WASHINGTON– As the Senate opened debate Wednesday on the most sweeping new gun control proposals in a generation,Texas’ senators pushed back with proposals backed by gun rights groups.
Sen. John Cornyn is pushing a measure allowing people with a concealed weapon permit to use them in other states. And Sen. Ted Cruz is spending the day courting support for an alternative to the Democrats’ bill. His package would make it easier to transport guns across state lines, and would crack down on felons who try to buy guns, without expanding background checks.
“This legislation is targeted at stopping violent crime,” Cruz told reporters as he unveiled his package with Iowa Sen. Chuck Grassley, senior Republican on the Judiciary Committee, and two GOP colleagues. “The way to stop violent crime is to stop violent criminals.”
Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, a Democrat who has enjoined support from the National Rifle Association, came out forcefully on Wednesday for a ban on assault weapons and high-capacity ammunition magazines.
And he mocked as paranoid the arguments against such bans, an effort expected to fall short despite the Democratic leader’s shift.
“I’ll vote for the ban because maintaining the law and order is more important than satisfying conspiracy theorists who believe in black helicopters and false flags,” Reid said on the Senate floor as he opened the gun bill debate. “I’ll vote for the ban because saving the lives of police officers, young and old, and innocent civilians, young and old, is more important than preventing imagined tyranny.”
The Senate plans to debate and vote on nine amendments later today, including measures to ban military-style assault weapons – what Reid called “weapons of war” — and high-capacity clips.
Senators will also consider the Cornyn amendment. The deputy GOP leader’s proposal would guarantee that anyone with a concealed carry license in one state can carry the weapon in any state that allows that privilege. The National Rifle Association, Gun Owners of America, and National Shooting Sports Foundation support the idea.
“Balancing two of this nation’s most fundamental rights, this measure ensures that law-abiding Americans are able to lawfully carry their weapons across state lines while respecting the rights of each individual state to pass laws that are right for them,” Cornyn said.
Each amendments will require 60 votes out of 100.
Cruz and others led a brief filibuster last week in hopes of staving off debate on the gun bill. Sixteen Republicans joined with nearly all Democratic senators to end the filibuster.

Five months ago, the group of homemade gun enthusiasts known as Defense Distributed set out to create a lethal firearm that could be downloaded and 3D-printed entirely from scratch, circumventing all gun control laws. But as new gun bills have been proposed in the wake of recent shootings, creating a bootleg weapon with digital pieces may soon be far easier: As simple as printing a spring-loaded plastic box.
Over the past weekend, Defense Distributed successfully 3D-printed and tested an ammunition magazine for an AR semi-automatic rifle, loading and firing 86 rounds from the 30-round clip.
That homemade chunk of curved plastic holds special significance: Between 1994 and 2004, so-called “high capacity magazines” capable of holding more than 10 bullets were banned from sale. And a new gun control bill proposed by California Senator Diane Feinstein would ban those larger ammo clips again. President Obama has also voiced support for the magazine restrictions.
But Defense Distributed founder Cody Wilson says he hopes the group’s recent work demonstrates the futility of that proposed ban in the age of cheap 3D printing.
“We want to preempt Feinstein, to eat their lunch,” says Wilson. “This isn’t 1994. The Internet happened since the last assault weapons ban. This is a fledgling tech, but look what we’re able to do. We printed that magazine out.”
Here’s a video of Defense Distributed’s latest testing. The clip begins with a dry question from Wilson: “How’s that national conversation going?” a reference to Democratic House majority leader Nancy Pelosi’s call for a “national conversation” about gun control following the December massacre of schoolchildren in Newtown, Connecticut.

