Dear Wayne: Sorry I couldn't make it to the annual meeting. I'm a Life Member and I try to get there every year. But this year is different. If I showed up you'd tried to get me to help you fight a "culture war." But if there is a war going on, you represent the wrong side.
I just watched your speech. I think it's time you dropped this nonsense about protecting our "rights." Be honest and tell it like it is. The reason you're opposed to background checks has absolutely nothing to do with the Second Amendment. It's about making it as easy as possible for everyone to own a gun. More guns means more profits for the gun companies, and that's who you really represent.
In 2011, Ruger's stock was trading at $21 a share, now it's at $51. Smith & Wesson's stock was three bucks a share, today it's almost nine. I remember after the 2010 elections when it looked like the Obama administration was going to be toast, gun dealers like myself couldn't give away the inventory. Now we can't keep anything on the shelves. You keep referring to the president as an enemy of the gun industry. The truth is that Barack Obama is the best salesman the industry ever had.
Ending sentences that say it all:
For all your talk about defending liberty Wayne, I'll give you something more important to defend: the young children whose lives always seem to take a back seat to how many guns you can get Americans to buy. I'm talking about children at Sandy Hook, a 4-year-old in New York, a 2-year-old in Kentucky. There's something immoral about denying any connection between the deaths of children and the explosion in gun sales that you claim show how much we love our freedom. I'd rather have those kids alive, even if it costs me more than a few bucks in gun sales. MORE HERE: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/mike-weisser/open-letter-to-wayne-lapi_b_3219807.html

The National Rifle Association kicked off its annual convention Friday with a warning to its members they are engaged in a "culture war" that stretches beyond gun rights, further ramping up emotions surrounding the gun control debate.
NRA First Vice President James Porter, a Birmingham, Ala., attorney who will assume the organization's presidency Monday, issued a full-throated challenge to President Barack Obama in the wake of a major victory regarding gun control and called on members to dig in for a long fight that will stretch into the 2014 elections.
More than 70,000 NRA members are expected to attend the three-day convention amid the backdrop of the national debate over gun control and the defeat of a U.S. Senate bill introduced after December's mass shooting at a Newtown, Conn., elementary school. A small gathering of gun control supporters were outside of the convention in Houston.

Makes me wonder if Lapierre and the NRA are sprinkling NUMB-NUT DUST over our legislators, WTF else could it be that immobilizes them, rendering them helpless against a well known, well documented and well recognized danger in our society? The objection to gun registration is borne out of some paranoid notion that the government has a plan to confiscate weapons. Nevermind that if the government decides to turn on its citizens, a rag-tag assemblage of neighbors with AR 15’s are no match for the most powerful military on earth. Why register anything? Why do we have to register to drive or vote or go to school? Maybe the Republicans just want to know where all the Democrats are so they can kill them. Maybe the Democrats will intern all the Republicans. And why do a census? Maybe the government just wants to know how many citizens they have to prepare for. But did you ever really think about that social security number...everyone has one. What is that really about? It’s sick!

