The economic dowarn spiriil of 08' along with a bad partnership in a restaurant in NYC's Little Italy sent Chef Franco out to sea for the second time in his career. After over a decade of being a landlubber.
Franco wound up on Oceania Cruise Line's " Insignia" as the Italian chef of the Toscana restaurant.
After 5 months at sea, Franco met hundreds of passengers from around the world.
Chef Franco anticipates a return in the fall with the company.

On Oceania Cruise Line I met passengers from all over the world in a packed restaurant every night. As Italian chef of their Toscana restaurant I had the duty of meeting the guests in the dining room and conversing with them about the meal they just had, the wonderful vacation Oceania provides... amongst other topics.
One topic that came up over and over again was NYC's Little Italy. Dispite where the guests were from let it be a group of New Yorkers from Westchester or a group of Europeans that had visited NYC's Little Italy....the conversation was always the same
How disappointing the area has become and "What Ever Happened to NYC's Little Italy"
As a chef that had a partnership in a restaurant there and lived blocks from the area in Manhatten I was expected to be able to provide an answer.
In this article I share the view point of one of the passengers that was very disappointed by NYC-Little Italy and thought that Boston's North End could teach New York's Little Italy a thing or two...New Yorkers Don't want to hear this from Boston...Granted...but it is worth a READ and LISTEN to.
