The point is it is illegal. And we are not just talking about a little bit illegal. The BT covert trials were in breach of the following laws in the UK: Data Protection Act 1998, Privacy and Electronic Communications (EC Directive) Regulations 2003, Human Rights Act 1998, European Convention on Human Rights 1950 (Article 8), Computer Misuse Act 1990, Regulation of Investigatory Powers Act 2000, Fraud Act 2006, Torts (Interference with Goods) Act 1977, Copyright Designs and Patents Act 1988, And ICO seem to think this is ok. They have stated that the covert trials were indeed in breach of regulation 6 (and possibly regulation 7) of the Privacy and Electronic Communications (EC Directive) Regulations 2003 but that they are not going to do anything about it. How do you think you would be treated as a private citizen if you broke the law? Do you think the police would just say "Oh he only violated the rights of 138 000 people, this is nothing to worry about, we will let him go?" NO you would get banged up. ICO have effectively said it is ok for companies to break the law. If you want to know more about the covert trials read my dissertation here: http://www.paladine.org.uk/phorm_paper.pdf

the thing is though Huntre, they are directly profiting from Wiretapping YOUR datastream, without your explicit and informed Consent.
they want the datastream that is YOUR property, the very same datastream pipe YOUR paying your ISP for, and they are NOT giving YOU a single penny for the use of that valuble datastream.
a clear cut commercial piracy for profit using your auto copyrighted data, and the auto copyrighted data of any and all webpages you visit including password protected http webpages to create an Unlawful derivative work for profit.
are you happy to be ripped off like that by your payed for ISP when theres money to be made from your datastream content and/or that of your websites pages content, without as much as a sniff of that cash coming to your pocket?
do nothing and you help them in their profits, do something (see links and act)and you help yourself.

I just assumed that I was being watched online already.
Not that I'm worthy of it, mind you. Another resource wasted. - 3 years ago