When I heard what Ted Nugent called the victims of gun violence who had been invited as guests to the SOUA on Tuesday February 12th, I thought, What A Piece of Shit, this man is. There seems to be no compassion, no empathy and no common sense coming from the NRA these days. NONE! I have heard that many members belonging to this club of crackers are claiming they would like to see some changes made to avert the murderous rampages of violent gun owners in order to bring sanity back and protect our children and law abiding citizens. But if these people really do believe there needs to be some changes made, why do they remain members? Even after the likes of Ted Nugent’s insane comment, calling the victims of gun violence, PROPS FOR THE WHITEHOUSE and especially their whacked out leader LaPierre’s latest manifesto, preaching violence: “NRA's Wayne LaPierre: “Be afraid, be very afraid” http://dailycaller.com/2013/02/13/stand-and-fight/#ixzz2KtMpqkA0 was released, I say to them:
By retaining membership with LaPierre’s NRA, you are telling the world you care nothing about keeping our children and our nation safe! Perhaps, you are just mouthing concern about gun violence but in actuality you agree with the Nut-Balls that have become the face of this nefarious club, you still pay dues to! NRA's Wayne LaPierre: Be afraid, be very afraid
By Steve Benen
Thu Feb 14, 2013
Way back in 1993, there was an episode of "The Simpsons," in which Grandpa Simpson wrote a letter to the White House. Apropos of nothing, ol' Abe wanted the president to eliminate three states from the union because there are "too many states nowadays."
Grandpa added in his letter, "I am not a crackpot."
I thought of this while reading the latest missive from the National Rifle Association's Wayne LaPierre, who had a lengthy opinion piece in the Daily Caller yesterday, explaining why Americans should be terrified enough to want to buy lots and lots of firearms.
During the second Obama term, however, additional threats are growing. Latin American drug gangs have invaded every city of significant size in the United States. Phoenix is already one of the kidnapping capitals of the world, and though the states on the U.S./Mexico border may be the first places in the nation to suffer from cartel violence, by no means are they the last.
The president flagrantly defies the 2006 federal law ordering the construction of a secure border fence along the entire Mexican border. So the border today remains porous not only to people seeking jobs in the U.S., but to criminals whose jobs are murder, rape, robbery and kidnapping. Ominously, the border also remains open to agents of al Qaeda and other terrorist organizations.
Wait, it gets worse. LaPierre also envisions mass looting, debt riots, and the collapse of law-enforcement agencies. It's the kind of news you don't hear from President Obama -- who, of course, wants to disarm you for his own nefarious purposes -- and his "'mainstream' media enablers."
And then there's LaPierre's kicker: "These are perils we are sure to face -- not just maybe. It's not paranoia to buy a gun."
"Paranoia"? Who said anything about "paranoia"? This is simply a piece from a powerful right-wing lobbyist warning of Latin-American gangs, terrorists, and rioters, each of which are coming to attack you -- "not just maybe." Why would anyone think this sounds like "paranoia"?
Perhaps for the same reason Abe Simpson understood he might sound like a "crackpot"?

US gun industry targets kids to secure future
Sun Jan 27, 2013 5:40PM GMT
US war machinery killing children
The US firearms industry has invested millions of dollars into a campaign to get American children interested in guns and shooting.
An article published on Sunday in New York Times announced the industry’s strategies to promote a next generation of gun users. These strategies included backing youth groups with firearms, ammunition and money; weakening state restrictions on hunting by young children; sponsoring semiautomatic-handgun competitions for youths; and developing a video game that promotes target-shooting and advertises brand-name weapons.
The industry’s 2012 report, which was based on an extensive social research, also focused on children aged eight to 17 and suggested that “peer ambassadors” should help introduce cautious youths to guns slowly, by the means of paintball, archery or other activities that are less frightening.
"The point should be to get newcomers started shooting something, with the natural next step being a move toward actual firearms," said the report. MORE HERE: http://www.presstv.ir/detail/2013/01/27/285870/us-gun-industry-targets-kids/

Japan Is Enlightened, Why Isn't The USA?
Why can't the GUN enthusiasts who belong to the NRA (and the politicians who support them) realize that treating the ownership of firearms as a right has dire consequences? The people in the right-wing will argue with anyone until they are BLUE IN THE FACE that Healthcare is not a right... But when it comes to weapons they cry out IT’S OUR RIGHT TO OWN A GUN! Convoluted? Everything about this type of mindset is BIZARRE and puzzling to anyone with common sense. When not even the mass killing of 20 kindergarteners can soften such an obstinate, unyielding and OUT OF WHACK vision of reality, WHAT IN THE WORLD CAN? thinkingblue
EXCERPT: JAPAN — THE NANNY STATE
Gunfire rings through the hills at a shooting range at the foot of Mount Fuji. There are few other places in Japan where you'll hear it.
In this country, guns are few and far between. And so is gun violence. Guns were used in only seven murders in Japan — a nation of about 130 million — in all of 2011, the most recent year for official statistics. According to police, more people — nine — were murdered with scissors.
Though its gun ownership rates are tiny compared to the United States, Japan has more than 120,000 registered gun owners and more than 400,000 registered firearms. So why is there so little gun violence?
"We have a very different way of looking at guns in Japan than people in the United States," said Tsutomu Uchida, who runs the Kanagawa Ohi Shooting Range, an Olympic-style training center for rifle enthusiasts. "In the U.S., people believe they have A RIGHT TO OWN A GUN. In Japan, we don't have that right. So our point of departure is completely different."
Treating gun ownership as a privilege and not a right leads to some important policy differences.
First, anyone who wants to get a gun must demonstrate a valid reason why they should be allowed to do so. Under longstanding Japanese policy, there is no good reason why any civilian should have a handgun, so — aside from a few dozen accomplished competitive shooters — they are completely banned.
Virtually all handgun-related crime is attributable to gangsters, who obtain them on the black market. But such crime is extremely rare and when it does occur, police crack down hard on whatever gang is involved, so even gangsters see it as a last-ditch option.
Rifle ownership is allowed for the general public, but tightly controlled.

