The free to play model has been taking the web by strom with huge free to play games even making profit. Now paid games like World of Warcraft have adopted the free to play. So it is not a shocker that xbox 360 will be adding free to play games very soon.
Hi-Rez Studios is currently working on a free to play game for PC and xbox 360 called Tribes: Ascend. According to the big boss man at hi rez Microsoft understands the trends going on towards free to play games and wants to get on it before there competitors.
"They're [Microsoft] seeing where the industry is going," he explained. "It's inevitable that Microsoft will move towards that because the industry is moving towards that, and once that groundwork has been laid we would be in a better position to consider Tribes: Ascend for Xbox."
Xbox Senior Product Manager David Dennis was asked about more free-to-play games coming to the 360, and he didn't rule out the possibility.
"We're always looking at different models and different ways we can work with partners to bring content out," he said.
Just last month it was reported that Microsoft is in talks with multiple developers about bringing the free-to-play model to the 360. It won't be too surprising if the company does decide to go that route in the very near future.
so it looks like free to play games will be coming to xbox 360 soon. They make there money off digital micro transactions in a shooting game they would sell guns weapons and many other digital content. The free to play model has been taking the web by strom with huge free to play games... more

Free Prior: This option would be to release the first iteration of the game for free prior to the launch of the next title. They think that by offering the game for free, for a limited time, it would increase awareness of the franchise to those who might not have known about it and create new customers for the second title. They give this example that explains the new market strategy.
When broken down mathematically, the results make a sound financial argument. If a game that once sold 2 million units in the market is currently available digitally and physically, it is likely producing gross receipts of about $500,000 a month. Assuming that gross receipts reduce to $0 during a 30 day period where a title is free (-$500,000), as long as the free offering boost sales of the next iteration by 8,500 units (at $59 ASP), then it would produce a net/net benefit to the publisher. EEDAR believes that the publicity generated from the free offering, in addition to new consumers being introduced to the series, would make the 8,500 unit mark easily achievable.
Cons:
The downside would be for titles with excellent stories like Mass Effect or L.A. Noire where months before the sequels release they see a huge increase in the previous title. Which means the risk of the loss of sales to gain an increase of users for the next title might be high.
Free After: this option would be to release an older iteration for free, also for a limited time, a few months after the release of the sequel. This is lowers the risk for publishers, while at the same time enticing new users to experience the first title and hope they go out and buy the sequel while it is still at it’s regular price.Free Prior: This option would be to release the first iteration of the game for free... more

With help from a national foundation for games development, Iran has published the country's first online game, an MMO called Asmandez.
Asmandez - its English title is Sky Fortress - supports 5,000 users at the same time. The head of Iran's National Foundation for Computer Games said it was developed in hopes of inspiring other Iranians to enter the games development field.
Leave the stereotypes about Iranian theocracy, Sky Fortress sounds decidedly secular in nature. It's a science-fiction game set in the future, pitting humans against robots. Humans have been forced to flee to another solar system, named Limbas, to begin a new life there.
An English-localized version was also developed. The game also is designed to allow access to the visually impaired, through the use of audio cues.
"Some 10 million people use computer games in Iran, only 100 of which can design and develop video games," said Behrouz Minai, the head of Iran's National Foundation for Computer Games. "Sky Fortress is our first step towards encouraging young Iranians to become game developers rather than being mere players."With help from a national foundation for games development, Iran has published the... more

Recently I got a chance to speak with Brandon Justice, Director of Game Design for Quick Hit Football which is a free-to-play football game. Quick Hit Football brings gamers a very unique experience combining strategy with RPG elements in a MMO space. The small team that created this game is compiled of people who worked on MMORPGs, strategy games, and console sports titles. Although this is new territory for the crew, everyone brings in a unique perspective and it definitely shows in the game. During my conversation with Brandon we talked about some new features recently added to the ever-growing title and we also discussed the future of the free-to-play game.Recently I got a chance to speak with Brandon Justice, Director of Game Design for... more
