The ongoing struggle to ensure that Gay Americans have the same rights as everyone else has a new warrior. Academy Award-winning actress Monica Imes Hicks, a Baltimore-area native better known as Mo'nique, star of the movie "Precious," has come out with a brief video that supports the concept of no longer treating GLBT Americans like second class citizens with some sort of contagious infection the immediately spreads to children.

"Get your as on down to the welfare!" It's just amazing how ALL the actors and roles in this film are so great. Every single one of them. You may have heard about Mo'Nique's performance. She is a no name, non-actor plucked off the street when she cut her college classes to do an audition. She seems to have something of a parallel background to her character, but not nearly as traumatic or hurtful, I'm sure. She lived in Harlem too where the movie is set.
But what really blew me away was Mariah Carey, who played a social worker. She just sits there listening to Precious, listening and listening and hardly ever saying anything except with her piercing eyes. I love it when people under play roles like that. It's so powerful."Get your as on down to the welfare!" It's just amazing how ALL the... more
