By Sherry Pasquarello,Worldwidehippies - I know what Memorial Day is and what it stands for. Back in the day, schools taught actual civics classes. I’m not sure what passes for civics now a days. I’m also fairly certain that if you are a World Wide Hippies reader that you too know what this day stands for. I wish some of our congress critters knew (or cared).By Sherry Pasquarello,Worldwidehippies - I know what Memorial Day is and what it... more

“When the poet stands at nadir the world must indeed be upside-down. If the poet can no longer speak for society, but only for himself, then we are at the last ditch.”— Excerpt from, The Time of the Assassins, a study of Rimbaud, by Henry Miller“When the poet stands at nadir the world must indeed be upside-down. As for the rest of your questions, at first I didn’t think I could answer them. They reminded me too much of an essay test in school. Plus it’s not exactly pleasant to remember back on all this stuff, you know. I’m trying to leave it behind and start a new life.
But I kept thinking about it and finally decided I would forget the questions and just write about what happened. Like you said, people should know about this. Don’t give anybody my address, though. The army still wants to put me in prison. As for the rest of your questions, at first I didn’t think I could answer them.... more

Regardless of the dissembling of corporate state propagandists, free market capitalism has always been a government subsidized, bubble-inflating, swindlers’ game, in which, psychopathic personalities (not “job creators” but con job perpetrators) thrive. By the exploitation of the many, a ruthless few have amassed large amounts of capital by which they dominate mainstream narratives and compromise elected and governmental officials, thereby gaming the system for their benefit.Regardless of the dissembling of corporate state propagandists, free market capitalism... more

Less than a month after Occupy Wall Street began, a group was gathered in New York’s historical Washington Square Park, in the heart of Greenwich Village. This was a moment of critical growth for the movement, with increasing participation from the thousands of students attending the cluster of colleges and universities there.Less than a month after Occupy Wall Street began, a group was gathered in New... more

– The weather sucks. It’s normal for this time of year in the Northwest and it will only get worse. I can’t help but think of the people Occupying Seattle and how uncomfortable they must be. I admire them for their commitment and perseverance. When I think that our weather is fairly temperate compared to the Northeast and other parts of the country, my heart goes out to all those brave men and women who are occupying cities and towns, large and small, all across America and the world. They are trying to stand their ground on behalf of the rest of us.– The weather sucks. It’s normal for this time of year in the Northwest... more

- For days now, we have endured demonstrably false propaganda that the fallen soldiers of U.S. wars sacrificed their lives for “our freedoms.” Yet, as that noxious nonsense still lingers in the air, militarized police have invaded OWS sites in numerous cities, including Zuccotti Park in Lower Manhattan, and, in the boilerplate description of the witless courtesans of the corporate media, with the mission to “evict the occupiers”.- For days now, we have endured demonstrably false propaganda that the fallen soldiers... more

I live in Lake County, Illinois. Lake country is the wealthiest county in Illinois, having the highest per capita income in the state. It borders Cook County, the home of Chicago. Most of the downtown financial magnates are living either on Lake Shore Drive, or in the suburbs in Lake County. Politically, it has been rather centrist, with the Congressmen for the districts flipping between Democrat and Republican. The population is 80% white according to the latest census figures.I live in Lake County, Illinois. Lake country is the wealthiest county in Illinois,... more

I hope your President wont mind me re-writing his “Press Release” but I am sure that this is what he meant to say.

Until recent events proved otherwise, the hyper-commercialized surface of the corporate state gave the appearance of being too diffuse–too devoid of a center to pose a threat of totalitarian excess. Accordingly, as of late, due to the violent response to OWS protesters by local police departments in Oakland, Atlanta, Chicago, and in other U.S. cities, the repressive nature of the faux republic is beginning to be revealed.Until recent events proved otherwise, the hyper-commercialized surface of the... more

– The recognition of three women in the Nobel Peace Prizes announced earlier this month came as a welcome variation to the long list of male names, but it also begged the question why women so rarely get the prize, and why when they do, they have to share it.– The recognition of three women in the Nobel Peace Prizes announced earlier... more

The conservatives are in panic mode, desperate and pulling out all the stops. They’re throwing money all around creation. They’re hammering legislation through. They’re evoking ghosts of the past, making threats, wrapping themselves in the armor of religion, a few are even arming themselves.
