While England was singing "We'll Meet Again" with "Forces Sweetheart" Vera Lynn, America turned to the talent from Philadelphia Pennsylvania. The 24th of November will mark 64 years since the song "It's Been a Long Long Time" made it to the top of the music charts in America. The version that made it to the top first was done by Harry James and his Orchestra, and sung by walk-of-fame star Kitty Kallen. It was replaced at the top by Bing Crosby covering the very same song. Later, Harry James would again recover the top spot. If I'm not mistaken it was the only time two versions of the same song competed for the top spot.
Bing Crosby has become a legend. Kitty Kallen is still with us and has a myspace page, although she hasn't logged on for awhile. Kitty, how have you been?
