We protest the G-8 and NATO, but not Bilderberg. Why?
Wednesday, May 16, 2012 - 17:57 By David Swanson
Do you have to be xenophobic, paranoid, isolationist, or libertarian to protest a secretive gathering of over 100 billionaires, industrialists, media barons, and politicians working to shape our public sphere, or has the left dropped the ball? Is it time for Occupy to step in?
From May 31 to June 3, 2012, at the Westfields Marriott Washington Dulles Hotel, in Chantilly, Va., the Bilderberg Group is expected to gather behind closed doors. This exclusive club will rent the entire hotel, encircle it with armed guards, and keep everyone far away, including the media -- except for those special members of the media who will take part but never report a word of what goes on.
Wikipedia calls Bilderberg: "an annual, unofficial, invitation-only conference of approximately 120 to 140 guests from North America and Western Europe, most of whom are people of influence. About one-third are from government and politics, and two-thirds from finance, industry, labour, education and communications. Meetings are closed to the public."
Bilderberg calls itself: "leading citizens on both sides of the Atlantic that Western Europe and North America" who hold "regular, off-the-record discussions" of "common problems - from trade to jobs, from monetary policy to investment, from ecological challenges to the task of promoting international security. . . . There usually are about 120 participants of whom about two-thirds come from Europe and the balance from North America. About one-third is from government and politics, and two-thirds from finance, industry, labour, education and communications."
Does this group of "leading citizens" look representative of the people's interests?
Bilderberg says this was its agenda four years ago:
* Cyber-terrorism * A Nuclear-Free World * Managing Financial Turbulence * US Foreign Policy Without Change * How Serious Are the Threats on Our Economies * Islam in Europe * Africa * Afghanistan, Challenge for the West * Iran-Pakistan * A Look at the Future * The Mounting Threat of Protectionism * Russia * After Bush: The Future of US-EU Relations * Current Affairs: US Elections
Scholars have credited Bilderberg with significant influence in all sorts of disastrous policies from NAFTA to the current push for war with Iran.
One analysis comes from Andrew Kakabadse, a management professor at the UK's Cranfield University:
"There is no conspiracy in Kakabadse's eyes, as Bilderberg has no formal influence whatsoever. 'On the other hand, it has the most tremendous influence since it shapes opinions at the highest levels. Bilderberg is for leaders what the annual medical conference is for doctors. In the latter, certain delegates are more active than others and at some stage the prevailing medical thinking is driven in one particular direction. These regular meetings shape the way the dominant medical theory and practice develops, to the point that the way things are going feels normal and nobody asks for the alternative to the dominant medical paradigms anymore.' The same can be said for world leadership, Kakabadse argues.
"British journalist Jon Ronson, who was invited to a conference by Bilderberg organisers, described the relationship between conference organisers and aspiring political leaders in attendance: 'They'll get an up-and-coming politician who they think may be president or prime minister one day, and as globalist industrialist leaders who believe that politics shouldn't be in the hands of politicians, they try and influence them with wise words in the corridors outside sessions.' Kakabadse calls this process 'smart power'. The shaping of the prevailing opinions amongst the world's leading decision-makers is 'so smart that people don't even know that they are being led', he says. 'In the end, they don't even realise that there are alternative questions to be asked.'"
Is this healthy for democracy?
Or is there a desperate need here for somebody to be mic checked? We protest the G-8 and NATO, but not Bilderberg. Why?

Newly Discovered Homeland Security Files Show Feds Central to Occupy Crackdown
"Fusion Centers, a post-9-11 creation, are a federally-funded joint project of the DHS and the US Justice Department which are designed to share intelligence information among such federal agencies as the DHS, the FBI, the CIA and the US Military, as well as state and local police agencies. By their nature they are designed to circumvent legal constraints on various agencies, for example the ban on CIA domestic spying, or the Posse Comitatus Act, which bars active military activity within the borders of the US. There are currently 72 Fusion Centers around the US."

