Diamonds! Diamonds! I don't mean rhinestones.........I mean Jewel Towers. Where monarchs keep their jewels and robes when the wardrobe at the Tower of London is full-up. Full-up of weapons and military wotnots.
The Tower was built in 1365 so it's been knocking about defying fires and thieves for over 700 years purely on account of the moat.
Do you just want a moat? I know I doDiamonds! Diamonds! I don't mean rhinestones.........I mean Jewel Towers.... more

It all started in 1917. The Imperial War Cabinet lead by David Lloyd George (who knew my faither) started chatting amongst themselves wondering where they were going to put all the defunct war rubbish after the Armistice. "I know!" ejaculated some otherwise quite & obscure Cabinet Member. "Let's shove it in a museum and call it The War Museum."
The Dominions scattered around the globe but with incredibly Big Ears immediately replied: "Excuuuuuuuuuuuse Me!" in a rather irritated manner. Whereby the Cabinet all declared in unison as if they'd thought it all by themselves (typical bunch of blokes!). "I know let's call it the Imperial War Museum."
It would have been more than rude not to. After all lives had been lost and there wasn't gonna be another big fat World War ever again! It all started in 1917. The Imperial War Cabinet lead by David Lloyd George (who knew... more

The history of Hyde Park as a jolly green space in London goes back even further than the Norman Conquest but then it was owned by the Monks of Westminster.
So imagined how annoyed them Monks were when Henry VIII decided to take it off them in 1534, as a result of the Act of Dissolution. I think you will find they weren't dissolute However, with the arrival of Charles I (the one who lost his head) everyone could be dissolute in a big way as it is he that we can thank for the access we treasure today. That's right even you, you blinking peasant! Horrah! for him then!
It wasn't until Queen Caroline (not the one of Brunswick) that we got really lucky and got two parks for the price of one.........Hyde Park and Kensington Gardens. Often hard to know which one is which right enough. But I think we'll live - eh?The history of Hyde Park as a jolly green space in London goes back even further than... more

It's the story of a building and an industry that it was created to manufacture - Tobacco goods. It is an example of an indulgence in the fashion of Art Deco that was cruelly municipalized by Camden Council.
The Black Cat Factory as it came to be called was publicly stripped of its former grandeur and forced to wear the garb of a council austere rubbish look. That was until 48 million was splurged on the old gal and she was restored to her former glory, reunited with her pals the Kitties and hey presto! And that's how you make a profit of 97 million pounds sterling. It's the story of a building and an industry that it was created to manufacture -... more

The London Olympic's of 2012 will be coming down the back straight before you know it. And frankly running isn't everything there's culture too. With the spotlight soon to be turned on London a gal's gotta get going sashaying in a very jolly nice manner onto the stage of London Town showing off its talents.
This is how Pinkietessa™ is likely to enact that tale............The London Olympic's of 2012 will be coming down the back straight before you... more

This is the sixth of Pinkietessa's™ A-Z of London and it's F for French House. It's all about the French and its history. Eros, The Shaftesbury Memorial, Piccadilly Circus, London, England.
You'd never know that Eros was really Anteros especially if you bury your head in the fountainhead. However, if you watch this you'll find out all there is to know about that nude bloke prancing about in the middle of the Dilly or the now South-side of the Circus.
You will certainly love it loads if Eros strikes the very heart of your interest in all things London, historic, and Aluminum. Who'd be a traveler when you can stay at home and watch this?Eros, The Shaftesbury Memorial, Piccadilly Circus, London, England.

Duck Island is located in St James' Park and is a right old quacking tail, bit of a D.A. really. You'd never imagine that ducks and dynamite would get on so well. There's no evidence of a fois gras buffet ever occurring! This is the third of Pinkietessa's™ A-Z of London. Obviously it's C! Yet, another triumph of blogging. There's always something you can learn about a pointy thing and this is no exception - and believe me this a dead pointy thing. It's also pretty well nigh impossible to fit all of it in a camcorder frame unless you are in Malta, well nearly! Hyperbolism is my game. This is the third of Pinkietessa's™ A-Z of London.