On January 13, 2013, H.R. 226 was introduced in the House of Representatives by Connecticut Democrat Rep. Rosa DeLauro. The bill will amend the 1986 IRS code and allow a credit if taxpayers “surrender” their guns to the government.
photo
Cited as the “Support Assault Firearms Elimination and Reduction for our Streets Act,” the proposed legislation represents another effort to convince citizens that they must voluntarily turn in their guns as a civic duty and to do their part to reduce “gun violence” and protect children, as Obama said yesterday.
The bill is yet more evidence that federal and state governments are now pulling out all stops short of door-to-door confiscation in their coordinated effort to disarm the American people.
Strikingly honest language included in the legislation specifies that the bill is part of the government’s “program to reduce the number of privately owned weapons,” in short, a program to disarm the American people.
The bill contains an exhaustive list of so-called “assault weapons” that will garner a $2,000 tax credit, including the much demonized Bushmaster AR-15 allegedly used in the Newtown Sandy Hook massacre.
The bill was referred to the Committee on Ways and Means on January 14, 2013.
The inclusion of the IRS in the government’s attempt to grab guns is especially foreboding considering its effort to act as a Obamacare compliance enforcer. In July, we reported on a revelation made by Texas Republican Rep. Kevin Brady that the tax agency planned to hire up to 16,500 new agents.
American taxpayers must reject such cynical enticements and stand together and support the Second Amendment against all attacks by Obama and Congress.
The latest foray against the Second Amendment and the founding principles of the republic commenced soon after the Sandy Hook incident on December 15 when California Democrat senator Dianne Feinstein exploited the tragedy to call for an attack on America’s “gun culture.”
“I hope and trust that in the next session of Congress there will be sustained and thoughtful debate about America’s gun culture and our responsibility to prevent more loss of life,” Feinstein said. “I will do another assault weapons ban.”
New York governor Andrew Cuomo jumped on the anti-Second Amendment bandwagon a few days later, on December 21, and proposed gun confiscation in the state. “Confiscation could be an option. Mandatory sale to the state could be an option,” Cuomo said. He was egged on by notorious gun-grabber advocate and New York City mayor Michael Bloomberg who also demanded Obama use unconstitutional executive actions against the Second Amendment.
On December 30, Feinstein said America needs to “bite the bullet” and restrict the gun rights of Americans following comments by president Obama that he would support draconian legislation aimed at the Second Amendment.
Over the next two weeks, the establishment media launched an intense anti-Second Amendment campaign and produced corporate polls in favor of “common sense” gun bans. Alex Jones appeared on the Piers Morgan Show and a flurry of pro and con pundits and commentators debated the finer points of stripping Americans of their right to own firearms.
On December 16, Obama and Joe Biden went on national television accompanied by a gaggle of children and pushed the federal government’s anti-Second Amendment agenda. Obama brazenly signed a number of unconstitutional executive actions during the performance instructing the government to roll back the Second Amendment. On January 13, 2013, H.R. 226 was introduced in the House of Representatives by... more

In addition, you are more than twice as likely to be a victim of knife crime in the UK than you are a victim of gun crime in the United States, but there is no media debate about banning kitchen knives.
Despite virtually all handguns being outlawed in 1996 following the Dunblane school massacre in Scotland, with law-abiding people rushing to turn in their firearms, over the next decade gun crime in the UK more than doubled.
England is routinely either number one or number two in the rankings of the highest violent crime rate in Europe. Switzerland on the other hand, with its almost universal gun ownership, is routinely ranked as one of the safest countries in Europe, again proving that gun control does not reduce violent crime.
Gun control has never reduced violent crime in Britain, nor has it reduced gun crime. Last year, gun crime in England and Wales soared by 35 per cent. England’s gun murder rate did not drop after all handguns were banned in 1996.
While England’s violent crime rate continues to accelerate, America’s violent crime rate drops as more and more law-abiding people own firearms.!

Guns are only up for debate on corporate owned news shows when used by the 0.00001% of Americans that turn out to be deranged killers on cocktails of anti-depressants.
That’s why you won’t be seeing any reports on an incident that occurred in Atlanta Friday when a mother of two fended off an intruder with a handgun, successfully protecting her kids and her home.
Walton County Sheriff Joe Chapman told wsbtv news that the woman spotted a man attempting to get into her property with a crowbar. The sheriff said that she ushered her 9-year-old twins to a crawlspace and prepared to defend herself with the weapon.
When the intruder gained access to the property, he was in for an unpleasant surprise.
“The perpetrator opens that door. Of course, at that time he’s staring at her, her two children and a .38 revolver,” Chapman told reporters.
The woman opened fire and delivered five rounds to the intruder.
“She’s standing over him, and she realizes she’s fired all six rounds. And the guy’s telling her to quit shooting,” Chapman said.
The woman then ran with the children to a neighbor's house and waited for police to arrive. The shooter fled but was found a short time later in his car by police. He was badly injured with gunshot wounds to his face and neck, but survived.
The woman’s husband, Donnie Herman said ”My wife is a hero. She protected her kids. She did what she was supposed to do as responsible, prepared gun owner.”

