A video of a 15-year-old Maryland girl who effectively argued for the Second Amendment and against gun control to state lawmakers in three succinct minutes and who holds political aspirations has gone viral.
More than 1.5 million have clicked on it on YouTube in just a week's time. In the video, Sarah Merkle told lawmakers that she had been shooting for years and is now proficient enough to one day seek scholarships to universities for her firearms abilities. Strict gun control laws, however, could put a halt to that, she said.
Sarah Merkle, on the video: "Because of [my gun background] I have become eligible for various shooting scholarships around the country to a wide array of even the most prestigious colleges that have shooting teams," she said in the video. "Achieving stricter gun control laws would obliterate any opportunity I could have had to attend a decent college on a shooting scholarship."
And she added: People are the problems, not guns."Chicago, Illinois has had some of the strictest gun control laws in America enacted in the last few years, and it is currently more as twice as likely for you to be killed in Chicago than in the Afghani war," she said, adding that of the 3,371 killed in Chicago in 11 years, only 37 or 1 percent were killed by rifle.
"So creating gun control legislation that targets 'assault rifles' has statistically proven to only weed out less than 1 percent of the problem if you're lucky," she said.
Fox News reported on Friday that Ms. Merkle hopes to one day become a congresswoman.

After three plus hours of testimony and the agony of parsing definitions during this second hearing of an ordinance violation, Mr. Vern Verduin of Gaines Township wins the right of Free Speech!
Mr. Verduin parked two semi-truck trailers on his 40 acre farm that violated the 20 square feet allowed for political signs. His signs stated: Marxism/Socialism = Poverty and Hunger and Obama’s ‘Mission Accomplished’ : 8% Unemployment 16 Trillion Debt. If the signs advertised his business, the signs could have been twice as big. He was fined for violating the township ordinance after declaring his right to free speech by leaving the signs up.
Gaines Township took legal action against Mr. Verduin in an attempt to force him into compliance. After deliberating permanent vs temporary signs, content based vs content neutral, and debating the definition of vehicular signs, Judge Steven Servaas of 63rd District Court declared Gaines Township’s sign ordinance unconstitutional “because there is a distinction between commercial and political”. The Judge added that the law has to treat commercial and political speech the same. The Township’s ordinance allows a bigger sign to sell a product than a political idea. Constitutionally, this ordinance is upside down. The proper role of government is to protect the rights of the people; one of the most fundamental rights being the First Amendment.
As Mr. Howard VanDenHeuvel, the defendent’s attorney, states: “Political speech is the most valuable type of speech…and should be given the strictest protections.”

Today is the second day in the trial of Kermit Gosnell, the infamous Philadelphia abortionist charged with murdering seven newborn babies and one young woman in a botched abortion due to overdose of anesthesia. Gosnell killed the babies with scissors after they had been born – and he wasn’t the only one.
Adrienne Moton, a former employee of Gosnell, testified for the prosecution. CBS Philadelphia reported her testimony:
"Adrienne Moton broke down several times as she recounted her work at the clinic.
Untrained, she says, she was doing ultrasounds and administering anesthesia within months. And eventually, she has admitted, she snipped the necks of ‘a good ten’ fetuses.”
Kermit Gosnell’s “house of horrors,” otherwise known as the Philadelphia Women's Medical Society, has been well documented, but Gosnell’s defense attorney, Jack McMahon, says that the prosecution is racially motivated.
"This is a targeted, elitist and racist prosecution of a doctor who's done nothing but give (back) to the poor and the people of West Philadelphia…It's a prosecutorial lynching of Dr. Kermit Gosnell."
McMahon’s defense of Gosnell is an outrage. Worlds away from a benevolent community doctor, prosecutors say that police found $250,000 when they raided Gosnell’s home – and for those who can stomach it, the 281-page Grand Jury report lays out just how Gosnell “gave back” to the women of West Philadelphia:
The premises were dirty and unsanitary. Gosnell routinely relied on unlicensed and untrained staff to treat patients, conduct medical tests, and administer medications without supervision. Even more alarmingly, Gosnell instructed unlicensed workers to sedate patients with dangerous drugs in his absence... In addition, he regularly performed abortions beyond the 24-week limit prescribed by law. As a result, viable babies were born. Gosnell killed them by plunging scissors into their spinal cords. He taught his staff to do the same.
This trial begs the question: where was the Pennsylvania Department of Health? According to the Grand Jury report, Gosnell’s clinic had not been inspected for more than 17 years.
After 1993…the Pennsylvania Department of Health abruptly decided, for political reasons, to stop inspecting abortion clinics at all. The politics in question were not anti-abortion, but pro. With the change of administration from Governor Casey to Governor Ridge, officials concluded that inspections would be “putting a barrier up to women” seeking abortions. (pg. 12)
When Governor Bob Casey, a Democrat and a longtime pro-life champion, was replaced by pro-choice Gov. Tom Ridge, a pro-choice Republican, Kermit Gosnell was given free reign.
Now, we know what a “truce” on abortion looks like.Today is the second day in the trial of Kermit Gosnell, the infamous Philadelphia... more