My response to this posting: USA gun ownership is a right, BUT...
It’s time to take a good hard look at this “right” and not just accept it as a 2nd amendment legality that is presumed, carved in stone and unchangeable because although I can agree that owning a gun may be a right but the owning of semi-automatics with clips holding 10 to 100 bullets should not be or should never be construed as a right. Nothing should (especially in the realm of danger) be evaluated in Black and White perspectives; we human beings (and nature itself) are too complicated for that. The problem is, how can legislators spell it out to those who own (or wish to own) arsenals of weapons, that owning or buying artillery should have limitations, in spite of how they interpret the US constitution? It should be common sense; if we won’t allow other countries to arm themselves to the teeth with nuclear bombs (remember the Bush/Cheney administration was able to convince the majority of our lawmakers to send our youth to war over a presumed idea that Iraq had “Weapons of Mass Destruction” therefore posed a threat to the world.) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wmc60JmaLbE
Why should it be so difficult to convince the NRA and its members who cry out IT’S OUR CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHT to own whatever weapons that are available for sale WITHOUT modification or restrictions. I don’t know about anyone else, but this confuses the hell out of me. I guess possessing too much common sense can be a curse in a culture where foolishness seems to rule. thinkingblueJapan Is Enlightened, Why Isn't The USA?

Just when we all thought the NRA could not get any battier, they come out with an absurd, over-the-top ad condemning President Obama's children for having armed guard protection.
(What in the world are they trying to say, President Obama and his family need protection more than any other President due to the advent of the prejudiced Tea Party that has more Bigots than Carter Has Liver Pills --You would have had to be brought up in the 50's to know that phrase)
Also, we now have a new group rising out of the Toxin and stirring up The Human Rotten called the Sandy Hook Truther movement It doesn't get any worse than this folks.
What is wrong with the American people anyway? It's perplexing that so many of our citizens do not want to see, think or hear candor, preferring Lies, Distortions and Conspiracy Theories instead of the NAKED TRUTH. I wish with all my heart that the massacre of 20 beautiful children at Sandy Hook did not occur but it did, just ask all those bereaved who lost their babies, I know they must wake up each morning and scream out "WHY?”… I wish there was a plausible explanation for such insanity but calling this heartsick tragedy a hoax is beyond anything a normal thinking human being could possibly endure. ALBANY, N.Y. -- For weeks, legislative leaders and Governor Andrew Cuomo have been negotiating a package of gun control measures. And exactly 30 days after the Newtown school shooting, the governor sent lawmakers a 78 page bill.
"This is a scourge on society, people have had to live through these tragedies, tragedy after tragedy and people have to ask themselves at what point so you get it? At what point so you say enough?" Governor Cuomo asked.
The bill bans assault weapons, including those manufactures before 1994. That's when New York State last banned assault weapons and guns prior to that date were grandfathered in.
"I think the message out there is clear after Newtown to get us down this road as quickly as possible to basically eradicate assault weapons from our streets in New York as quickly as possible," said Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver.
The legislation will limit magazines or clips to seven rounds. There are also several provisions in the bill requested by republicans.
Senator Tom Libous said, "Listen, there have been a number of issues that were discussed over the last 30 days on this bill. We had been fighting for things we believe in and they were tougher penalties for people who commit a crime with a gun. Tougher penalties for people with mental illness."
The bill expands Kendra's Law ,which gives judges discretion over treatment for mental illness, including involuntary commitment.
Governor Cuomo says Newtown and an incident in Western New York where firefighters were shot and killed prompted him to act quickly.
"I think after what happened in Connecticut and what happened at home here in Webster, this issue jumped to the forefront. I think the people of the state said they want something done and they want so something done right away," Cuomo said.
This was the first action on any piece of legislation by the new legislature. A signature piece of Governor Cuomo's State of the State Address last week, this now allows Cuomo to focus on his other priorities for the session.

