"Ohio Gov. John Kasich (R) is being investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation for allegations that he accepted bribes and used political appointments to reward or punish those that helped or hurt his allies. Kasich has never been thought of as particularly ethical, but these allegations are beyond what we've seen in the past:
A developing story out of Ohio is getting the attention of the progressive press: the FBI is currently investigating claims that Governor John Kasich made promises of political influence and threatened the jobs of those who would not help him replace those in power with his cronies.
Two months ago, Portage County Republican Party Chairman Andrew Manning asked the FBI to investigate the situation after he was offered influence in state government appointments in exchange for stepping down and allowing one of Kasich’s operatives to take his position. Manning’s attorney, David R. Langdon, announced yesterday that the FBI is indeed investigating the claims. In a statement Langdon said,
“FBI agents interviewed Andrew Manning last week. He answered questions about the statements in his affidavit, which he sent to the Justice Department in March of this year, that top allies of Gov. John Kasich offered him special influence over gubernatorial appointments if he agreed not to run for the state GOP central committee.”
He will have no further comment until the investigation has concluded.
According to PlunderBund, this complaint led to several other Ohio GOP figures making similar claims:
Manning’s request to the FBI and local law enforcement was the first in a series of complaints claiming Kasich and his allies used intimidation, threats and promises of influence in order to get their own people on the State Central Committee to vote out former Committee Chairman Kevin DeWine.
While Manning’s complaint focused on Governor’s office employees Ben Kaiser and David Luketic, as well as Alex Arshinkoff (Summit County GOP Chairman) and Bryan Williams (Ohio Board of Education), other complaints have since surfaced against the Governor’s closest allies Doug Preisse and Jai Chabria as well as Mary Taylor and her chief of staff.

So here's what happened. I wrote this song as a new labor anthem in 2008 and issued it on an album in 2009. But, as much as it was for them, I meant it to be about more than just the current organizational structures for working people. The One Big Union idea, since it was the mantra of the IWW, has for a long time been about the permanent popular offset to entrenched institutional power so often run by bad people with sociopathic motives, aka corporations and faux "public interest" organizations bankrolled by wealthy despots to proselytize the notion that their despotism is a good thing.
Those people, those institutions, have successfully winnowed the numbers of the organized. The Randroids are ascendent in America, telling us that ALL collectivity is heretical communism. But thing about that is, our collectivity is not something up for debate, as viciously as they choose to argue it, as much money as the Kochs, Chambers of Commerce, ALECs and corrupt Supreme Court justices can dump into the message. "Government is collectivity, common sense is heresy, the GI Bill is a communism, rich people paying an extra .02 percent in taxes is theft and violence. You are you and only you, you exist in a vacuum, fuck everyone else."
Except antisocial behavior simply flies in the face of society. We are all a system, which is part of other systems. One Big Union is what cures us of their predations, and what shouts down their sociopathic marketing. It is what gives us a sense of community when financial machinations and shameless propaganda insist we are alone and that we should shut up and pull ourselves up by our own damn bootstraps.
In Wisconsin, in Egypt and Tunisia, in Occupy Wall Street and its affiliate actions around the U.S. and the world, I saw people pulling each other up by each OTHER's damn bootstraps. Look what happened. I saw this song realized anew. Brave people claimed it and made it more vital. I owed them something.
I have never worked in visual media but it dawned on me I really had no choice. I taught myself iMovie and I made this. I hope it is worthy of the amazing things people have done this year in the name of forwarding civil society everywhere.

"Issue 2 was defeated by a nearly whopping 23-point margin. Regardless of the margin, last night was historic as no Governor of Ohio has ever seen voters repeal any portion of their agenda within the first year in office...is itself incredibly rare...this is the only time it worked. So even a one-vote victory...would have been historic. A twenty-point margin, by comparison, just looked like overkill.”