Florida legislators considering a bill to require abortionists to provide medical care to an infant who survives an abortion were shocked during a committee hearing this week when a Planned Parenthood official endorsed a right to post-birth abortion.
Alisa Laport Snow, the lobbyist representing the Florida Alliance of Planned Parenthood Affiliates, testified that her organization believes the decision to kill an infant who survives a failed abortion should be left up to the woman seeking an abortion and her abortion doctor.
"So, um, it is just really hard for me to even ask you this question because I’m almost in disbelief," said Rep. Jim Boyd. "If a baby is born on a table as a result of a botched abortion, what would Planned Parenthood want to have happen to that child that is struggling for life?”
"We believe that any decision that's made should be left up to the woman, her family, and the physician," said Planned Parenthood lobbyist Snow.
Rep. Daniel Davis then asked Snow, "What happens in a situation where a baby is alive, breathing on a table, moving. What do your physicians do at that point?”
"I do not have that information," Snow replied. "I am not a physician, I am not an abortion provider. So I do not have that information.”
Rep. Jose Oliva followed up, asking the Planned Parenthood official, "You stated that a baby born alive on a table as a result of a botched abortion that that decision should be left to the doctor and the family. Is that what you’re saying?”
Again, Snow replied, “That decision should be between the patient and the health care provider.”
“I think that at that point the patient would be the child struggling on the table, wouldn’t you agree?” asked Oliva.
"That’s a very good question. I really don’t know how to answer that," Snow said. "I would be glad to have some more conversations with you about this.”
Later another representative asked Snow, “What objection could you possibly have to obligate a doctor to transport a child born alive to a hospital where it seems to me they would be most likely to be able to survive?”
Snow said Planned Parenthood was concerned about "those situations where it is in a rural health care setting, the hospital is 45 minutes or an hour away, that’s the closest trauma center or emergency room. You know there’s just some logistical issues involved that we have some concerns about.”Florida legislators considering a bill to require abortionists to provide medical care... more

For more than four years, the fawning mainstream coverage of the president has been a national disgrace. The only standard was a double standard, and Obama accepted the adoration and demanded more. Never lacking in self-reverence, he came to believe that he can arbitrarily set the terms of news coverage, and cleverly uses carrots and sticks to get his way.
He doles out interviews and chances to ask questions at news conferences to organizations whose coverage flatters him and promotes his agenda. Critical coverage is met with punishment in the form of complaints and being frozen out. To judge from the results, a cold shoulder from the president spurs more fawning!
Just yesterday, with Congress in recess, Obama emerged to demand that Congress stop looming budget cuts. Never was it mentioned that the automatic plan, known as sequester, was his idea and he signed it into law. Now he calls it a “meat cleaver” and wants Congress to reverse course — and pass even more tax hikes, of course.
He was rewarded with front-page stories across the Web that, to the uninformed, made him look like a leader on a key issue. As The New York Times put it, “Obama Turns up the Pressure for a Deal on Budget Cuts.”
In truth, none of this is entirely new, which is why the bully pulpit is called the bully pulpit. But Obama has used smart stagecraft and the power of the Oval Office to take the practice to a new level, and has paid no price. As if to taunt the frustrated wretches, the president repeatedly proclaims that his administration “is the most transparent in history.”
It’s hubris wrapped in a lie, but it serves to distract from a far more important angle than the dispute over mere access. Too many news organizations are shockingly uncurious about Obama’s second- term agenda. They apparently don’t want to know, and certainly don’t think the public does, either.http://www.nypost.com/p/news/national/obama_obedient_lap_dog_DRQ1tuRbuWEfU5TZjI1hsN... more