HB 815 amendment 1 & 2 and HB 1263 amendments 5 & 6 were passed out of the Illinois Senate Public Health Committee last night, advancing to the full Senate floor for a debate and possible approval later today.
As we highlighted yesterday, the legislation would ban a plethora of firearms including semiautomatic rifles, pistols, and shotguns, and pump action shotguns, forcing residents to register them with State Police as a pre-cursor to confiscation.
The two bills, which are being spearheaded by Democratic Senate leader John Cullerton and have a 50-50 chance of passage, would also severely restrict private gun ranges by placing them under government regulation.
“If passed the bills would ban most all semi-auto handguns, rifles, and shotguns as well as pump rifle and shotguns. The proposed legislation would also close down most shooting ranges and clubs that are open to the public or conduct events open to the public. Included in the legislation is a ban on ammunition magazines with a capacity to hold more than 10 rounds, a requirement to register all guns and magazines with the Illinois State Police,” reports IllinoisCarry.com.
In the video clip above, State Senator Dale Righter outlines the details of the two bills and notes that they represent a violation of second amendment rights. “I will not support any legislation….that requires anyone in Illinois to register their firearms with State government,” said Righter.
The legislation represents an effort to apply Chicago’s restrictive gun control laws to the rest of the state of Illinois. Given the fact that the vast majority of Chicago’s law-abiding citizens have been disarmed via gun control, it’s unsurprising that the Windy City has a soaring gun violence rate because only the criminals are allowed to own firearms.
In 1982 Chicago passed a ban on all handguns except for those registered with the city before the ban was enacted. In 2010, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that the ban was unconstitutional, but city officials rushed to re-write the law.
Since the handgun ban took effect, the number of murders in Chicago committed using handguns has been 40% higher than before the ban, and has spiked even higher in recent years, proving that the gun ban actually served to cause an increase violent crime.
Infowars is encouraging residents of Illinois to call Senate President Cullerton at 217-782-2000 and contact state representatives at ilga.gov to voice their opposition to the legislation.HB 815 amendment 1 & 2 and HB 1263 amendments 5 & 6 were passed out of the... more

Senator Dianne Feinstein’s ultimate plan has always been to have Mr. and Mrs. America turn in their guns to the government, period. Feinstein’s bill would criminalize millions of Americans and completely eviscerate second amendment rights.
She tells us a gun ban is about saving the children and reducing crime, but her comments on 60 Minutes in 1995 reveal her true plan is to target law-abiding American gun owners.
On Thursday, Feinstein will introduced her dream bill to disarm the American people. The legislation is open-ended and includes provisions to re-register firearms and submit the fingerprints of law-abiding Americans as if they’re sex offenders.
Feinstein’s bill will also include a buy-back provision that will allow the government to confiscate all firearms. Both Feinstein and New York governor Andrew Cuomo have said that is their plan.
It is a gun confiscation bill.
The proposed bill is open declaration of war on the Second Amendment.
It’s no coincidence that the communist Chinese, the biggest holders of U.S. debt, have demanded the American people be disarmed. History tells us that it is the instinct of all tyrants to disarm the slaves.Senator Dianne Feinstein’s ultimate plan has always been to have Mr. and Mrs.... more

The supreme Senate defender of state secrecy and the Surveillance State, California Democrat Dianne Feinstein, yesterday issued a statement to Australia’s largest newspaper, The Sydney Morning Herald, demanding (once again) the prosecution of WikiLeaks and Julian Assange. To see how hostile Feinstein is to basic press freedoms, permit me to change “Assange” each time it appears in her statement to “The New York Times“:
The head of the US Senate’s powerful intelligence oversight committee has renewed calls for [The New York Times] to be prosecuted for espionage. . . .
”I believe [The New York Times] has knowingly obtained and disseminated classified information which could cause injury to the United States,” the chairwoman of the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence, Dianne Feinstein, said in a written statement provided to the Herald. ”[It] has caused serious harm to US national security, and [] should be prosecuted accordingly.”
As EFF’s Trevor Timm noted, there is no sense in which Feinstein’s denunciation applies to WikiLeaks but not to The New York Times (and, for that matter, senior Obama officials). Indeed, unlike WikiLeaks, which has never done so, The New York Times has repeatedly published Top Secret information. That’s why the prosecution that Feinstein demands for WikiLeaks would be the gravest threat to press freedom and basic transparency in decades. Feinstein’s decades-long record in the Senate strongly suggest that she would perceive these severe threats to press freedom as a benefit rather than drawback to her prosecution designs.

This is a make or break moment for California.
After years of drought, rains have replenished California water supplies by 90 to 129 percent. Snow pack in the Sierra Nevadas is at historical highs.
Yet hundreds of family owned farms in the Central Valley still don't know if they'll be able to plant, hire and harvest this year because they may not get sufficient water allocations. Thousands of food industry could again be standing in food lines in towns with unemployment as high as 40%.
Diane Feinstein has some ideas on what to do about this terrible situation.
