Microsoft: "No blu-ray for Xbox"

Despite previous rumours that Microsoft were keen to purchase the license to equip the Xbox360 with a blu-ray player, a Microsoft executive has squashed the rumours saying that:

"Xbox is not currently in talks with Sony or the Blu-ray Association to integrate Blu-ray into the Xbox experience.”

Sony allegedly reported against these claims earlier in the week when Sony CEO, Stan Glasgow announced that Microsoft and Sony were 'in talks' about getting a Blu-ray drive for its Xbox 360 console.

I wonder if Sony has realised that the PS3 will now have a monopoly on the console market, the Wii and Xbox 360 don't have blu-ray capabilities and according to the latest reports don't look set to get them in the near future, meaning Sony's initial slow sales might see a turnaround.

Do you think Sony will let their main rivals snap up some blu-ray loving?

    • I think that in the longer longer run, xbox might be in a better position than sony. Much like the gamecube games, and similar to N64 games, HD-DVD games will soon be difficult to pirate.

Since blu-ray seems to be the way forward, the technology around it will grow allowing people to cheaply produce copies once the PS3 is "chipped".

HD-DVD's won't be so easy to produce, so the games manufacturers might feel safer releasing their top games on the 360 instead of PS3.

      All predictions of course....
