I just want to make sure everyone understands the impact of Jack Davis on last night's election. Some folks are saying that Jack Davis picked off just enough votes to keep Corwin from winning. Not a bad assumption, as it makes sense that candidates with similar views cannibalize the vote, but an assumption all the same, and a wrong one at that. If you look at polls leading up to the election, you'll see that as we got closer to last night's election, Davis's support was steadily eroding. One would think anyone supporting an erstwhile Tea Party candidate would more naturally gravitate to the republican candidate. Makes sense, since the Tea Party is an offshoot of the republican party. But looking at polls. one sees something different.
In late April, Davis was polling 23%. He came out of the election with 9%. A loss of 14%
Corwin went from 36% in late April to 42% on election day. An additional 3%
Hochul went from 31% to 48%. An addition of 17%
So even though Davis lost more than half his support, most of that support did NOT go to Corwin. So you'll have to find another reason to explain why all these republicans decided to vote for someone else.

Heavy turnout is never good for the incumbent. The Democrat might actually win this one. And just for those who think the tea bagger candidate is cannibalizing the rethuglican, take a look at the poll numbers over time. You'll see that as the tea bagger has slipped in the polls, the beneficiary of those lost votes have actually gone to the Democrat. Not even many republican voters want any piece of Ryan's budget.Heavy turnout is never good for the incumbent. The Democrat might actually win this... more

He know what state he represents and Ryan's plan for Medicare in Massachusetts, as in most states, is a non-starter. If expects to retain that seat, he better behind his constituents and he knows it.He know what state he represents and Ryan's plan for Medicare in Massachusetts,... more
