On June 16th, The ANSWER Coalition in LA held an event titled "Eyewitness Libya" with Cynthia McKinney, part of Cynthia's nation-wide tour to continue to propagate Gaddafi's lies. Members of the Libyan community in LA were prevented from entering the room in which the event was being held, on the basis of "seeming like they may cause trouble". They stood outside as others were allowed in, although many of them were invited to the public event. It was ironic that an event discussing the situation in Libya did not host any Libyans to speak in the panel or even allow Libyans to enter the room to participate in the discussion. On June 16th, The ANSWER Coalition in LA held an event titled "Eyewitness... more

An online campaign has called on women who hold international driving licences to start driving on Saudi Arabian roads on 17 June. The "Women2Drive" campaign has used Facebook and Twitter to encourage women to drive as part of their normal daily activities rather than converge in one place. "Not allowing women behind the wheel in Saudi Arabia is an immense barrier to their freedom of movement, and severely limits their ability to carry out everyday activities as they see fit, such as going to work or the supermarket, or picking up their children from school," said Philip Luther, Amnesty International's Deputy Director for the Middle East and North Africa. "Saudi Arabian authorities must not arrest licensed women drivers who choose to drive, and must grant them the same driving privileges as men. "This is just one example of so many areas of life where women in Saudi Arabia have their human rights and their agency denied." [1] Last month, women activists in Saudi Arabia launched the Women2Drive campaign on Facebook, calling on Saudi women with international or foreign drivers' licenses to get behind the wheel of a car on June 17 and demand the right to drive. An online campaign has called on women who hold international driving licences to... more
