Texas Red is as it has been mostly an enclave immune from the protections of the U.S. Constitution and a no man’s land of those caught up in the struggle to preserve the wall of separation between church and state not to mention, a cratered landscape of prisons, deplorable apartheid public education, lack of healthcare and politicians and majority population intent on keeping it that way…Texas Red is as it has been mostly an enclave immune from the protections of the U.S.... more

"The intent—at least my intent—is to give women an opportunity to have more information, to make more of an informed decision," Sen. Carlos Uresit told me. "Perhaps, by having the waiting period, whether it be 24 hours or two hours because of the logistics involved, maybe they'll understand that there are some other options available to them—perhaps." It wasn't exactly a firm endorsement of the 24-hour provision.”

The reason I maintain this blog is that I give a damn. I want to reach as many people as possible and make certain they are aware of what is going on in this nation.
That is a challenging proposition while working 40 plus hours a week in addition to making time to stay physically fit and still read, investigate, analyze, draft and publish a blog.
The Texas Red legislature which meets every other year is this year a GOPer dominated mean-spirited group of lawmakers doing the bidding of the oligarchs. The reason I maintain this blog is that I give a damn. I want to reach as many people... more

Those in total control of Texas Red and the nation that would be “the real money” are always manipulating the general population. Tools may vary from the apartheid public education system to the prison-industrial complex and even the “give aways.” Give aways are those commodities the ultra elite a/k/a the oligarchs will part with to keep the rabble from revolting. That would be just enough to keep them sated. Those in total control of Texas Red and the nation that would be “the real... more

Just last year when Texas Red’s own howdy doody governor was lauding Texas Red’s job creation anyone lucid should have been asking questions.
Sure there are businesses moving to Texas Red. Yes, there are jobs being created. You have a problem with that?Just last year when Texas Red’s own howdy doody governor was lauding Texas... more

I guess I just don’t get it. Here you have the majority population of both Texas Red and the nation proclaiming they are “compassionate conservative Christians” and yet those same people do things that with all due respect to their delusional smugness have absolutely nothing to do with the Christ. They are just down right mean-spirited at best.I guess I just don’t get it. Here you have the majority population of both Texas... more

Our apartheid public education system offers little education beyond the mere basics. Students aren’t taught the most important of all education--- profound thinking. Students are taught to pick one answer from usually four canned answers. These answers usually referred to as A, B, C or D represent to the student the only possible answers to the question---which may or may not be the case. Our apartheid public education system offers little education beyond the mere basics.... more

If you were Anglo back when I was a boy you had enviable, if not inalienable, rights. Those rights inspired all us non-Anglos. Even though the 1950’s abridged many of our civil rights at least its being inspired the push back of the 1960’s and 70’s.If you were Anglo back when I was a boy you had enviable, if not inalienable, rights.... more

The Loon Star state’s 82nd Legislative session has been nothing short of delusionally disconnected from reality. Despite the best efforts of some and because of the best of others the majority population’s egregiously partisan ways and adherence to a slave state legacy are intact. This deep commitment to the compassionate conservative Christian “values” ensure that for at least another two years the majority and its elected representatives are holding onto its … cratered landscape of prisons, deplorable apartheid public education, lack of healthcare. The Loon Star state’s 82nd Legislative session has been nothing short of... more

Given the fervor of GOPers in Austin to enact strict voter ID laws you'd think illegals, illegal aliens and just plain aliens are being brought into the Loon Star State by the busload, trainload, pickup truck load and even UFO load. Hey wait a minute this can only mean one thing. That the end of days has arrived? No, that pay day lenders are cutting in on the oligarch’s stash and well what’s a lapdog legislature to do? Stomp their collective feet and pound their fists? Give those usurious lenders a good tongue lashing? Naaahh, just pass another law. So what exactly do these lapdogs want? This is completely uncharacteristic. That means they want something. That’s a promise.Hey wait a minute this can only mean one thing. That the end of days has arrived? No,... more

“In our morning Hot List for day 70 of the Lege, we preview the voter ID debate this week in the House. We also examine a shady bill getting much less attention: Sen. Tommy Williams' homeland security legislation that would call for driver's license checkpoints and a license-plate reader program. And here we thought this session was supposed to be about shrinking government. ”“In our morning Hot List for day 70 of the Lege, we preview the voter ID debate... more

