As locals in a city overflowing with free live music, it’s not often we pay a $10 cover to hear a band—and tonight, because of this, we almost didn’t come. But now that we’re here, we’re not just listening to a band, we’re partying with the band, and we don’t give a damn who’s watching.

Alice Cooper is a name that can still strike fear into the hearts of a certain generation. Follows Barbatos through his series of dreams turned nightmares, as he continues use of the Hallucinogenic Sedative. His vivid dreams are depicted by the the ambient, and dark sounds that accompany these new worlds. Each dream seems to close the gap between vivid imagination and a dark reality, and the journey from one extreme to the other is where our story unfolds. http://www.makeahistory.com/index.php/dark/42992-master-toadFollows Barbatos through his series of dreams turned nightmares, as he continues use... more

To find out what American garage rock looks like (and to know what it’s like to be in an independent band) right now, VBS and Scion A/V toted a bunch of cameras around the USA and found a scene that was vibrant, loud, eloquent, effed-up, and nearly impossible to define. The musicians, artists, writers, deejays and label owners that we talked to could only be united by a single common thread—their commitment to music that they enjoyed, on their terms, at whatever cost necessary (or, in some cases, unnecessary). We met nice, smart, funny people who love rock and roll, don’t traffic in B.S., and had the wherewithal to pick up a guitar (or complementary instrument) at some point in their young lives, put their face to a microphone, and manage to not think too hard about what was going to come out. http://www.makeahistory.com/index.php/album-rewievs/42969-new-garage-explosion-full-length-documentaryTo find out what American garage rock looks like (and to know what it’s like to... more

Faith, Science, and Bad Religion in a World Without God ...... Many people know Greg Graffin as the lead singer and songwriter of the punk band Bad Religion (above) but not as many know that he also received a Ph.D. from Cornell (2003, zoology) and that he teaches evolution at the University of California-Los Angeles. In "Anarchy Evolution: Faith, Science and Bad Religion in a World Without God" (HarperCollins, 2010), Graffin and co-author science writer Steve Olson argue that art and science have a deep connection. As an adolescent growing up when "drugs, sex and trouble could be had on any given night," Graffin discovered that the study of evolution provided a framework through which he could make sense of the world. http://www.makeahistory.com/index.php/album-rewievs/42949-bad-religion-anarchy-evolution-Faith, Science, and Bad Religion in a World Without God ...... In Cleveland, in the summer of 1975, all the bands were breaking up. The creative land rush of the years 1972-74 was played out. A generational window was passing over a mini sub-culture naively dedicated to the odd proposition that Rock Music was a serious art form. David Thomas had a group called Rocket From The Tombs. When it fell apart in the summer of 1975 he decided to record an artifact. This artifact, he hoped, would gain him entry into the Brotherhood of the Unknown that was gathering in used record bins everywhere. He thought Pere Ubu was a good name http://www.makeahistory.com/index.php/album-rewievs/42947-story-of-pere-ubu-10-albumsIn Cleveland, in the summer of 1975, all the bands were breaking up. Neither post-rock nor post-metal, NWI! exist somewhere in between, adding some quirky math-rock overtones and a classy violin-driven progressive rock signature to their sound. They shape their material during 2009, bearing influences from TOOL, ENVY, PELICAN, ISIS and some other bands, but never imitating someone’s manner or sound. http://www.makeahistory.com/index.php/rock/42941-nice-wings-icarusNeither post-rock nor post-metal, NWI! exist somewhere in between, adding some quirky... more

When peaceful rays decompose our bodies, then it might be time to go through the Tannhäuser Tor, with a colored check (pattern), replicated on plastics, the artificial idols, whose sonic aura lets us melt, carrying in us, dragged with us. The tetrahedron network is the matter, from which the dreams are made of, sand for the masses, in realtime against the illusion of infinity. http://www.makeahistory.com/index.php/dub/42935-trans-alpWhen peaceful rays decompose our bodies, then it might be time to go through the... more

PJ Harvey has long been considered one of England’s most innovative and iconoclastic female artists and with her 8th studio album ‘Let England Shake’ she embarks on a historical musical voyage as she seeks to define her relationship with the land of her birth. This is a musical excavation of England’s very soil, of its history and the violent and bloody cycles of conflict that have shaped the nations geography and psyche. http://www.makeahistory.com/index.php/album-rewievs/39118-pj-harvey-let-england-shake-reviewfree-albumPJ Harvey has long been considered one of England’s most innovative and... more

