Facebook flop: Is this the beginning of the end for social networking?

I was particularly interested in this article because when 'Facebook' first burst onto the social networking scene my friends and I were completely addicted to it. But recently it seems that its appeal is begining to wane. It has become cluttered with too many applications. And the fact that it now features ads makes it feel like it's sold out to the corporate world. At its inception it felt rebellious, new and exciting but now it just feels like it's losing its lustre.

    • I think it's interesting that niche web sites are gathering popularity, and it makes perfect sense. I'd defiantly rather join a place were everyone has a specific interest than a place like myspace were I'd have to search and filter people out.
Current.com is the closest social networking site I'm a part of.

    • facebook is just getting started and has a LOOOONG time to go before it disappears.

if facebook is dying then myspace is already dead on or life support.

just a month ago, myspace announced that it was completely following in facebook's steps, by making third party applications.

social networking is just starting to ramp up.

i think that NING is what's going to be the next big thing in social networking.

it already pretty big, but anyone can make their own social network with ning.
