The launch of Apple's iPad 2 on Wednesday left a lot of consumers excited - perhaps none more than those in the adult entertainment industry.
That's because the new iPad, like the latest version of the iPhone and iTouch before it, will feature Apple's signature video chat application FaceTime, which has been adapted for X-rated use by a company called iP4Play.
"iP4Play offers a true two-way audio and video experience like no other where both parties can see and hear each other utilizing the stunning display resolution of the iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad or Apple Mac computer," the company said in a statement on Wednesday.
The service, which launched in August of last year, currently employs roughly 35 women to handle the phones and charges $4.00/minute per call.
Claiming to hold the title of the only adult video chat to operate using FaceTime, iP4Play says it has tens of thousands of users and sees roughly 30% growth in its client base every month.

"The return rate of our customers is pretty encouraging too," said Travis Falstad, 37, the company's Co-Founder and Managing Director. "Our typical first-time customer returns 65-70% of the time."
"Our typical user is male, 25-40, and on the more technical side," Falstad told the Daily News. "In the early days it was a lot of guys who worked at large tech companies trying out the service. We get the occasional couple. With our international growth, we are starting to get a lot of customers from the UK, New Zealand, Australia - even Saudi Arabia."
Falstad says the company is not yet making money, but is "probably a couple of months away" from being profitable.
The concept of using Apple products for adult content is hardly new. Days after the iPhone 4 went on sale last year, Craigslist ads in at least five cities popped up recruiting girls to participate in video sex chats using the FaceTime application.
Surprisingly, Apple has approved X-rated applications for the iPhone before, such as MyVibe – a vibrator application – which launched in 2009, but the general understanding is that it will not approve the sale of adult apps in the iTunes store. Lucky for iP4Play, it's a 'web service," not an app.
And despite Apple's history of shutting down X-rated content on its platforms, Falstad sees his company's relationship with the tech giant as mutually beneficial.
"We believe Apple is happy to have us out here helping to promote FaceTime. Our customers have the ultimate satisfying experience so we're helping to convert tens of thousands of new FaceTime users," he said. "Adult drives innovation in technology so I think it's a natural fit that's born out by our satisfied customers."
In anticipation of the success this technological advancement will bring, iP4Play welcomed news of the iPad2 yesterday with a day of promotion dubbed "Porn Star Wednesday."
"Any new launch of an apple product is obviously very exciting," said publicist Brian Gross, who represents the adult brand. "For a company like ip4play it gives both the company and the consumer something to get excited about."

The component suppliers of Apple’s iPad have said that the team is going to plan a next-generation ‘iPad 2’ development featuring both a back-mounted and front facing module for the purpose of camera, in the first quarter of 2011, according to Reuters' report.
As first reported on December 9 by tech blog iLounge, Chinese manufacturer Shenzhen MacTop Electronics has created a slimmer iPad case with a rear-facing camera hole, which it says will fit the second-generation device. The iLounge posting came with an image of the case, which also features a larger speaker.
Another tech blog MacRumors also posted another set of images, ostensibly of a second-generation iPad case, with holes for a rear-facing camera and possibly an SD card.
Apple's iPad has taken the world by storm since its introduction in January, winning over millions of fans and providing a much needed boost for a global technology sector still struggling with patchy demand.
Touchscreen chip designer Wintek Corp, battery maker Simplo Technology Co Ltd and AVY Precision, an unlisted maker of covers for electronic products, are among suppliers for the next batch of iPads, four people familiar with the situation told Reuters.
Two could only confirm they were ramping up for a new round of production in the first quarter for components previously supplied for the original iPad, while two said the ramp-up was for a new iPad.
One of those said the revamped model would feature cameras on the front and rear, while the other said the new model would be slimmer, lighter and have a better resolution display.
Camera module makers Genius Electronic Optical Co Ltd and Largan Precision Co Ltd were also starting new supply deals with Apple, two sources said, but neither could confirm for which product the modules were intended.
The iPad is expected to make up for about 70 percent of the 60 million tablet PCs that will be shipped in 2011, brokerage SinoPac Securities said in a note.

With every day that passes we see more and more rumors regarding a smaller iPad model that’s scheduled to arrive soon. The 7-inch Apple iPad, called by somebody the iPad 2, is now said to be here in time for Christmas, according to a major Taiwanese newspaper.
This is the second report of an iPad 2 sighting in Taiwan, and it comes from the island’s Chinese-language Economic Daily News financial newspaper, which was among the first to correctly report that Apple was making a tablet when other news sources said it would be a netbook. The launch of the original iPad proved the paper correct.
Taiwan’s Digitimes newspaper last week reported that Taiwanese companies were starting to assemble a 7-inch iPad for Apple. The Economic Daily reports that Taiwanese companies have won a number of component contracts for the iPad 2.
Chimei Innolux will supply 7-inch LCD screens, which use the same IPS (in-plane switching) technology found in the original iPad, which improves viewing angles and color on LCD screens. Touchscreen technology for the screens will come from Cando Corporation, the report says.
Apple has also tapped Compal Electronics, one of the world’s largest contract laptop computer makers, to assemble the new iPad, the report says. The companies named in the Economic Daily report declined to comment.
