Work At Jelly

msemel
Jelly is Office 2.0. This bi-monthly event attracts young freelancers and web entrepreneurs, who might otherwise work from home, and creates an open, idea driven workspace, which can supplement the social interaction many miss out on working from home. In this pod we will meet a Jelly host that opens their living room for to Jelly and hear from the founder, Amit Gupta via iChat video, to learn more about how young people are working together in creative ways and Jelly is expanding.

    • I work from home out of St. Louis, MO near Chesterfield. The Event Audition was the moment in time that I made the decision to be a freelancer. Plenty of people showed up for the audition and from it I learned that I need to be in control of my desire to get into show business -- not someone else.

    • My wife and I also work from home although we have an office, in San Rafael, we go to, mostly me. Still, after years of working from home and a small office we both felt we are missing few things, such as more interaction with others like us, the need to brainstorm with others every now and then, and the need to leave the house after long day/s of working from home (sometimes the walls are just closing on you). That's why we came with this idea, apparently joining a trend and opened www.bzhive.com in Marin County.
After talking to others, mostly ones that we see working at coffee-shops, we realized it makes perfect sense.

    • Coworking is a step beyond Jelly. It's working remotely with other people everyday.

This wiki provides info on Coworking around the world.

    • Totally cool pod. Milles mercis.

I've been dreaming of a co-working gathering place and yearning for one here in Santa Fe, New Mexico.

Who's in area interested in TouchArt Co-working gathering space?

    • This is probably the coolest, most interesting thing I've seen on Current in a really long time. Really sweet way to work and given my experience in the workplace, I would love to try it out

    • What an interesting concept! The pod does well in explaining what Jelly is and where it came from, but I think it could have benefited from making the conflict a little more explicit. I understand how the social aspect is beneficial in that it harbors collaboration, but if I had heard more specific issues each worker had from working at home it would have made me understand the motivation behind attending a Jelly session. For example, what is it about their work-at-home jobs that collaboration makes easier? I heard one guy talk about how work that takes weeks was reduced to hours with Jelly, but how? More detailed testimonials might have made the increasingly popular concept of Jelly make a little more sense to me, but I also understand the limited time factor of pods. That aside, though, I like how you explored the issue, and Tony does an excellent job at explaining Jelly and is a great on-camera presence. Cool stuff!