The mentally challenged weapon enthusiasts, among us, are ablaze with paranoia pertaining to delusions that their guns will be taken away. Of course IT'S NOT TRUE, yet they are all over the media threatening that if the only tool that makes them feel important and all powerful (their weaponry) is taken from their pathetic, cold hands; they will start to SHOOT PEOPLE. These Fear Monger types are like a cancer upon society and they wish to spread their malignancy far and wide across this country of ours. They HATE (or they pretend to hate) and they have something to sell that will make them in their misconceptions, either famous or rich or both (unfortunately, it sometimes works, as in the case of Alex Jones). Their hope is to get others to HATE because it can blind the weak-minded enough to buy their nonsense and join them in kind of a, blaze of glory, fallacy. This video shows four examples of some of the worst of the worst whose desire is to have their egos massaged and they accomplish this, by using FEAR! thinkingblue

Down the Rabbit Hole With Fox News’ Latest Obama Gun Conspiracy By: Sarah Jones
Wondering why you can’t go anywhere without bumping into a ranting, screaming crazy person nattering on about Obama taking their freedom away? It’s Fox acid.
Come down the rabbit hole with a recent Fox News article titled, “UN gun control treaty will reveal gun laws Obama really supports” to break down the anatomy of the Fox News Obama’s coming for our guns lie. Turns out, the very narrow ledge of “reality” they preach over is buttressed on nada but “feelings” that lead to vague conspiracy theories.
John Lott starts off badly with these faulty assertions:
"The Obama administration is undoubtedly the most hostile administration to gun ownership in US history, with Obama having personally supported bans of handguns and semi-automatic weapons before becoming president. And remember the recent scandal where the Obama administration was caught allowing guns go to Mexican drug gangs, hoping it would help push for gun control laws."
Okay, so wow. If you believed all of that, you’d be paranoid too.
Trouble is, this is a lie upon a lie upon a lie. The first link “proving” Obama is the most hostile administration on gun ownership goes to a John Lott blog post titled, “President Obama’s Anti-Gun Agenda Shows No Sign of Stopping.” Only Lott shows no signs of Obama’s actual policy-based anti-gun agenda. He can’t show policy because it’s not true. The mentally challenged weapon enthusiasts, among us, are ablaze with paranoia... more

Once Upon A Time, on July 27, 1981, a little boy went shopping with his mother at the Sears store in the Hollywood Florida Mall and never came home.
A beginning of a story that could have been my story; you see, I shopped at the Sears store several times a week. I lived in the neighborhood, as did Revé, John and Adam Walsh; my son was also in the same class as Adam at the St. Mark's Lutheran school. The news of Adam’s kidnapping and murder hit me very hard. I would look at my son and feel so grateful that this, the most horrific, devastating fate that a parent could ever endure, did not happen to me. That feeling didn’t make me feel lucky or special; it just made me realize that in this life, with a blink of an eye, you can be hit with a devastating blow that will alter the path of your short existence for the remainder of your days on this Earth.
After the abhorrent and gruesome incident that took place on December 14th 2012 at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown Connecticut, my thoughts turned back to the time when Adam, a little boy, who because he became separated from his mother for a few short moments, was projected into defenselessness in a world full of demons and monsters. As with the children of Newtown but instead of a separation from safety to horror they were already subjected to terror just by living in a Nation who allowed weapons of war to be bought and sold by its citizens like so many pieces of candy.
I have been blogging on these dangerous laws that our lawmakers pass with hardly a thought, for some time now. A few examples below:

The only reward I get in trying to spread the word-- that semi-automatic weapons or concealed weapons or guns in general that can be waved around with little or no regulation, GUNS, WEAPONS that can cause devastating misery through massacres in which many people can be murdered at once within minutes-- is that it allowed me to voice my anger but nothing else, it's like spitting in the wind.
Deaf Ears, so the saying goes, is what all the opinions against gun violence, fell upon. A gnawing gut question keeps circling my brain… “WHY?” A WHY, that no one seems to want to answer, not truthfully anyway.
In the case of Adam Walsh, his dad John Walsh did not allow the “WHY?” to linger on, he was angry that there were no mechanisms or databases in place for the immediate search and rescue of kidnapped and exploited children, he set out to change it.
After hearing the convoluted thoughts of Wayne LaPierre (CEO of NRA) on TV the other day, I believe that he and the many others who share such a mindset are the reason for the gun violence in our country. He and his fellow 5th column co-conspirators (I label them this, not because they deliberately want to destroy Democracy but because they don’t care if it is destroyed, money is the bottom-line) are responsible for the deaths (indirectly or maybe not so indirectly) of so many 'innocents' (all of us who want only to live in peace). Please watch the video '26 Bells' from NBC, without a doubt the saddest reflection of how our American Leaders have turned their backs on our precious children.
Terrorism is well-established here in America, not by suicide bombers but by maniacs with blood on their minds, who can get ahold of a semi-automatic weapon with no effort WHATSOEVER and that is frightening. thinkingblueOnce Upon A Time, on July 27, 1981, a little boy went shopping with his mother at the... more