Last month, Ohio Gov. John Kasich’s (R) approval ratings plummeted to 30 percent after just two months in office. Kasich has repeatedly balked at transparency, reneged on his own promises to vulnerable constituents, insulted law enforcement and minorities, and muscled through a highly unpopular anti-union bill that dramatically restricts 350,000 workers’ rights.
In response to Kasich’s disastrous reign, Democratic state Reps. Mike Foley and Bob Hagan will introduce legislation this week to make Ohio the 20th state to allow voters to remove and replace state officials, including the governor and legislators. The legislation requires a petition signed by 15 percent of the votes cast for that office in the last election. In Kasich’s case, they would need more than 577,870 signatures. While acknowledging that the bill is unlikely to pass in a GOP-led legislature, Hagan said Ohioans deserved a chance to recall a governor who is “hurting the people in this state”:
State Rep. Robert Hagan, a Youngstown Democrat, cited what he called “an attack on working people, an attack on organized labor, an attack on the ability to collectively bargain” as reasons he’s co-sponsoring the measure. He said it also had to a lot to do with Gov. John Kasich.
“He’s dividing the state,” Hagan said. “He’s hurting the people in this state and we think that this legislation that will be offered will go to the heart of those constituents and voters who have grown disenchanted with this governor.[...]
Hagan said he did not expect the legislation to pass. But, he added, “I think that they would be foolish not to have some hearings and have this discussion. I think it would be even more foolish for them to stand in the way.” [...]
“People wanted to know why if they can do it in Wisconsin, why can’t they do it in Ohio — why can’t we do it in Ohio,” Foley said. “They wanted that same right here in Ohio.”
In Wisconsin, 16 senators “face possible recalls for their actions on the bill which limits collective bargaining by public employee unions.” Four, so far, have enough signatures to face recall elections. Wisconsin’s Gov. Scott Walker (R) can face recall in January of 2012. In Arizona, Gov. Jan Brewer’s (R) outlandishly radical moves have spurred Arizonans to start a recall effort against her. And as ThinkProgress’s Ian Millhiser points out, Michiganders can recall Gov. Rick Snyder (R) this July for an attack on workers’ rights similar to Kasich’s.
Should Ohio’s recall bill fail, the state’s citizenry does have a “fall back option” to write the power of recall into the Ohio Constitution by collecting almost 400,000 signatures of registered voters. Kasich, however, rebuffed any recall effort as sheer politics. Viewing his record as “pretty remarkable,” Kasich said, “I don’t care about a lot of the other political things that go on.” His spokesman Rob Nichols called the proposal “gutter politics” and “borderline absurd.”

Ohio Governor's Office Art Exhibition Opportunity
Signorino, Kathy
to OAC, Ken
Dear Ohio Artist:
We are contacting you today to tell you about a wonderful exhibition opportunity. Since 1985 the Ohio Arts Council (OAC) has assisted in placing artwork by Ohio artists and Ohio cultural institutions in the Governor’s Residence and throughout the Governor’s offices. Governor John Kasich and his staff have contacted the OAC with the desire to continue this tradition of displaying Ohio artists’ work in the Governor’s office located in the Vern Riffe Center for Government and the Arts in downtown Columbus.
We are contacting Ohio artists who work in painting, drawing, photography and mixed media for this year’s exhibition. A landscape theme has been selected and the goal of the program is to feature images that represent the various regions of the state. Only two-dimensional work is being considered due to the space limitations within the Governor’s office.
A panel representing the Governor’s office, two museum/gallery directors and a member of the Ohio Arts Council staff will jury the submissions. All works should be available for a one year loan from time of selection. Artists interested in submitting artwork for consideration should complete the attached form and send a disc of images of the available pieces to the address below.
The deadline for submission is April 22, 2011. Please send all information to:
Ken Emerick/Kathy Signorino
Ohio Arts Council
30 E. Broad Street, 33rd Floor
Columbus, Ohio 43215-3414
We hope that you will be interested in participating in this opportunity to highlight the amazing artists and artwork being created in our state to the Governor, members of the Governor’s office, legislators and citizens. If you should have any questions please contact Ken Emerick at ken.emerick@oac.state.oh.us
Sincerely,
Julie S. Henahan