In 1962, President Kennedy signed a proclamation which designated May 15th as a national day to celebrate and remember fallen police officers. The surrounding week would become known as “National Police Week,” which some can easily compare to the Discovery channel’s “shark week.” While government officials see the police as graceful unappreciated public servants, many within the general public view the force as a dangerous and easily provoked pack of predators.
The week of events, sponsored by the Grand Lodge of the Fraternal Order of Police, is estimated to draw anywhere from 25,000 to 40,000 law enforcement officers to Washington DC. Events include a candle light vigil and seminars in support of authoritarianism. The events, which are open to all law enforcement, “provide a unique opportunity to meet others that share a common brotherhood,” according to policeweek.org.
Local police stations around the country will be holding their own ceremonies and self congratulatory events through out the week as well.
President Obama has signed a Presidential proclamation honoring the nation’s “peace keepers” and has declared the week of May 13-19 as a week of honor and celebration of the many “fallen heroes.” The proclamation directs citizens “to observe these events with appropriate ceremonies and activities,” and directs governors and US territories to lower their flags to half staff on May 15.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, BARACK OBAMA, President of the United States of America, do hereby proclaim May 15, 2012, as Peace Officers Memorial Day and May 13 through May 19, 2012, as Police Week. I call upon all Americans to observe these events with appropriate ceremonies and activities. I also call on Governors of the United States and the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, officials of the other territories subject to the jurisdiction of the United States, and appropriate officials of all units of government, to direct that the flag be flown at half staff on Peace Officers Memorial Day. I further encourage all Americans to display the flag at half staff from their homes and businesses on that day.
While the President and his sheeple praise the nation’s armed forces, over 7,200 peaceful ‘Occupy’ protesters have been arrested in less than one year, with the majority of those arrests being carried out with a high level of violence. The President has remained silent on the issue of police brutality throughout his Presidency, ignoring the calls of the people to at least make a statement to attempt to end the violence. Back in November, Obama was ‘mic-checked’ by a group of Occupy protesters during a speech in New Hampshire. After hearing that thousands of people have been arrested for protesting, the Obama zombies in the audience began to chant his name as a method of silencing the collective voice of reason. Once the chants stopped, the President brushed the experience off his shoulders and continued on to speak about “having coffee with some of their neighbors.”
Many have noticed a major shift in police actions since the start of the Occupy movement back in September. With many media outlets underselling the vast support of the movement aimed at correcting financial inequality around the globe, the police seem to working in tandem with the media to silence dissent. From the mass arrests on a New York City bridge to the war-like scenes in Oakland, it’s clear that this movement poses a real threat to the status quo. It’s for that reason that the federal government has been arming local police stations with millions of dollars worth of crowd control gear and training. The media and government officials will continue to show images of revolutions in other countries while ignoring the revolution brewing right under their noses in a failing attempt to derail the progress of mass awakening that has already begun. The time of two party politics is nearing it’s end, and true freedom is within reaching distance. No matter how hard Obama and his “peace keepers” push back, the people will rise in solidarity and build a new civilization around their falling structures and rules.
And by all means, fuck the police.

Documents Show How White House and Democrats Worked to Protect the Banks Against Protests. A new trove of heavily redacted documents provided by the US Department of Homeland Security (DHS) in response to a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request filed by the Partnership for Civil Justice Fund (PCJF) on behalf of filmmaker Michael Moore and the National Lawyers Guild makes it increasingly evident that there was and is a nationally coordinated campaign to disrupt and crush the Occupy Movement.
The new documents, which PCJF National Director Mara Verheyden-Hilliard insists “are likely only a subset of responsive materials,” in the possession of federal law enforcement agencies, only “scratch the surface of a mass intelligence network including Fusion Centers, saturated with ‘anti-terrorism’ funding, that mobilizes thousands of local and federal officers and agents to investigate and monitor the social justice movement.”
Nonetheless, blacked-out and limited though they are, she says they offer clues to the extent of the government’s concern about and focus on the wave of occupations that spread across the country beginning with last September’s Occupy Wall Street action in New York City.

Dear Congressman Paul,
You have fought an amazing battle for what you believe in. Because of your passionate, deeply-held views, you have devoted yourself to inspiring millions of people who have looked to you for your tenacious, honest approach to governance.
Although you and I disagree on a number of matters, we agree wholeheartedly on certain fundamentals, concerning which we need to keep up our fight:
- That our nation has no business building an empire, with disastrous effects to our own nation and to others.
- That government becomes a major threat to individual rights and liberties when it engages in outrages such as indefinite detention and the assassination of U.S. citizens without due process.
- That private banks can not be allowed any longer to control U.S. monetary policy through the Federal Reserve.
Please continue speaking out on these issues and keep in mind that millions of people around the country – even those who disagree with you on certain issues – view you as a man of tremendous conviction and integrity.
Thank you for the sacrifices you have made – and for the example you have set for those who have been looking for real leadership and authenticity in our nation’s elected officials.
I wish you the very best and hope we can work together to bring about a healthier, safer, more peaceful world.
With gratitude,
Rocky Anderson

The Dodd-Frank Rules, so hated by the banks and by Republicans, would have saved JP Morgan from a $2 billion loss. Mr. Romney, will you now support Dodd-Frank and the Volcker Rule? Will you do all you can to protect the American economy from the reckless practices of the financial sector? Like bugs mesmerized by the light, it seems they can’t help themselves.

Watching Occupy Wallstreet being disbanded by the police looked like the end of a movement to many people. The human torture was mostly ignored…Watching Occupy Wallstreet being disbanded by the police looked like the end of a... more

Despite a judge’s order to hand over the tweets of The New Inquiry Senior Editor Malcolm Harris, who was arrested in October marching with Occupy protesters across the Brooklyn Bridge, Twitter is fighting for the principle that its users own their communications and should determine what to do with them. —PZS
BBC:
Mr Harris’s lawyer had tried to block access to the postings, but a judge ruled that once the messages had been sent they became the property of Twitter, meaning the defendant was not protected by Fourth Amendment protection against unlawful search and seizure.
Twitter’s lawyers argued that the judge had misunderstood how the service worked, noting that the Stored Communications Act gave its members the right to challenge requests for information on their user history.
