For years now -- 40, to be exact -- Rounder Records has put out an eclectic range of American music. Founded with the intent to showcase roots-based genres, the label has released the works of countless celebrated performers of soul, bluegrass, zydeco and country, with some hyphenated blends thrown in for good measure.
“The Rounder Records 40th Anniversary Concert” features a host of these noteworthy artists in a celebratory 2009 event filmed at the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville. Actress and singer Minnie Driver hosts and contributes the initial performance. My sister, Allison Krause, was slain in the Kent State Massacre in 1970 on the Kent State campus in Ohio. On May 4, 1970 (soon to be 40 years), four protesters were shot/killed and nine were wounded. The reports of the shootings are all incorrectly depicted in civics textbooks around the world.