Japanese pop for and from future .... Sayonara Records release by FoOd that tries to cut next generation's pop open IN JAPAN by the wide approach such as a song thing , dance music, pop chips, and guiter-pop finally reach. However, it is not only wide but also mysterious at the same time consistency is seen, and the possibility to coming, JAPANESE pop music seems to be open in the extension . It will be one of the pop artists who want to expect both in the future. http://www.makeahistory.com/index.php/poplo-fi/32326-foodJapanese pop for and from future .... Possessing one of contemporary music’s most incendiary live shows and a clutch of critically acclaimed albums, Rhode Island duo Lightning Bolt have earned wild praise from some of music’s bigwigs (the likes of Steve Albini, John Peel). Their drum/bass set-up might sound limiting, but the uncompromising music and textures they create are anything but. They have just recently released Earthly Delights, their fifth album, and first since 2005’s lauded Hypermagic Mountain, and is further example of their unclassifiable sound. Their music straddles genres such as metal, noise, punk, prog, and favours textures, rhythms, and riffs over easy listening. http://www.makeahistory.com/index.php/album-rewievs/31047-lightning-boltPossessing one of contemporary music’s most incendiary live shows and a clutch... more

A curious blend of atmospheric guitars and drums with a experimental and improvisational edge, emotional, darkly melodic noise ambient. This could easily appear on a soundtrack to an underground indie film, but also stands completely on its own. The band describe it as "a storyline about one uncommon day of an ordinary person. It starts at the midday and ends late at night. And the darker street comes the more heavy, terrible and noisy music turns http://www.makeahistory.com/index.php/rock/29436-scarmA curious blend of atmospheric guitars and drums with a experimental and... more

Katarrhaktes is a solo project of London-based visual and sonic artist Malcolm James McLean, and was conceived of and formed in mid-late 2007. Its aims are to explore the unexplained, what we choose to believe in, the boundaries of truth, the meaning of a linear perceptive existence, and other discourses via conceptual pieces of music which range from a confusion of destructive sonic anarchy that subvert the sensibilities of normative auditory arrangements to structured, percussive noise. http://www.makeahistory.com/index.php/industrial/25281-katarrhaktesKatarrhaktes is a solo project of London-based visual and sonic artist Malcolm James... more

Attending a sprawling congress for Neue Slowenische Kunst's imaginary state proved to be a worthwhile exercise in traumatic participation. While it is almost impossible to encapsulate what the Slovenian art movement Neue Slowenische Kunst (NSK) has undertaken, in all its manifestations, since forming in 1983, we could perhaps describe it best as an aesthetic apparatus for collective diagnosis. Its work - spanning music, theatre, philosophy, and statecraft - has served to diagnose multiple forms of repressed and sublimated desires lingering in the collective imagination: from the continuing but unacknowledged appeal of totalitarianism operating within the Yugoslav state, to the fascist dynamics found within the dynamics of pop culture....

The true relationship really comes down to early punk and early Hip Hop both being D.I.Y. movements with independent spirits. When Black Hip Hop artists began exploring (and creating) their underground, culminating in obscure, unbelievably NEW sounding vinyl spinning out of NYC, this was not entirely untread ground. So in addition to the African griots, the signifying toasters, the comedic Jump Blues vocalists, the chitlin circuit standups, the political poets, the fusion Jazz experimenters and the countless other pioneers that can lay legit claim to the roots of Hip Hop, leave a tiny space for the handful of Black punk rockers who dared to refuse to accept that they had to dig the music they were supposed to dig and wear the clothes they were supposed to wear. http://www.makeahistory.com/index.php/album-rewievs/22568-black-punk-time-blacks-in-punk-new-wave-and-hardcore-1976-1984The true relationship really comes down to early punk and early Hip Hop both being... more

recorded by Shawn Jackinsky on an old busted 4track in winter 2008/2009, Alaska ..... It sounds at turns like floating through space, sitting on an iceberg travelling down a frozen river, wandering across an alien beach at night, walking around a tiny fog-enshrouded rocky lighthouse island, and travelling through the arctic on a dogsled. It is truly a work of art that can be listened to (or rather, slept to) again and again.... http://www.makeahistory.com/index.php/ambient/18757-owlfacerecorded by Shawn Jackinsky on an old busted 4track in winter 2008/2009, Alaska ........ more
