Paul the Octopus’ successor has made his public debut at the dead psychic’s aquarium in Oberhausen, western Germany, on Wednesday, but his keepers aren’t yet promising deep soccer insight from the youngster.
5-months-old Octopus, who also named Paul, hasn’t turned his tentacles to the tricky art of forecasting results yet, but soccer pundits who enjoyed the original Paul’s amazing World Cup 2010 predictions wait with bated breath.
Paul I held the world like putty in his hands as he correctly predicted the outcomes of eight World Cup 2010 matches – including Spain’s 1-0 win over the Netherlands in the final in South Africa.
Paul the younger is only 5-months-old and is reportedly a bit more conservative than the tentacle fortune teller he succeeds.
Paul hails from near Montpellier in southern France and weighs nearly 10.5 ounces (300 grams). Aquarium spokeswoman says he will made his public debut after two months in quarantine.

Paul the Psychic Octopus – who made such a splash over the summer by successfully predicting the results of World Cup 2010 games – passed away on Monday in the comfort of the German aquarium he called home.
He would have been three in January 2011. Staff at the centre said his death was not entirely unexpected, since common octopuses generally only live a couple of years.
“Management and staff at the Oberhausen Sea Life Centre were devastated to discover that oracle octopus Paul, who achieved global renown during the recent World Cup 2010, had passed away overnight,” the aquarium in Germany said in a statement Tuesday. No further details were given.
However, the UK’s Guardian reports that according to Jiang Xiao, the director of a forthcoming thriller entitled “Who Killed Paul the Octopus?”, the creature had really been dead for the last three months.
She said the newspaper that she is “60 to 70% sure” Paul had died in July and been secretly replaced by his keepers. Explaining how such a deception could have been perpetrated, she added: “[Octopuses] all look the same. It’s impossible to tell the difference.”

The famed Octopus which for many England fans was the most entertaining part of the World Cup 2010 has died. The story was broken on twitter and word came from the Aquarium.
Since his World Cup fame there was awhile with Paul getting books deals and a transfer to a Aquarium in Spain after he predicted their World Cup win.
"”He appears to have passed away peacefully during the night, of natural causes, and we are consoled by the knowledge that he enjoyed a good life here,” Sea Life Centre manager Stefan Porwoll is quoted as saying.
“We may decide to give Paul his own small burial plot within our grounds and erect a modest permanent shrine.”"-Daily What
Though there was controversy when rumours stated he only picked boxes with the most yellow and orange colours, though despite that he had fans.
If he lived longer and if we had 23 boxes spare maybe Paul could have predicted who will win the Ballon D'or.
"The full list of 23 nominees is as follows:
Xabi Alonso (Spain)
Daniel Alves (Brazil)
Iker Casillas (Spain)
Cristiano Ronaldo (Portugal)
Didier Drogba (Ivory Coast)
Samuel Eto'o (Cameroon)
Cesc Fabregas (Spain)
Diego Forlan (Uruguay)
Asamoah Gyan (Ghana)

Julio Cesar (Brazil)
Miroslav Klose (Germany)
Philipp Lahm (Germany)

Not sure how and I'm not sure why, but the latest news from the world of Paul the Octopus is that he's going to record an Elvis tribute album.
Is this one step too far for the meme? I fear it has become self aware. Though despite the obvious questions, the story is,
"Now he is to be turned into an Elvis Presley tribute act by his new agent Chris Davies, from Tenbury Wells, Worcestershire. [...] ‘One of the most exciting things is that he has a record deal in place for an album, called Paul The Octopus Sings Elvis,’ said Mr Davies. There are books being written, a range of octopus toys are coming out this Christmas and there is even a new iPhone app.’-Metro

A Spanish zoo is gearing up to do whatever it takes to make Paul the psychic octopus a permanent fixture in one of their Madrid tanks.
After successfully predicting Spain's first ever World Cup victory, Paul's now flavour of the month to Spanish people, not that Madrid's Zoo Aquarium wants him served up on a plate. Instead they want to cash in on his worldwide fame and popularity in Spain and attract thousands of visitors.
The Guardian says the zoo will offer Germany's Oberhausen Sea Life Centre (Paul's present home) "whatever they demand" to complete the deal and reckons it'll involve an exchange of animals as well as cash.
The average life span of cephalopods like Paul is 16 months. Bearing in mind that Paul was born in January 2008, Madrid might want to rethink their bid...

The Psychic Octopus made his prediction for this weekend's FIFA World Cup finals and what do you know? He was right!
Spain won the 2010 FIFA World Cup after an extra time winning goal from Spain's Andres Iniesta.
It's the first time Spain have won the World Cup and victory came with just minutes to go on the clock. With the score at 0-0 at full time, the game went into extra time. It wasn't until the latter minutes of the second half of extra time that Spain managed to score and clinch victory.
The win heralds a remarkable success-rate for a certain eight-limbed media star.
Paul the psychic octopus, who impressively predicted all of Germany's World Cup games successfully, decided Spain would be victorious over the Netherlands, by setting his sights on a mussel in a box with the Spanish flag on it over another one in a box adorned with the Dutch flag.
Paul also chose the outcome of the runners up match, selecting Germany's to beat Uruguay.
Top Five Octopus Facts:
1. An octopus can taste whatever it's wrapped its tentacles around, via the suckers that line them.
2. Octopuses have absolutely no bones.
3. Octopus blood is bright blue.
4. They have three hearts. Two to pump blood to the gills, one to pump it around the rest of the body.
5. They communicate by changing colour. When it is scared it turns white.

An octopus named Paul with possible psychic powers – who has correctly picked the winner of Germany’s four World Cup matches so far – on Tuesday tipped Germany to beat Argentina in their World Cup quarter-final match on Saturday.
Paul sits on a box with a decorated German flag at the Sea Life aquarium in Oberhausen, western Germany. Paul’s task is to decide in favor of one of the shells hidden in boxes with the flags of Germany and Argentina and to act thus as oracle for the upcoming quarterfinal match of the FIFA Football World Cup between the two countries.
