On Sunday (May 30, 2010) an estimated 4,600 runners participated in the Buffalo Marathon, Half-Marathon, and Marathon Relay. These runners, representing 37 states and 5 countries, came together to achieve personal goals, help support cancer research, and to ultimately give back to their community.
This weekend there were a great number of personal achievements accomplished as well as contributions to the local community. The proceeds of the race went to help programs and services at Roswell Park Cancer Institute, Hospice Foundation of Western New York and NF2-Neurofibromatosis Cancer Research.
As John Beishline, Marathon Director for the Buffalo Marathon, was quoted as saying, "We can do a Buffalo Marathon with Buffalo people."
One of SkunkPost's very own, Aaron Smith, decided to test himself in the Buffalo Half-Marathon and this is his story.
Special thanks to the following YouTube users for sharing their Buffalo Marathon experience.

The Buffalo Bills are approaching the 2010 season with a new General Manager and Head Coach. With these changes at the helm, this means that there are going to be some personnel changes to fit the new schemes that are introduced. The Bills had 9 picks in this years draft and addressed some of their personnel needs.

This message was brought to you by one irritated voter with NO affiliation with any career politicians or the Democratic Party.
I received my inspiration for this episode of "The Soap Box Spot" from reading a article by WNYMedia.net.
On April 12th, WNYMedia.net broke the story "NY Gubernatorial Candidate Carl Paladino's Racist and Sexist Email History." This story shows, in detail, the kind of racist and pornographic emails that Carl Paladino has sent around to his friends. I would like to say thank you to WNYMedia.net for revealing to us all exactly what kind of person Carl Paladino is.

A while back fellow co-worker Sara Serafin did a story on a local band called Redwater. As I watched her edit her piece, I decided that I wanted to check these guys out for myself, and lucky me they were having a CD release party that coming Friday at Mohawk Place.
First, I must comment on Mohawk Place, it is nothing special... It is a bar made to listen to live music and to drink cheap beer. You have to love a bar that has its priorities in check.
Secondly, Redwater was traditional rock with a little bluegrass mixed in. Keep an eye out for these guys, because they put on a great show.A while back fellow co-worker Sara Serafin did a story on a local band called... more

BUFFALO WHAT?! BANDITS! SkunkPoster Aaron Smith found another Buffalo sports team to cheer for.
The HSBC Arena plays host to one of the better sports teams in Buffalo, and I am not talking about the Buffalo Sabres. The Buffalo Bandits have been in Buffalo since 1992 and have a loyal and strong following. One can see why, after going to a game. The games are not only action packed, the Bandits are consistantly good. It feels good to support a winning team.
The Bandits games are on Saturday nights and if you are looking for a change of pace, deffinatly go check out one of the games.BUFFALO WHAT?! BANDITS! SkunkPoster Aaron Smith found another Buffalo sports team to... more

SkunkPoster Aaron Smith was looking for something different to do, and he found it.
SoundLab plays host to one of the best dance parties in Buffalo. Shock & Awe is a party that has been going on for 3 years now. It is an eclectic scene and has never failed to show a good time. The venue is a little tricky to find... but that adds to the experience. It makes you feel as if you have discovered some kind of secret party, but believe me... this party is no secret.
Keep an eye out for the next Shock & Awe... and make a point to venture into the city and find a new experience that this city has to offer.SkunkPoster Aaron Smith was looking for something different to do, and he found it.... more

In Gov. Paterson's State of the State address, one of his top points outlined is polital ethics reform. SkunkPoster Aaron Smith believes this is a good idea, and in order for New York State to get back on track, we need honest people in government. As citizens we cannot get wrapped up in what is going on in D.C., we also need to pay attention to what is going on in our very own backyards.
If there are any subject lines that you would like to see covered in "The Soap Box Spot," please leave it in a comment below, or film your own version of "The Soap Box Spot" and post it to the U-Post section of the site.In Gov.
