It all started with an old mobile phone and trading it for a dirt bike on Craigslist. For any 17 year old is a good trade to get online, but for Steven Ortiz it was the beginning of a number of great swaps.
Over 2 years and 14 swaps Ortiz owned "a MacBook Pro, a 1987 Toyota 4Runner, and eventually a 1975 Ford Bronco."-Huff. The teenager says anyone can join the trading system, but going from a mobile to a 2000 Porsche Boxster S isn't easy.
Steven Ortiz tips:
Method- "Ortiz says he does his research first, searching the web for good deals. He also says you should never pay any extra cash for anything when bartering."
Thoughts- "Anybody can do this as long as they put their mind to it. That's all it is -- your mind and your patience. You can't give up."

Since tea is the main theme of Fairtrade Fortnight 2010 it had to form part of my Big Swap Blog.
This however, left me with an immediate problem. I already use Fairtrade tea bags and herbal teas are mostly organic rather than Fairtrade. I was faced with the ultimate question, to swap or not to swap? Luckily Cafedirect came to my aid with their Fairtrade Earl Grey tea.

Unless youve been living under a rock youll have seen that Emma Watson of Harry Potter fame has teamed up with ethical fashion brand, People Tree. The collection aimed at the under 25 demographic hopes to raise awareness of fair trade whilst simultaneously showcasing how far ethical fashion has progressed since the early days of the fair trade movement, and guess what there isnt a hemp item in sight!

Today Im migrating away from food products and embracing more exercise. I like to try and go swimming twice a week although in reality this doesnt always happen. As I am trying to fit my fair trade swaps into my regular routine, my new fair trade towel will be accompanying me on todays trip to the pool.
