Mind your electronic footprint

We've all heard about the carbon footprint, and know that the smaller it is, the better. But now young people are being warned to mind our electronic footprint: the information we make available on our social networking profiles. The recent survey found 70% of young adults not wanting their colleges or employers to do a web search on them before they removed some information from their profiles...and 95% were concerned about their information being passed on to advertisers. Hello? Does anybody read the options you have to check when adding another application to your Facebook? The FIRST one is "Know who i am and access my information." Red flag? I think so. I think it's so important that in the excitement of building your friend block and throwing sheep, we can't lose sight of the fact that the internet is only as private as you make it... if you don't want something to get out, you better keep it offline.

Employers don't seem to understand the difference between our private social world and our professional social world.

A warning to all those who share just a little too much of their personal details online - criminals use the web too!