Just who are the 2.3 million Americans sitting in our prisons and total 7 million American’s populating our prison-industrial complex?
“The Justice Department estimates that 16 percent of the adult inmates in American prisons—more than 350,000 of those incarcerated—suffer from mental illness; the percentage among juveniles is even higher. And 2007 Justice statistics showed that nearly 60 percent of the state prisoners serving time for a drug offense had no history of violence and four out of five drug arrests were for drug possession, not sales. Webb also reminds us that while drug use varies little by ethnic group in the United States, African-Americans—estimated at 14 percent of regular drug users—make up 56 percent of those in state prison for drug crimes. We know all of this. The question is how long we want to avoid dealing with it.” Cage Match: Guantanamo is the least of America's prison problems. http://www.slate.com/id/2219787/
Plans to gut mental health spending in Texas will not only destroy lives, but overwhelm jails, emergency rooms, and taxpayers’ wallets
“Texas ranks 49th in spending on mental health, according to the Texas Medical Association. Yet despite the state’s long history of underfunding mental health care, Evans and others are frustrated to see lawmakers pushing the bar even lower. Current state budget proposals would make deep cuts to community mental health programs — programs that have proven effective at keeping the mentally ill, homeless, and drug-addicted out of jail and in treatment.”Just who are the 2.3 million Americans sitting in our prisons and total 7 million... more

In last year’s Elections GOPers who now control the U.S. House asked, “Where are the jobs?” Well?
Boehner, Where Is, "Where Are the Jobs?"?
Before the 2010 congressional elections, Rep. John Boehner (R-Ohio) and his fellow GOPers developed and implemented a simple campaign strategy: say "where are the jobs?" over and over and over. Even though the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office had declared thst President Barack Obama's stimulus package had created or saved about 3 million jobs and a recovery (albeit weak) was under way, the Republicans blamed Obama for screwing up the economy (not Wall Street or the Bush-Cheney administration). In politics, an attack doesn't have to be fair or accurate to work—and this one did.
Since then, have you heard Boehner screaming about jobs? No.In last year’s Elections GOPers who now control the U.S. House asked,... more

Between the top 1% and the majority population of Texas Red (and more and more the nation) it’s a wonder people anywhere enjoy anything resembling freedom. When exactly we went from a republic to a “democracy” and then an empire is debatable. That we were not stood up as a democracy is a given and substantiated by a great many organic instruments, the Declaration of Independence, the U.S. Constitution and the Federalist Papers.
In far too many ways this transition found its way into our day-to-day life. It has mutated our principle-based culture to one based more on character. And we have more than a few characters and not in a benign way. When exactly we went from a republic to a “democracy” and then an empire... more

It’s interesting that those who proclaim patriotically that we need to export more freedom when it comes to a foreign land are so quick to abandon that sentiment at home.
It’s also interesting that those who claim we have no money and thus have to do away with unions that provide average Americans one of the few opportunities for earning a living wage are also ready to fight tooth and nail to make certain the top 1% doesn't have its taxes bumped up from 35 to 39%.
When people complain to me about Perry, the Texas Red legislature and the general conditions of Texas Red, you know the “cratered landscape of prisons, deplorable apartheid public education, lack of healthcare and politicians and majority population intent on keeping it that way…”I remind that I’m more concernted about the majority population that keeps putting these guys back in office. Is it any wonder the poor stay poor when predatory lenders of all stripes lurk everywhere? Really.
You know at first I thought having a Democrat in office might actually make things better. Then Bill Clinton signed the law that did away with the Glass Steagall Act. That’s the law that had been in place since the Great Depression staving off the egregious practices of the financial industry that created the Great Depression. The Glass Steagall Act was put in place after the Great Depression to keep meltdowns like the one that is still keeping us in a recession and 25 million Americans either unemployed or underemployed.
The egregious predatory lenders, Wall Street and the banking industry in collusion cost our economy an estimated $23.7 trillion dollars. Isn’t that enough? Is it any wonder the poor stay poor when predatory lenders of all stripes lurk... more

Viewing Japan from Texas Red I am reminded of my grandmother’s words. “Al que nace para tamal, del cielo le caen las ojas.” Loosely translated, you can’t escape your appointment in Samara.
Almost 70 years ago, Hiroshima and Nagasaki, were rent asunder by the atom bomb and now seven decades later that same energy is once again poised to bring devastation to that island nation.
Life, nature is indiscriminately brutal. Yet I also believe there is no such thing as coincidence.Viewing Japan from Texas Red I am reminded of my grandmother’s words. “Al... more
