Directed by Mogcat and shot in Canada and in 6 states in the U.S. over a 10 day period, covering 6,000 miles, Pennan Brae's video "Pathways" from his debut release Shaded Joy conveys the story of a couple who are obviously experiencing some turbulence in their relationship. Initially, the young woman waits for her lover with anticipation at a restaurant, and they continue to text each other while he makes a trek that seems to take him across the world and through all types of terrain and weather. He walks in haste with the sole purpose of getting to her, but an apparent pain from the past won't allow her to believe that he's really coming. One of his last text messages to her is that "He's almost there" and to "Order a beer" for him. She responds, "Sure you are," waits a few more moments and then departs to the ladies room in disillusionment. Mere seconds later, he arrives, doesn't see her, and leaves. It's a lesson about how sometimes we fail to give each other the benefit of the doubt when we should and how if you just believe and hold on, what you've been waiting for might be just around the corner. The video is an emotional one, almost invoking tears at the end when you realize that if either of them had only given the other a break and not given up, they would be together.
Musically, the folksy harmonica plays a huge role in the song, both as part of the background and as a solo. The piano, drums, guitar and bass carry the tune well, which is easygoing and part Americana and country. Brae's mellow voice is perfect for "Pathways," which is quite touching, with lyrics like 'As the daylight shines/My mind is calmly thinking/When the evening calls/Your light is gently sinking' and 'As you draw the blinds/To end another day/Should our pathways fail/Good luck along the way'.Directed by Mogcat and shot in Canada and in 6 states in the U.S. over a 10 day... more

Pennan Brae, has released his new single for his debut album : "Anyways". The video was shot in zero degree sunshine in the Okanagan Valley, BC in 2011. Props should be given to this guy for wearing a flimsy coat, and making a entire music video. It is obvious his dedication for music drove him to zone out the cold and perform this video.
A brilliant, but classic music video shot approach was taken by director Mogcat of Osaka, Japan, which is primarily just focusing on a wide angled shot of Pennan playing the harmonica, bass, guitar, piano, and vocal instruments. Now and again the camera wonderfully zooms in and out on angels of the guitar and bass instruments, adding for a very cool affect. The music at times can sound like a skit of Andy Sandburg from Saturday Night Live in New York City. However, a prominent bass line keeps this pop song moving, along with the catchy harmonica introduction. This beautiful , mellow, pop song, eventually grasps a hold of your ear the more you listen to it. Listeners will be hooked with the underlying melodies from the very beginning.Pennan Brae, has released his new single for his debut album : "Anyways".... more

Pennan Brae's new video, "Need You Now", is an energetic accompaniment to a quick-paced little ditty from Brae's 2009 album 'Amber Glow.' Shot in Japan, the video follows a paper airplane as it flies through the streets and shops of Osaka, on its way to a young man's sweetheart. Injected throughout the video are close-up shots of singer-songwriter Pennan as he serenades into an electric blue mic and his guitarist strums along. Bright colors, lots of movement, and a heartwarming backstory make "Need You Now" a video worth giving up 150 seconds of your time for.
Pennan Brae's video, 'Need You Now' was shot in the sweltering heat of Osaka this August, 2010. DIrected by Mogcat Productions, the premise is of a young man writing a love letter which he folds into a paper airplane & hurls in the air, hoping it finds his love.
The paper airplane begins its hopeful journey for 'her'. It navigates crowds by the thousands, skips past planes, trains & automobiles & ventures in an arcade & music store, amongst other places.
Pennan & Mogcat looked forward to uncovering attractive backdrops. Luckily, Osaka is full of bright lights & unique settings that only exist in Japan. The pair filmed on the roof of the highest spot in town. They captured a glass escalator 550 feet above the ground. The duo took for the tallest Ferris Wheel & timed their shots within the ride's big circle. They went underground for scenes in the Osaka subway system & filmed in the halls of an infamous 'love hotel' (ie; you can rent the room by the hour). Waived off by security guards & watched warily by security cameras, it was a non-stop adventure from start to finish.
& as day gives way to night, the paper airplane discovers its destination & lands at the feet of the girl for whom it was sent. As she opens the note, it reveals the title of the song & message of the author; 'I Need You Now'!
Other Fun Facts:
-2010 was the hottest summer on record in Japan since 1946
-Osaka recorded the hottest temperatures within Japan during the shooting of the video
-2 Ferris Wheels were used in the video, 1 in Kobe & 1 in Osaka
-3 locations were used; Kyoto, Kobe & Osaka

Don't you know I say I need you
Yes I do
Don't you know now that I need you
Yes I do
I need you now...
Know the joy and pain
Being by myself
Felt the sun and rain
Freedom and self-doubt
Now I've been through that
Thought a time or two
'Bout my longings and desires
To be with you
I need you now...
Now that you've tried
To make it on your own
What is rusted
Was once a heart of gold
As you decide
To come back for a try
Heard you whisper
Beneath your alibi
I need you now...
All the things you do
Time and time again
Like the world they turn
Back to you my friend
If we pursue that path
Which leads to our demise
Its fruitless yield
Would be as no surprise
Let's buck the trend
See with your own eyesPennan Brae's new video, "Need You Now", is an energetic accompaniment... more

The single "Have You Ever Been" from Canadian artist Pennan Brae's album 'Shaded Joy' focuses its theme on the endless search for love. Brae's music delivers a contrast between the vibrant and colorful music and passionate and painful words. He pulls this off in a very original way that is far from the mainstream. Brae has a gentle and touching folk style combined with excellent songwriting skills and creativity.
The powerful scale of notes in the opening of the track clear the field for a melody that is rich in its complexity and never stagnant. While the video, directed by Douglas DeBoer of Visual Alchemy, showcases images of the Hawaiian Island, Brae and actress/model Stephanie Perius pursue each other in the magical atmosphere of Kauai, Hawaii.
'Have You Ever Been' is available on iTunes and Amazon.com, as well as Other online music retailers.

'Have You Ever Been' by Pennan Brae (Shaded Joy)
I was walking down by the bay
Saw you 'neath the sun's rays
Then you turned and looked away
Sunshine left clouds filled my day
On my path I set forth
East West South and North
Lone rider take left or right
Through the morn into the night
Have you ever been so lonely child
Have you ever felt the clouds and rain
Have you ever been so lonely child
As lonely as I am right now
I was drifting by the oceanside
Caught your footprints in the tide
Then the waves caused them to hide
I was pained and lost inside
Road ahead slightly bends
Will it ever come to end
Treading thin on tires I roll
Searching for the half to make me whole
I was racing in the jungle heat
Crossed the path you had beat
Then the foliage came to meet
My dead-end heart began to sinkThe single "Have You Ever Been" from Canadian artist Pennan Brae's... more

Singer/songwriter Pennan Brae released two full-length works in 2009, one of which is called 'Amber Glow' and features, among other brilliant songs, Goin' Down. The tune is as soft and laid-back as all Brae's repertoire. But the track soon unveils its distinctive edgy sound, spiced with blues. The video was released on March 1, 2010. Brae's songs have been widely appreciated last year, receiving airplays and charts placements not only in North America, but also in Europe, Japan, Australia and New Zealand. The video of Goin' Down was directed by Thomas Smith and stars actress Raquel Riskin.
