game is focused to fill the gap between the Eastern and Western markets, but still it has the specific Japanese art style. So, what is your truth?
Keith Dwyer: I’ve heard just about every comparison you can think of (personally I found “Gears of War meets Virtual On” entertaining). Vanquish’s spot and role within the East/West framework of the game industry depends upon who you ask, I suppose. Certainly everyone involved wants the game to be commercially successful worldwide and the game has the potential to fill the gap between East and West in terms of gamer satisfaction.SEGA producer Keith Dwyer explains PlatinumGames vision behind Vanquish and how the... more

The Medal of Honor series is one of the most well known franchises in video gaming. This franchise is home to many prestigious awards, world records, and die-hard fans around the world, but this once best selling title for Electronic Arts has fallen on hard times in recent years with under-performing titles across several gaming platforms. Medal of Honor recently celebrated its 10th anniversary and what a better way to celebrate it than to create a new game in the series; Electronic Arts however took it another step further. This is Medal of Honor, reborn, rethought, and redesigned with a new time and war in mind, modern day Afghanistan.
Being a long time fan of the Medal of Honor series it was interesting and somewhat disappointing to see the esteemed series move from its well set roots of World War II to a modern setting, but optimism for something fresh and new was to overwhelming to resist. Over forty individuals primarily composed of American and European community leaders came to EA’s Los Angeles studio to be some of the first outside of the studio and major media outlets to see and play Medal of Honor. The summit began with a bit of disappointment as there was to be zero hands on time with the singleplayer component of the game. Several great presentations flowed through the first day nevertheless, as the lead developers working on the new re-imagined Medal of Honor gave us an in-depth look at the key components of the game. The first of these presentations would be a broad singleplayer story overview, then a look at the artistic values and environmental inspiration, then an in-depth technical explanation of the new animation and artificial intelligence system, then a listen to what we can hear in Medal of Honor’s audio to finish up the first day.The Medal of Honor series is one of the most well known franchises in video gaming.... more
