HP’s Small and Medium Business division sent out an e-mail to its customers who placed orders but did not receive shipment of the now-discontinued TouchPad. The company told its customers that it will start fulfilling their orders at the promised discounted price – $99 – in about six to eight weeks. The e-mail was sent directly at SMB customers only, and does not apply to other customers who might have unfulfilled orders from the regular home channel.
The time frame shows that the company would be fulfilling the said orders by the end of October, which is similar to the company’s stated intent of shipping a new batch of units by the end of its current fiscal quarter. HP has not yet unveiled the quantity of unfulfilled orders for the webOS tablet, but it is said that the firm or its suppliers had enough parts and inventory on hand to build at least 100,000 TouchPad.HP’s Small and Medium Business division sent out an e-mail to its customers who... more

I’m still kind of shocked about Hewlett-Packard Co.’s decision to exit the smartphone and tablet arena.
It’s unclear as to what will happen to its PC business, as a separate company for computers is being considered. Then its focus would be on helping customers manage information, along with printing, servers, storage and a few other services. But even that forward-looking explanation is a little murky.
HP’s announcement came with a lot of big words being tossed about, such as “strategic alternatives” and “application ecosystems.”
As you read further into the announcement, you’ll run across “exploration of the separation.”
The one thing I do understand is that all the transactions should be complete in about 12-18 months.
As for the other explanations, the best I can figure is that when the going got tough in the smartphone and tablet market, the tough got gone.