2. Okay first bullet point is the sites differ,..weird No notice? i've been a member of OAC hmm about a year and a half?!, and originally to better understand and perhaps be eligible to Ohio artists grants(because i have some incredible, and innovative artistic developments and events that will be and could be beneficial to the state perhaps I've mentioned before?) and to better understand the state artists grants they tirelessly DEFUND! So after many scathing reports and outspoken voice of mine about my non-support of or agreement with this administrative state govt.(I mean its really well known?!)_To my surprise ,, i got this e-mail ...then after closer inspection,...a little research and some common sense i was aghast..! Look at the conflicting addresses ,ok,now look who it was sent to me from and who its supposedly signed from...got it...now google those names and you'll obviously see the contradiction and blatant hidden agenda,
3. they have defunded through the Governor's new budget the OAC the Ohio art's council and laid off all workers,... k... then who signed my letter?!
4. and who's Ken and why's it forwarded and why's there a answering service no oAC office and is unreachable although they are saying it's the OAC ...is it...?
5. why when i go to OAC's website there's no mention of governors art show only them being cut and all operations are cut 20%(by the Gov.) so obviously their letter you read^ was falsified resent from a laid off administrator or,,... insidiously as it sounds they are trying to link me and the Governor who staunchly I oppose and well you see how this could play out? don't you?
6. the new Oac Appointee from a extension sent me this,... Do they think Im fool ready to be exploited???(keeping in mind last grant there's only 1 every 2 years for fine artist painters in the whole state a 5000$ piss ant grant9only spent on specified materials and only so much on tools??? why!?)I dont have exspenses??) that when i inspected was so difficult to format and submit it literally was not worth the added hardware payment to tech or whatever it was believe me and im tech savvy... possible? not quite a total scam...
7. so I have never bothered and have always considered art grants at least in Ohio a Insiders game so to my surprise all they need is a cd with my art ... weird now its strangely simple....
8. what I'm supposed to believe in my desire for them to RENT my art will throw all moral and civic convictions I may have aside for profit I am not that guy , sorry..,,, need your opinion am I being to harsh or protective of a hostile exploitation and then Pr campaign I'm surely likely to be subjected to . Ridiculous for what,.,..? arts cut... my world and society ruined .....I'm sorry..(they gotta be f**king wit me right?)
9. I must respectfully ask for your opinion, just cause many around me want me to do this, i can tell you now ain't gonna happen cause my duty as a human comes first can I rightfully even support by "renting " my art to King,..Kasich or am I being set up seriously...this is really messing with me I would love to know what you think notice the addresses are different the offices are unreachable and I'm really about to leave the freaking country what shall I do?
10. Last point How could they have contacted the OAC office to institute this program when they no longer exist other than the blog and answer service? Don't think im debating doing it even the thought of some subliminal art in the state house or even my recycled eco-art gives me smiles, But I can NOT in clear conscience support the demise of our Great Nation ,for my personal gain in that I'm committed,.. Your input please ?
Rest assured i wanna know your opinion but, I'm boycotting it either way... and your the first to knowThis strange e-mail came to me I'd like to share it and discuss the implications... more

The Kasich Seven and the Ghost of Lehman
By Ring of Truth
The cornerstone of John Kasich’s campaign are 633 major givers of $1,000 or more in the FIRE (financial, insurance and real estate) business sector – many of them with Wall Street connections. (See “Wall Street, FIRE” article adjacent to this blog.) Among them are the “Kasich Seven” – former Lehman executives now with other financial firms, who have two ties to John Kasich.
1. The “Kasich Seven” contributed from $2,000 to $5,000 each to the Kasich campaign since 2009.
2. Like Kasich, they were former Lehman Brothers executives or associates before or during Kasich’s eight years at the firm.
For example, the two biggest contributors to Kasich among the “Kasich Seven” are Michael j. Odrich and Stuart Francis, each of whom gave $5,000 – far above the average of $3,647 for a major FIRE contributor to Kasich and nearly 15 times the $345 for the average Kasich contributor overall.
Odrich was the head of Lehman Brothers Private Equity business two years ago this week. Living in Greenwich, Connecticut, he is now the Managing Director and Global Head of Alvarez & Marsal Capital, which is currently running Lehman Brothers in bankruptcy and reforming it as Lamco. (See adjacent article Ghost of Lehman linking a breaking story from the Los Angeles Times on September 11, 2010.)
Francis was the Vice Chairman of Lehman Brothers and is now the Vice Chair of Barclay’s Capital, the British firm that bought Lehman Brothers assets in 2008. Living in Burlingame, California, Francis was quoted in the Columbus Dispatch as saying he worked closely with Kasich at Lehman Brothers and the newspaper reported Kasich “had access to important people and was able to set up meetings, but did more than that.”
OK, Come Clean, John Kasich... and answer a few questions about the Lehman Seven. The Truth will set you free – and the rest of Ohioans too:
How much do you know about the new Ghost of Lehman firm – Lamco – and what does Lamco expect of you as governor of Ohio?
What were your relationships with all of the Kasich Seven at Lehman Brothers?
And what are your relationships now that would prompt these particular seven former Lehman executives to become major donors to your campaign for governor?
What would they want from you if you became governor? The Kasich Seven and the Ghost of Lehman
