By Sherry Pasquarello,Worldwidehippies - I know what Memorial Day is and what it stands for. Back in the day, schools taught actual civics classes. I’m not sure what passes for civics now a days. I’m also fairly certain that if you are a World Wide Hippies reader that you too know what this day stands for. I wish some of our congress critters knew (or cared).By Sherry Pasquarello,Worldwidehippies - I know what Memorial Day is and what it... more

Just a few thoughts about, “dirty” words that came to me last night.
I was at a meeting last evening. We hold it once a month in the back room of a pub. So we do get a lot of the noise from the bar filter in when the place gets crowded. It’s funny, but the background noise is unintelligible till someone swears. It’s “fuzzafuzzafuzza,FUCK!”Just a few thoughts about, “dirty” words that came to me last night.

– I went to see my little granddaughter in her yearly dance recital. She loves to dance and for just turning 8 years old she is pretty good at tap. The important thing is that she loves doing it. She has fun.– I went to see my little granddaughter in her yearly dance recital. She loves... more

I was down at my friend’s pub this afternoon for a party and after things had started to quiet down (yes, it was a FUN party) I decided to put on my reporter hat and do a little impromptu field work. I got my little note pad out of my trusty canvas messenger bag and a pen ( The pen was almost out of ink and made me look less than serious, but…)I was down at my friend’s pub this afternoon for a party and after things had... more

A friend of mine stopped by the other day. I hadn’t seen him since last summer. He travels almost constantly for his job. When he is home he and his family spend as much time together as they can. I consider him a REALLY great guy. Not too many of those have been in my life. Not too many really great people in most people’s lives.A friend of mine stopped by the other day. Last night was the end of the little scholarship committee from a small fraternal organization I belong to. I’m still feeling a little sad over that. It’s been running for 11 years and I’ve belonged through most of those years. The Ladies aux. will be taking it over in a smaller form and for that I am grateful.Last night was the end of the little scholarship committee from a small fraternal... more

I am thoroughly and most completely confused now. I thought I understood the different ways that states conduct their primaries, I knew about voting and caucuses and straw polls. At least I thought I did. Caucuses and straw polls did seem a bit strange to me because here in Pennsylvania we just go and vote for the candidate we choose. My only complaint here was and still is, if you register as an Independent you can’t vote in a primary.I am thoroughly and most completely confused now. I thought I understood the different... more

This is a link to one of Pittsburgh’s news stations. It’s a story on local charter schools that have just mind bogglingly bad scores. These for profit, government funded schools have been cropping up like toadstools thanks to the underfunding and deliberate (to me) sabotaging and demonization of our nation’s public school system. This is a link to one of Pittsburgh’s news stations. It’s the day after the Fla. Republican primary as I write this. I’m writing at 9 in the morning before I listen to any of the paid yakkers spin and try to out clever each other. - I watched the SOTU speech- BRAVO! The President’s speech was masterful. He turned every bogus Republican talking point around and took them away from them. Pretty smart!

– I swear, big screen TV sets breed in bars and pubs, diners and waiting rooms in hospitals and such. There are more and more of them everywhere I go. Yep- STILL not done with this saga! Now, I wrote before about the LARGE bill for a small benign tumor under the skin. It was outpatient surgery and it was really over in a short amount of time.
My point then was the large cost and that while I have insurance that covered most of the hospital bill but none of the doctor visit bills, I wondered about those that have no insurance.Yep- STILL not done with this saga! Now, I wrote before about the LARGE bill for a... more

Oh you know the words. We all know the words to the song. Nice thoughts.
Impractical, pretty much impossible but I couldn’t even imagine it. I’d listen, oh I still listen to the words every time it comes on the oldies station now(oh please, the OLDIES STATION!) but to allow my thoughts to fasten themselves up with those words like buttoning a warm coat on a raw day. No, why give myself the hope of a world like that one?Oh you know the words. We all know the words to the song. Nice thoughts.... more
