For the first time ever, we polled the entire SOS staff on their favorite TV of the last 12 months. We knew that, given the fact that our contributors are (principally) spread out across Canada, the US, and Britain, that the results might well be a mixed bag. What we didn’t necessarily expect was the level of consensus surrounding the upper quartile of the list. There was a clear groundswell of support for our collective #1, but competition was fierce for the spots just behind it. Here are the 20 best TV shows of 2011, according to the staff as a whole; stay tuned for The Televerse’s year-end wrap-up, in which Kate Kulzick and Simon Howell discuss their respecive favorites – and least favorites – in greater detail.

'Game of Thrones' is currently a hit on HBO in the US and Sky Atlantic in the UK and Ireland (if you got satellite TV), but one viewer's argument in Florida over the show ended up violent.
Michael Podniestrzanski was charged with domestic battery to his cousin Joshua Ross, arguing over who is going to win in a battle. According to police reports, Podniestrzanski threw a punch at his cousin and threw him out of the window. Ouch, should've read the book...

Bill and Fleur aren't the only newlyweds in "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows" -- there's another happy couple in the Order of the Phoenix with some news of their own. Remus Lupin and Nymphadora Tonks, played by David Thewlis and Natalia Tena, have a baby on the way, something that's only hinted at in Part 1 (out on DVD April 15). Come Part 2 (out in theaters July 15), there's some hard decisions that the couple has to make, especially when it comes to the final battle. Thewlis and Tena reveal what was cut out of the first half, which they hope is developed in the second.

HBO released a featurette stuffed with clips and some background information for the series. It mixes historical epic in a fantasy landscape, but with less supernatural LOTR elements than you'd expect.
The actors and author of the book series explain the plot and the character motivations, which are summed as tensions between many households one throne and two growing threats (dangerous winter and exiles growing in power).
