Yes I do believe firefox gets a lot of it's revenue through Google. This is not ideal obviously, but compared to IE it is best - it is open-source and owned by a non-profit foundation, and allows users to build on it.
I really wish the wiki-search project were non-profit, but even having an open-source for-profit search competitor to the others would be good - especially considering the project does have a bit of a public service orientation.
It's hard to find a perfect alternative to the big corporations but we do have at least some lesser evil options. If FireFox and Wikia were the worst applications on the web we'd be much better off.

This is a great animation about and important topic but I have a couple questions about the Freedom Trons.
Doesn't Firefox get all it's revenue via that little Goozle search bar in the upper right hand corner?
What about Jimmy's for profit Wikia Project?

I love the way you did that. I hope it gets a high profile.
Many people do not realize what is happening. They are too busy working and trying to pay bills and then the corporations regulate and take control and before you know it, someone will own the web and we will have to pay and we won't be free to express our feelings and thoughts about, "HOW THIS HAPPENED" They are having iptv summits right now trying to regulate what is now free. People need a wake up call. The rich get richer and stay in control if we don't act! - 4 years ago

What a great pod! If this leaves you wanting to find out more check out this little vid, all about who controls the internet - in a similar vein, but more in-depth and less cute. Worth a watch!
